This is a good one.The strumming just struck me as being very Buddy Hollie influenced and shows how excellent of a rhythm player Lennon was.Thanks for another great video.

First time I heard this song I actually cried. I don't know if it was the beautiful melody or the words. I think it was both. As a hobbyist songwriter I can't even get close to writing a song this well put together. Production pieces yes but songs are the hardest by far.

Great run through. One of the many simple arrangements that somehow still sounds fresh after thousands of listenings.

Love this ! I remember as a kid trying to emulate John's rhythm patterns and I could never get my head round thinking about down,down,down ups etc... but I had a friend who was a little more advanced than me and said you gotta get your ' janga jangas' right mate ! Since then I always worked it out that way - e.g. jang jang janga, janga janga de jang , lol. Anyways thanks JJ 😊

Allways wished this song was longer. Thanks JJ another one that shows Lennon's outstanding Rhythm Playing ( yours To ) I think this could have been a hit single except they had too many great songs at the same time. Your the best JJ

Excellent as always Mr JJ! ! On the British album on this one the capo is on the 5th fret!! I have read before that the American Capitol records rushed some of these albums hence, altered the original key by speeding up the tapes. Unlike, the British ones!! Thanks for sharing!! Take care!! 👍 👍 🎸 🎸

Amazing chord changes

The D chord where you move from A to A# is a D Augmented Chord. D F# A for D chord become D F# A# as you raise the fifth a half a step.

I loved this song from the first hearing. Was sad to learn that Lennon hated it. A pleasing progression -- especially the F (IV of IV). That "one of those chords that leads to something" is an augmented chord, in this case a V(aug). Indeed augmented chords push you even more than dominant chords to a chord four steps higher -- in this case from D to G. The impelling comes from raising SOL to SOL# making you want to go up another half-step to LA which is comfortably MI of the destination chord. I think Lennon's criticism of the piece is about the lyrics (which I find clever) not the tune since he used the same progression in For the Benefit of Mr. Kite. (Pointed out to me by Mike Pachelli). Good lesson about strumming.

@James James.....love you man....I have been watching your videos for years....on the recording on this song, I have always thought I heard a little bit of 12 string underneath....was wondering what you thought of this possibility? I have never been sure, and I am probably wrong. It also may be that they double tracked John's 6 string to make it sound thicker. Your videos have always been amazing....thank you so much for all of your years of work. I appreciate it.
