Received my first real gaming pc back in 2017 free from a friend at work. It had the same FX 8320 cpu paired with an HD 7970 gpu. He gave it to me because after booting it wouldn't stay on for more than 5 seconds. Little did he know that another coworker had given me half a system the week before with a similar FX processor. Swapped the broken closed loop water cooler (had a bubble) with the other working heatsink, and voila! Ended up giving the half system back to my other co-worker and gaming on that rig for over a year before using it as seed money to build my first modern gaming rig. Great system for its age!
Heartwarming. I love how PC parts, usually just represented by a string of letters and numbers both in their names and their performance stats, can hold such sentimental value 🥰
Got one of these, so many games never know what to play, also works as a plug and play for my arcade 1up with the usb led buttons and sticks, and 1 to 4 players,
Hey Tech Dweeb love the videos, I just started diving into these android boxes for an inexpensive emulator option and you mentioned possibly doing a super console x setup guide video (around 11:30 in this video) as I just ordered this same system on Amazon I would love to see a video on that! I’m pretty new to the whole emulation world so that would be awesome! If not I’ll continue enjoying your videos, take care and enjoy a root beer, cheers!🍻
I actually really dig this thing! It could use more RAM, but I bought it for our break room at work and it does the job well. I will say, for anyone that wants, you *can* back up the games (if you don't already have your own collection), grab a fresh Emuelec 3.9 (dtb file you need will be gxl_p212_1g), and make a fresh install. I actually did that with mine because I didn't like the Kinhank logo being everywhere. You have to like tinkering though. I wouldn't say any of it is hard, but it'll take a good amount of configuring.
Oh cool! Were you able to install Emuelec to a fresh SD card, or did it need to be installed on the device itself? I'd be up for trying this as long as I could go back to the default config for whatever reason.
@@TechDweeb Yeah, fresh card. I watched RGC's review mentioning the Kinhank logos and knew I wouldn't like them, so when I got my SCXC in, the first thing I did was pop out their SD card and use my own. I never even used the original card. Team Pandory has a video for installing EE 4.0 on the SCXPro, and the general process is the same for installing 3.9. on the SCXC. The differences are the dtb file I mentioned, and after you get it to boot you'll probably have to transfer games over using the network since the sd card will be linux partitioned.
I installed a clean install of 4.3 on a new SD card (Sandisk loads way faster). I used a Batocera PC to transfer files via SFTP since I was able to see all the partitions. I then curated the SD card with games I would play, and searched for the top games for all the platforms (removed most of the 3 star and below games). Used the Skraper app offline and had a super clean build that I can give to 4 of my best friends for Christmas! It's not the quantity, but the quality. All the dupes, foreign games, etc are just bloatware.
I bought this thing in September and it it doesn't work I can't do anything with it won't bring up any of the games the operating system is just not working this thing is a cheap Chinese piece of crap
Love my X Cube too … I got mine a year or so ago and the settings and offerings are slightly upgraded on yours here comparatively.. I have no hacks folder or CS-1 or 2 systems I think I have 24 Dreamcast games. Mostly the only issue I’ve had are in N64 games .. mostly the more demanding titles … only 59 ps1 games or so
The Reddit link to this video is awesome. It says, "This one is good. It has an annoying voice but the information is really good.' The price must not be in CDN.
I bought this for my wife for Christmas and I've already backed up the entire SD card that came with it to my laptop. My question now is whether or not I can remove some of the emulators/roms that are on it that I know my wife would never play. I don't want to mess anything up. Any help or tips would be appreciated.
You can delete them off the sd card, but you don't have to. You can just hide them. In the main menu press start to bring up the options, then go to 'game collection settings', and then go into 'systems displayed', and in there you can turn off whatever system you want so they're not displayed in the list.
I got a 2008 iMac with a retro USB N64 controller (mainly for Mario and Zelda). I can't get any Factor5 Star Wars/Indy ROM to run tho. I really want the Game Cube Rogue Squadron games emulated! FYI... If you like root beer, and ginger ale? I highly recommend Bunderburg's (AUS)!!! Soo good! Cheers!
My wife only was excited for DiddyKong Racing for N64 and it doesn't work and looks like crap. How do you make sense of games that have different controller configurations than the Playstation style that come with the console. Also, glitch and lag in Contra as well as ducktales. Only had a couple days and only experimented a little and have ran into many issues with games getting stuck and having to hard shutdown and controls being very difficult to configure for different systems. Any advice??
I can't say for this exact device because I've sent this one onto a new home (it's currently powering my friend's arcade cabinet), but generally for N64 your best bet is to use the libretro-parallel64 core (although I suggest trying all of them to find the one that works best for whatever game) and set the resolution down to 320x240. You can set the controls to be whatever you want in the retroarch menu (hold select and press A to bring up the menu, it might be a different hotkey on yours though, maybe select + X, or l3+r3). In there go down to the controls section of the quick menu and choose your own controls. If you find controls you like make sure you select "save game override" from the quick menu so that it remembers these controls for this game. As for nes games glitching, again you may want to try a different core, and if you need extra performance you can enable "threaded rendering" in the retorarch options (it's not in the quick menu, you need to back out to the main menu and then go into settings/video). I hope this helps!
Hi mate.i was wondering if I could use buttons from old arcade with microswitches to use with usb decoder and make an arcade control panel for the super console x plus. Can the usb decoder work with microswitches and not the usb kind of buttons.thanks.loved your arcade machine.you inspired me to to a control panel.
I think so. I'm not 100% sure about the compatibility with arcade switches and the usb decoder, but it should in theory work as long as the connections fit.
I went through two of them, and I just decided to return the damn thing because it’s too easy to screw it up depending on what choices you make in the menu. My kid will be playing with this and I guarantee you he’s going to be monkeying around at some point and completely brick the console so it’s not worth it to me.
Originally i got into the emulation scene when looking for an old arcade game called Cadash. I sunk untold amounts of money into that game when i was a kid.
I love mine, I was having issues with it over heating on n64 and dreamcast.. but I added a usb fan and it's worked without issue ever since.. this thing is awesome
@@TechDweeb yeah. Wicked gamer shows a video where he takes it apart with a Phillips screw driver. I took it apart and drilled some small holes from the inside out then attached a small usb fan to the top with hot glue and plugged it into the 4th controller port.. I got the fan on Amazon they come in a pack of 4
You can adjust the view mode in the settings. I believe it's under "user interface settings" or something similar. Choose a mode that shows the thumbnail.
Hi techdweeb super console x nes device unfortunately broke with a few wrong moves. The only thing that's broken is the controls. Joysticks entering each other's commands. Shortcuts not working. A joystick moves 2 players. My select button doesn't work in some games. And I can't use my shortcuts. For example, the second joystick cannot press the select button in some games, or my 1st joystick acts as the 3rd Player and moves two characters at the same time. Error after error in games that can be played with 3 players. I think I broke it or the console was stunned. I will send it to the place where I bought it and replace it. Yes, I know you can't handle this. But is there a way to convert this console to the time it was the first day I bought it, like formatting or restarting. I would really appreciate it if you wrote it. I can't find a cure. The console is very confused and immediately confused. Good luck and good luck ❤
Are you able to get into the retroarch settings? If so that's your best bet to fix the controls. You can rebind the controls from the main retroarch menu. However, if you can't do that, if you contact the company they can send you a replacement SD card. That's your easiest option. Good luck!
Yes I can access the retroarch menu, but I cannot use the Select key for retroarch shortcuts. Restart, load, save, exit the game fast, etc. The imput menu won't help me. I think the best way is to format or a new sd card. I joined this stream. 😣
I want to get this thing but I have concerns This console lacks a fan, and the only thing it has is a heatsink chip, it can get up to 70-80° when playing some games, mostly ps1 and n64, which is what I want to use it for I dont care for high end gameplay, I dont need 60 fps,and I dont need the highest resolutions, so that may keep the heat down, but I've heard if it gets that high it can mess up the console, or worse, cause a fire? It's gotten to the point that alot of users online say they open the thing up and drill holes into it, mod it themselves and add a fan And the console manufacturers themselves later released the super console cube x3 which comes with a fan (for a much higher price) Every other channel I ask on sortve ignore me, I'm under the assumption they are peddlers for the devices... What would you have to say on the matter? Is the device actually like that? Or is there no concern if I keep the settings on average
I don't think you're going to get into serious issues with heat, the chip will thermal throttle or just crash if it gets too hot, you're not going to damage the device or start a fire with this thing, trust me! Yeah you can add a fan. There are other versions of this sort of thing that have a fan. I haven't had significant heat issues, I wouldn't bother personally, but if you're trying to play games that are causing the heat to rise and thermally throttle then yeah I suppose that'd work. I'd just opt for a more powerful device in that case tbh. You'll be fine with the vast majority of ps1 and n64 games on this as-is, it'll only give you performance issues on the hardest to emulate games of those systems. And if you keep the settings (resolution, mostly) turned down you'll minimize any risk of throttling. I've used this thing a ton and I haven't had any major issues, I think it's got great performance for the price.
Firstly, thank you for your reply. I wrote that the console detects the joystick 3 split seconds late. You wrote that there is a solution to this. I am using super console x nes it is the same device. Only you wrote the solution to this. Can you write me in more detail? Yes it's a minor issue but it's annoying. I'm really starting to get hung up on it. I would be very grateful if you could reply to this. I don't know English, but I will translate from translate. One more thing, when I set the keys in the retroarch section, the settings I made for a single game make it to all games. I want to set a separate button for each game. I guess I don't know. Is there any way to this? Thanks.
Sure but I don't think I can give you any more detail than my last description. You need to go into the retroarch settings, under the main settings menu, and then into the video section, and in there you can disable the 'threaded video' option. After that, you can go into the latency section of the settings and change the polling behavior option. There are other options in there you can try as well. After you are happy with the settings you can go into the quick menu, under the 'overrides' section, and select "save core overrides", and that will save your new settings for that system. As for your controls issue, after you set the controls you want for a game (under the quick menu, input area), you should save the controller profile. That option is there in the input menu. After that, go to the override section, and select 'save GAME overrides', and then that controller setting will only be saved for that one game instead of the entire system. Retroarch is kind of confusing at first but I suggest you start trying some stuff and seeing how you can save the settings and eventually you will figure it out. Good luck!
Thank you for your reply and help. Thank you very much. I am using super console x nes. same device. And I hope I have the settings you mentioned. And I hope I can find it. I will act according to the setting titles you wrote. I'll try it tomorrow and share it with you. If I can find the settings, I know the problem will be solved. The seller is contacting me. But his knowledge is minimal. I think it would be much simpler if I knew English. Console is very good quality but I am very new. You gave so much information that I wish I didn't need Google. I think you still use this console and know it well. I will be your follower. I hope you continue to help me. Thank you very much. I'm grateful. Good luck. 😍🙏
There are those pc edition super consoles, but those things kind of cost a whole bloody freakin' lot. There is also that 2TB hard drive for those consoles, now that is actually a pretty compelling product. If you're a dirty pirate, that is. Or a clean pirate. Why don't you sometimes show off neo geo games? Pretty sure most of the world hasn't seen an aes in person (I can't find one in local ads ever). Some of those games though, they are still shockingly good.
I absolutely love super console x and enjoyed the video just wanted to add my 2cents as a owner for 1year of super console x and it is that that warning sticker is no joke. If it gets bumped or jostled somehow it can ruin the console or plugging in another controller while its on and it broke. I'm really bad with technology and can barely navigate my phone so don't have a computer or anything and mine didn't have that warning sticker on it. If i had known about that i would still be playing my super console x instead of watching videos about it and crying. Great video👍
Aw that's a bummer. I had an SD card on one of my android emulation boxes get corrupted. I had a backup, so it's all good, but I've heard that some of these companies will sell replacement SD cards at a discount, maybe reach out to the manufacturer and ask them if they have any suggestions for you?
Do you know how to change screen size on console selection.its cut off on all sides.i tried the emulec settings, has configure but can't.i know how to do retroarch.but don't know how to change emulec screen.please help mate
Are you sure it's not your TV 'overscanning' the image? I have a small TV that does that, it cuts off the edge of hte image unless I select "fill screen" as the image size option on the TV. Other than that, make sure you have the correct resolution set in the main emulation station settings.
Adjusted all resolution to 720p which is my TV still same.i guess I'll have to live with it.also do u know why a is b and vice versa same with X and y.but works on games fine.just the console selection screen.
I'm continuing to find problems with this console noticed problems with the Atari 5200 some games have control issues also you can't bring up the controller menu to select no of players so you can't play those games next the intellivision emulation is worse then the N 64 constent flickering sound distortions and if you accidentally push the wrong button trying to start a game in the open beats of rage you will loose the ability to access and play those games
Was going to get this one, but Ali Express had the Super Console X Cube 3 at half the price of Amazon's (its just like this one except it has a fan inside to keep it cool) and I love it! Really enjoyed your review.
Yes actually, there is something you can do. Open up the retroarch settings for the core you are in, go out to the main settings, video, and disable threaded video. Then, under the latency section of the settings, turn on 'run ahead to reduce latency' and set the pulling behavior to early. You can also try experimenting with the frame delay settings. When you find settings that help, under the quick menu, overrides, select 'save core overrides' so that your settings will be enabled on all games with that system.
@@TechDweeb Thank you for your support. I am reading with translation. I don't fully understand, but I'll try to do it. Do you understand the problem I said? I hope there is a solution. 😓
I do appreciate that you’ve dialed it back a hair since the launch of your channel, but your brand differentiators are creative and well executed. Never change a thing!
I got one, I love it... They pretty much puked up radom games on it that make no sense to even be on a console and some don't work but that's all part of the fun. The most important thing is Crazy Taxi.
I love the case they used. I have an old X96 Android Tv Box with a S905X with 2 gigobytes of ram that I put Emuelec on it. So far it plays my PS1 & PSP games great. I haven't tried Saturn or N64, but I think they'll run great.
Great review 👍 please would you review the system SINCLAIR ZX Spectrum. I have a nostalgia for it and probably I will go for this box bcz of your review that hooked me. Thank you 💓
I don't usually check out the old PC systems on these devices because I don't really know how they work. You usually need to enter some commands or pull up a keyboard and I often get stuck so I don't usually bother. I've had this issue with commodore 64 and Amstrad but I don't think I tried the Spectrum, I'll play around with it and if I can figure it out I'll test it in future vids 👍
That's a nice Mechanical Keyboard in the background, how many WPM can you type? Lolz Sorry for diverting from the main topic of this video... (Not rlly) very curious! I also got me one of these from Ebay... Hopefully it'll be a blast! I've played similar emulated content on the pc before, but these seem much more convenient, I think I'll love it.
Hi there another Great review, I brought this system a few months ago and ive tried a few hundred games, And overall ive got to say its Brilliant. Ok its not perfect and i did come across a few games that didn't work and some Arcade games with no sound, Also some game systems require a keyboard and some games require paddle controllers, Not sure what you can do about that, But that still leaves thousands of games that are well worth playing, So i would say 95% of games work just great. So for its overall quality and price its well worth getting. 🙂Regards Darren
Yeah those old computer systems seem like they're not really possible to emulate on a controller. I bet they're pretty fun with a keyboard attached but I haven't tried that. Regarding the arcade games without sound, have you tried different cores for those? I know of at least one game that didn't have sound on the default core that worked fine on a different core, that might be the case for others too.
@@TechDweeb Hi again Ok so until you just mentioned it no i didn't know that changing the core could sort out the sound issues. As i said ive tried about 140 Arcade games and about 10 had no sound. So i'm not that tech savvy so could you tell me how to do that and i might give it a go, Also ive heard some people say that messing around with stuff on these systems could mess them up or corrupt the sd card, Any truth in that as i dont want to press the wrong buttons and mess my X Cube up, By the way i do know about changing the Emulators which i had to do on many of the Arcade games, Which wasn't a problem and i dont mind doing that, Is changing the Core very similar? Regards Darren 🤔
Had my console around a week now having a few gripes like one I can't get the Game n Watch titles to play and a few frame rate issues on some Amiga games. However overall I'm in awe of the system. 👌
I recommend Retro Game Challenge 2 for the DS. You will need to apply the English patch but I am sure you know how to do that. Part 1 is great too and you don't need to patch it.
You wrote an answer for the latency issue. I disabled the Threaded video option and it really worked. Thank you. Another question. We can close the console with the joystick, but we cannot open it in the same way. You have to open it from the back. Is there a way to unlock it with the remote? Or is there any other way?
Glad it helped you out! Nah, you can't turn it on with the controller. I have my Super Console X in my arcade machine and I have that setup so I can turn it on with a wireless power switch & remote, that I got on amazon.
Good review as always, is it necessary to back up the micro sd card? Can you post one of these days how to clone the micro sd. I heard that the micro sd that the manufacturer used is a cheap kind and get corrupted or broken quickly.
I just suggest backing it up because it's a huge headache to get working again if you don't have an easy backup if something goes wrong. I should probably make a video on the topic. Win32 disk imager is the program I use to make my backups.
Received mine today controllers work up until it’s time to play a game I can’t select one or two players and the demo ends up playing no matter what game I want to play, what am I missing?
Another great vid! Definitely the kind of device my kiddos would love. I appreciate the deep dive on this one! I'd totally sign up for a giveaway! For video ideas, I'd be interested in an android tutorial for Retroid Pocket 2+ and phones, like great retro games and APKs for android to play on the Retroid, and how to use the RP2+ and phones to stream from your PC. I'm decent at tinkering but I'm lost on that topic.
Subscribed to you, I more often than not got your videos recommended since I watched your video about the Miyoo Mini, I love your voice and your breakdowns, you are my favourite dweeb on the platform! To your success!
Might pick up one of these just for the spare room. My PC can easily emulate any of this and do it at much higher resolutions with zero issues. DuckStation is a damn fine emulator for PS1. It's pretty stupid that you have to add your own PS1 games to get music on the Super Console X Cube.
@TechDweeb What I need is something that emulates PS1 and PS2 flawlessly with portability. 99.9% of what I play are JRPGs and there are some real legends on those two consoles. There's a few PS2 emulators out there but I haven't found one yet that is all that great.
