This actually isn’t a new release. This was from their 2013 10th Anniversary Retrospect show. There is a new live version of it that was recently released, live at AFAS in 2023. I recommend viewing that as well just to see how far Epica have come in terms of their stage show. Retrospect was a fantastic show, especially with the live orchestra and choir, but the visuals on the AFAS performance are jaw dropping. I do like the AFAS performance but I still think this is the best version. The sonic soundscape you get with a live orchestra and choir just can't be topped IMO.
Hi Mike & Ginger! Nice to see you back 🙂 This song has one of the most spectacular key changes in music history! At the end, when Simone switches to her more operatic register, that's pure eargasm! If you reacted to the latest performance from 2023, you'd have seen huge screens behind them, where rays of light start shooting up right after the key change, which makes it even more epic. "Unleashed" is not a new song, it's from 2009 (their 4th album) but there are at least 3 amazing live performances of it. The one you just reacted to is from 2013, their 10th anniversary concert. Simone was 3 moths pregnant, you can see her little baby bump. Watchtheskies probably meant the newest 2023 performance from AFAS Live. It doesn't have a live orchestra but it's just as amazing as this one. If you're not going to react to it, at least watch it off camera. Promise? 😄 It's super epic and Simone's crystal clear soprano is beyond beautiful. It also allows you to compare the band after 10 years (2013 vs 2023).

I hope you're staying cool! This is one of my favorites. I particularly love this version with the full orchestra and choir. The newer version closely matches it. I went back to doublecheck and you haven't done one of their most spectacular performances... Kingdom of Heaven Part 3 from the Omga Alive show. This was a virtual show during the pandemic and the song is wonderful. Another recent collab they did was a song called Sirens - of Blood and Water, feat. Charlotte Wessels and Myrkur. 3 beautiful voices guaranteed to lure you to your deaths. p.s., it's been so much fun watching the two of you over the years. Great reaction! This performance is from their 10th anniversary concert Retrospect back in 2013, with a live orchestra and choir. Same concert that you reacted to Sancta Terra with Floor as a guest a couple of years back. This is my favorite song to introduce people to Epica, especially if they are not metalheads. There is a newer official live version from their most recent tour in Amsterdam that is great as well but this is by far my favorite version. The live orchestra and choir add so much. Other songs from this concert you should react to include Chasing the Dragon and Design Your Universe. If only for yourself you should also checkout the official music video for this song. The video story is fun and kind of creepy in a good way.
Heya Mike and Ginger!! Epical....what else can one say? They keep getting better over time on all fronts for sure. Smoon is at her prime now (this was 10 years ago), and her vocals are just as pure, but she is more powerful now as well. The performance at AFAS recently (their largest audience to date by the way with them as headliner), is just as others have shared, just amazing. Very high recording quality as well. Epica sets the bar for symphonic METAL done right! Great reaction you two!
