In floor heat is the best type of heat to have. If it’s in a van or house nothing beats it. Installed them in homes, the heat just flows from your feet to your head.

I totally agree. I’m so excited to see how it feels on my feet next winter!

Ive been in the HVAC industry for a while. This is fascinating to me.

Yea? How does this compare to what you would have expected? The problems in a van are definitely different than a home but I’d bet there’s some crossover!

@thebatlwgn the concepts transfer over. Outside of the air transfer coil a lot of the equipment is unique.

Oh lawd. Yes that would've terrified me as well. Much worse than just cutting some holes in my new carpet. I see what you mean. Oh my.

Radiant heat is fantastic but boiler can be a nightmare long term. I definitely suggest a backup heat source!!

Thanks for the heads up. Have you messed with these in a vehicle or are you speaking from residential perspective?

@@thebatlwgn I'm in HVAC for homes so I've never done anything with a heating system in a vehicle or van. It is an awesome way to heat a space! I just worry about boiler components breaking.

Can you tie this into the engine coolant for heating as well?
@thebatlwgn
@thebatlwgn 3 месяца назад
In theory, thats possible. In practice, this particular system is not designed for that. I also think using the engine for heating is a half assed solution. Having the system independent of the engine is a superior solution and has so much less risk to damaging the engine.

How much weight is added by the floor heating and is the heater system not vulnerable out there if you ever go out on rocky dirt with it
@thebatlwgn
@thebatlwgn 5 месяцев назад
It’s roughly 150lbs total and it’s as vulnerable as everything else under the van. We shall see I guess! Haha

If there ever is a leak, how easy is it to get to the lines in the floor?
@thebatlwgn
@thebatlwgn 5 месяцев назад
In theory, there won’t be a leak. It’s not going to be super easy to get into that flooring. We pressure tested the lines overnight and they were good to go but that didnt make it into the video.
@lilricky2515
@lilricky2515 5 месяцев назад
@@thebatlwgn In theory, famous last words... 😁 But seriously, yes, eventually that line will degrade and fail, it just depends on how many cycles it is put through and the pressure it is subjected to. The smarter route would be to use a more jacketed tubing, like is used in residental installations. With only one layer from failure, you're sorta asking for trouble.
@thebatlwgn

@thebatlwgn

The heater for the entire system uses diesel diesel. The electric draw on the pumps is minimal.

Was surprised that they left the channels open below the subfloor. No insulation material in those channels at all. Every R counts in a van build.

This is better built than most home plumbing and inside the floor there are no joints to leak. 🤷‍♂️
