I think she is every bit as lovely here as she was in the 60s... It's almost as though this song has matured with her, and though the story is the same, there is more urgency in the telling.
I first heard this song at a pep rally in high school. Anne Meeker sang it. Let me tell you, if Anne Meeker was the gateway to Lesley Gore, you'd never forget the song.
pvandck Yes... the "passive" smokers Cancer are the most common, at least in France... but it must be the same effects in addition to round, unfortunately...
Well, I love Leslie Gore, but watching on the Greyhound Bus or watching her sing this best of ever treat! I wish I could have been down under to watch this concert in real time!
She was IT when I was in College! Great voice! Great EYES! Saw her in Des Moines, IA during a 60's reunion of lots of singers. She stood out over all of them! RIP Leslie.... I also went into cancer 4 years ago and am still in remission... Just lucky. You'll be singing in the Choir of angels.
When I met her, I was struck by her beautiful and unusual eyes...........they were a very pale greenish gold with a black ring around the outside of her iris.........gorgeous!
It’s so incredible to see her sing this song with her matured voice and still be as amazing as when she originally recorded it as a young girl she was such an icon, forever missed, I’m glad we’re honouring her now she’s always been outstanding!!
We have this habit, promoted mostly through movies, of seeing the decades as separate time periods that stand on their own as if they have no connection. Like, Lesley in the cover image of Its My Pary from 1964 looks very 60s styled and here she is rocking the classic 1980s frizzy hair.. my point is, must have been fun to go through each decade like that, something only a 21 yearly old like myself can only dream about.
@@rohithpadikkal7082 I’m not jack but for me I would say the 80’s, this is because my favorite musical is Heathers lol Then maybe the Victorian era then the 50’s or 20’s
Her signature song indeed....can you imagine how many times over the many years she toured, that she sang it...I imagine at times she got a bit tired of it, but then again she knew it was responsible for launching her into stardom, and had to have known how her long time fans looked forward to hearing her sing it at every concert, trying to retain a small piece of their youth....
I was at that concert! The line-up was HUGE! Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everlys, Chuck Berry, Mary Wilson,,maybe others I don't recall. Lesly Gore just shone! She was superb! She really connected with the audience whereas most of the others didn't even bother to try. Thanks for posting this! Great times back then.
Such a young talent I am watching, sing it loud and out loud Leslie! Well this is 35 years ago, however Leslie was ahead of her time back in the day! Leslie Gore was and still is my friend, even though we never met!!!
My 1962 movie classics as I remember! Well, I will tell you that this is my favorite Leslie Gore Performance since 1962! Leslie is, was the most powerful singer back in the day, that maybe people did not appreciate! Well back in the Beach Movies period, someone had Leslie sing her song, Sunshine Lollypops and Rainbows! And I remember Dobie Gillis was in that Bus!
it's about to be January, 2018 and I can still remember her song, Cry if I want to!! She was a beautiful lady!♡♡ (young and older) a legend, will song on, in the heavens♡♡
A voice that got better with each passing year. Saw you 6 months ago at the Suncoast Las Vegas. Thank You for all the memories the greatest era of rock and roll had to offer. Your were ~ and always will be the queen of that time
I've only discovered her music the past few years and every time I hear her music I wish I could have been around to see her preform. She is my favorite singer of all time.
Boy is this passing going to hit all baby-boomers hard...It's My Party is wired into the brains of everybody over about 55 yrs...This version was some 25 yrs after Leslie first hit the charts at #1..and she still had it in spades...RIP dear Leslie, you're going to be remembered by millions of fans over the next several days for sure!
No kidding; so many many memories of her music on the radio- just loved her distinctive voice and I was so young but I could still be amused at the crushes the boys had staring at pictures of her. She had incredibly mesmerizing eyes.
One of the first songs I remember hearing. My oldest brother had a dance album, and th is was the featured song. From 1963, so I would have been six or seven.
Ohhhhh my goodness, I've just seen comments on Lesley's passing this year.... her memory lives on R.I.P. I often sing this song, thank you for the songs to live on forever 💛
It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to Cry if I want to Cry if I want to You would cry too, if it happened to you Nobody knows where my Johnny has gone But Judy left the same time Why was he holding her hand When he's supposed to be mine? It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to Cry if I want to Cry if I want to You would cry too, if it happened to you Play all my records, keep dancing all night But leave me alone for awhile 'Til Johnny's dancing with me I've got no reason to smile It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to Cry if I want to Cry if I want to You would cry too, if it happened to you Judy and Johnny just walked through the door (walked through the door) Like a queen with her king Oh, what a birthday surprise Judy's wearing his ring It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to Cry if I want to Cry if I want to You would cry too, if it happened to you Oh, it's my party, and I'll cry if I want to Cry if I want to Cry if I want to You would cry too, if it happened to you It's my party, and I'll cry if I want to
And now again I feel as If I were born in the wrong time... I mean this gig war 12 years before I was born. I wish I could have seen her live and grow up with this kind of music.
G'day Lesly from Melbourne Australia 2023, I thank you for your wonderful contributions of music to us ,your music lovers . I'm so greatful to you sharing your music, 1963 is very special to you as to me, you produced your first hit song, my mother produced me as her eighth.
I have recently discovered her songs on youtube. My question is : Was Lesley a trained singer? Or was she just born that good?. Quincy jones found her when she was a school girl and what an amazing find!. She was on Batman episodes too. My Father grew up with the Original Batman actor in a small town , so batman has a special place in my heart. RH DSD
She already had singing lessons before she started working with Quincy Jones. Yeah....she's great! I was amazed at the power and maturity of her voice as a teenager. She excels at expression through gestures and facial expressions......beautiful smile that's infectious She comes across very confident and highly experienced. I was blown away when watching a youtube clip of her 1964 T.A.M.I vocal performances.
These forgotten one-hit wonders that go off touring for the rest of their lives singing the same timeless songs as they age fascinate me - there's a story there
