Extremely underrated rivalry. People often forget it in the conversation of the best rivalries in the league.

As an American, this is definitely the best MLS rivalry. No question. It’s centuries of history and culture that no other rivalry has. 2016 was really the pinnacle of it all.

The "401 Derby" or "Canadian Classique" - whatever you call it, its magic. And its made better by the fact that it unfolds both in League play and through the Canadian Championship. There was even a " proxy battle" going on last night in the York 9- Montreal game. For me these games are always a highlight of the season, both home and away.

This is by far the best derby/rivalry in the MLS. It’s fueled on the injustice the anglophone majority of Canada brought upon Québec for centuries, and that injustice still exists to an extent today from some anglophones, mainly west of Québec. This rivalry is by far the most meaningful, well rewarded derby in the MLS by far. The rest are just pettiness between either two new and old clubs from the same area, or two clubs relatively close to each other that only occurs because why not hate a team near you for no reason based on no prior incidents

I’m a northern NY’er who lives near both the Ontario and Québec borders but my love goes way back with the Montréal Expos. I’m always going to support Montréal teams. I love visiting Montréal and believe it’s the greatest city in the world. I just wish I knew French well enough so I could work and live there. I think the language laws are too uptight for businesses and work, otherwise I could see Montréal being the financial capital of Canada.

I am a Seattle fan and I went to a game against Portland. It was complete madness, there were fights in the street after the game (which I don't think belongs in football). I will always remember just the march to the match and the police closed down the streets and we all had our scarves up and were chanting like crazy people. I need to go back to Seattle because damn I love this sport. Seattle won btw, goddamn I hate Portland. I remember I was at work when they were playing Atlanta FC for the title and cheering when Atlanta won and people were asking me 'Are you from Atlanta?' "No I just hate Portland." Mad respect though for giving me one of my favorite football experiences in Seattle in the pouring down rain. Rivalry days are the worst and best thing ever.

As a Canadian it's definitely a different feeling when it's only our anthem. There is history in this rivalry, lots of bad blood and literal blood across centuries. That being said at the end of the day we are brought together as Canadians since nothing can unite the anglophones and francophones like showing the Americans.
