I have painted many boats, some Metalflake and Kandy too. But I certainly do not use automotive base/clear due to it being fragile which is unacceptable in marine use. I only use polyurethane (which is multitudes more durable than anything automotive)from the base up, but it does make it much more labour intensive due to sand outs between different colours and custom effects.
Hi JF, Excellent paint job. I myself would've asked you to do a sunburst finish on my boat (sunburst finish like a Gibson or a Fender guitar). You're one of the few guys that has the talent to make it happen. Take care. Roland P.S. Do you have a central vacuum for your paint booth ? I'm not selling anything. I'm really impressed with the finish of the clear.
I had a nice Pantera with a 396 back in the late 90s and then bought a real nice Cougar pi kle fork with a 30 over 454, full over transom headers, go- no go transmission and all thr goodies from Califirnia Marine in the early 2000s. Lots of fun but the Oantera flat bottom was like driving a piece of Plywood with a 396 strapped to it. Scary wide open. The Cougar was on rails.
