"Okami" is the Japanese word for wolf. Might be a good name for the Land Cruiser. Luv to watch ya Luke! I'd much rather watch you brave the elements than drag my butt in the freezing wet snow wind and rain! I dig your meal plans, I've ate some of your concoctions at home! Even eat some of the MRE's! Lol
The Ippikio -okami ( The lone wolf ) -匹狼 here it is in block font. Before my retirement due to illness I used to be an artist. I could easily knock something up to turn into a stencil file. That is, if Luke likes it. It just seems kinda fitting a Japanese lone wolf for the vehicle.
The population of countries that drive on the right is only +/- 30pct of the world population. So how can driving on the right remotely be considered right?
I’m from Boone and I’ve hiked the Linville area several times. When I started to overland, my first vehicle choice was a Land Cruiser of the same era you got but they were so difficult to find. So, I purchased a 2012 FJ Cruiser Trail Teams Special Edition for that purpose. I would recommend you upgrade the shocks on your Land Cruiser as they sound “shot” as your rig was not taking those pot holes well.
😂 lol and it makes you want to spend your money, I’ve bought several items from Luke’s recommendations and I must say I’m very pleased. He’s really spot on with product reviews. 10/10 ! 🫡 👍
I had the V6 version of the Toyota Landcruiser for many years in Dubai, and used it for desert driving. (The V8 was far to heavy on the front wheels, and could dig into the sand.) It had two fuel tanks with a capacity of 145 litres ( about 38 U.S.gallons). It also had provision for a second 12 volt battery if you were going to really remote places! An awesome vehicle with a solid reputation for reliability.
AMEN there! ever since my stroke in Alaska, [ i lived the outdoor life ] the outdoor gear review is all i get now, i was FOOL enough to move to #$% Pa [ my home state ] and living RIGHT in the town of Butler blows as im just stuck here. its so lame compared to AK.😴
@@brianbarton2106 Pennsylvania is an absolutely beautiful state but I don't think anything can beat the beautiful Alaska. I hope your recovery is going well and maybe you will be able to go back.
Hi, Luke. I don't generally comment, but ALWAYS faithfully watch! Just want to say that it's very much appreciated for the way you approach camping and life in general-reminding us it's the simplest things that truly matters. As someone who enjoys escaping to the Blue Ridge of Va as often as I can *and my hubby and I have considered an off-grid cabin like yours, seeing the easy way you take each adventure is so relatable. We are looking at options now for an RV as my back (and now neck) continue to worsen, but we will not give up our own adventures. Thanks, again Luke! It's so fun to come along with you.
Just throwing this out there…. If you plan on using that winch, pull it out and check it. If it’s an original, it probably uses steel cable. Best to check over it and make sure it’s spooled right so you don’t have to find out it’s bad when you need it out on the trail. Nice rig though! Congrats on the find. Merry Christmas to you and yours!
I am so jealous of this vehicle! You have the coolest taste in trucks, I even loved your old diesel pickup, though this one is definitely more suited to camping! As for a name, it definitely needs a Japanese spin to honor it's past adventures. There was a now extinct Japanese wolf called the Honshu wolf, might be cool to try to incorporate that into the name. Can't wait to see more adventures in this truck!
My Stepmom died three years ago this Christmas. Her name is Tsurue (Basically "Too-sur-roo") and was nicknamed Mickey. I would be honored if you would name the truck Tsurue the Toyota! In Japanese Kanji, Tsurue is "spelled" 鶴恵 The first character is "crane" (the bird) and the second character is "blessed". The name fits because with the Land Cruiser, you are free as a bird and you are certainly blessed to own it! Just a thought
That thing is a beast and will take whatever you can throw at it 🥰 the only thing you need to do is always have an oil change every 5000 miles and that's it. Can't wait for you to make more 4*4 camping videos 😍
You could call the vehicle The 442, "Go for Broke"(442nd motto) or something to that effect, honoring WW2 regiment; 442nd Infantry Regiment (Japanese: 第442歩兵連隊) was an infantry regiment of the United States Army. The regiment is best known as the most decorated in U.S. military history and as a fighting unit composed almost entirely of second-generation American soldiers of Japanese ancestry (Nisei) who fought in World War II.
That second yawn made me yawn and as soon as I stopped yawning I chuckled to myself and muttered "did I get ya?" And lo and behold you actually said it for the first time in a while, right after I said it! Haha
Best "overland" vehicle ever. The places I've gone in mine (1997 3X-locked Collector's Edition) have enriched my life in countless ways. What an amazing vehicle. They get you to the destination, goes anywhere you want and best of all they bring you back home. One thing tho: It's not a V6 it is a straight 6. 😊
Hi Luke. Great find on the "TLC",,lol. I'd definitely replace the shocks with some nitrogen precharge coil overs. Not too bad on the bank but a great investment and longevity is there. I've offroaded for over 40 years and went through many of trial and error parts and mock ups. A friend of mine does dash backing overlays for all sorts of vehicles. He was in our club when I was in PA. His name as Azzy and does a great job. Can make them in white as most people want that upgrade to see better. I'm looking forward to what you and Susie do with this beast. As far as names; my wolf in a game is called "SKYWISE" as self explanatory. You have my blessing to use it if wanted. Please mainly you and Susie have a nice and wonderful Merry Christmas and hope to see you soon. Gods Peace to All.~
Congratulations on the "new" Land Cruiser. I also have an 80 series - a 1994 FZJ80. So, the same engine as yours. It's not the fastest or most powerful but they are very reliable! Can't wait to see future camping videos with the 80. My wife and I go camping all over the place with our 80. Has never let us down! By the way, if you plan on getting rid of that stove/sink setup I would be happy to pay to take it off your hands. Also if you would ship it to Canada :). I love old Land Cruiser stuff and would be happy to try and fix the stove and use it in our Land Cruiser. Just a thought.
Luke, mate… 17:37 onwards, when that thumpin’ beat starts up and the cinematic footage of the mountain climbing into the clouds begins? WOW man! Just… wow! That’s the best footage I’ve seen on your channel so far. Mind… absolutely… blown! 🤯
The small modifications over time will be fun to see happen with this Land Cruiser, I see it'll mostly be used on the harder more rugged trails that maybe you've been wanting to travel again.I'll be looking forward to this series.
As someone who overlands with a 35 year old Volvo wagon I would recomend changing all the fluids, you don't know when they were done last, and then changing all the suspension bushings and shocks and springs and the inner and outer tierod ends and ball joints. Those parts would smooth out the ride and eliminate a lot of the creaking and popping.
I enjoy sitting in the truck watching the rain. I often have a Thermus of coffee beside me on the front seat. I keep the camera close in case I see any critters. I'll cheat and sometimes use the truck heater for a warmup. A single seater truck warms up in a snap.
Amazing Luke! We love your new vehicle! How about a roof rack/ storage?! And btw, concerning your toy hauler, if you haven't named it, how about Stella 1?! There's bound to be a Stella 2! And this new family member ,Tokyo Rose!! Cheers from Phoenix p.s. we agree with you that the Japanese are wonderful people
Curtains or window shades for additional privacy at night. A portable air compressor. Great for air mattress, low tires, and blowing out dirt from the back of the vehicle. You already have the Jackery to run it.
Yet another great video! And nice to see you driving on the "right" side! LoL Be interesting to see how you get on with a smaller vehicle, as we don't get pickups as large as yours in the UK.
Now you can work for the postal service and do rural routes. It won't be any problem delivering mail. They all have right hand drive vehicles. I was stationed in Japan and drove a 1976 Toyota Celica GT. Loved it! Snorkel will do more than you think. Your air comes from the fenderwell where dirt is kicked up by the tires. That will dirty your filter quickly. The snorkel will bring in clean air from above the vehicle and will help the engine last longer. If you look at the military vehicles, they have a snorkel with a dirt/dust collector to catch the debris before it gets into the engine.
Love it! Hope the SUV is good to you and Susan for adventures to come. Also, since the SUV will be "hunting" for its adventures, how about Jaegar? Jaegers and Kaijus are always fighting in Japanese media.
Hi mate these are common in AUSTRALIA what I might suggest for yours (1) Roof Rack for extended trips (2) High Lift Jack quicker and easier than a normal jack plus it can fit on the spare wheel
I'd name her the (Grey Wolf) or (Spirit Wolf) would fit the the theme of your channel. Those are very strong trucks and Japanese know how to keep there vehicle's well maintained. Great video and the truck is awesome.
Luke👍👍 Can't go wrong with a Toyota dirt machine. I've had many over the years and some I wish I still had like a 77' FJ40 and a 80' FJ45 p/u. Modding yours for camping and such will be a fun journey and a shock to your wallet but what a journey it will be. This was a great video showing off the Land Cruiser, good score. Too bad no campfire, next time maybe. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and the family. See ya next time.
Started out with one of the first built LCs and owned many through the years. Best ever vehicle in the bush n farm in Oz. Shame they became a show type instead of a workhorse. One of mine did over half million Ks . Bushyboy Oz.
Oh my goodness how you slept thru the night…..but this is your story to tell, and I will listen. Blessing to you for sharing your life journey. Thank you
hello, first of all thanks for the great content, one of the things that helps the most is adding insulation between the sheet of the car and the interior plastic, the best thing is that it does not take up space within the usable area inside the car.
Had a “89” Toyota Landcruiser. Me n the kids loved it. Had butcher block lid for center console and covering entire tailgate. Was great off-road and in snow. Biggest mistake getting rid of it. Got a 78 FJ55 now. So much fun. I do believe the plush carpet is common.
Land Cruisers are amazing vehicles. Absolutely bomb-proof. One of my best memories of a right-hand drive vehicle is having a passenger in it asleep. The amount of shocked looks you get from other road users is hilarious! They're fast asleep at the wheel! 😂😂
I purchased a1983 land cruiser wagon new, and have had several offroad vehicles before and after that. The land cruiser was by far my favorite. And that's with three jeeps from 1955 to 2006 in my possession as I write this.
Check your suspension Luke, shocks and the springs, get the oil changed and do the everything like flush your transmission fluid, and have your radiator coolant flushed… change your cabin filter and the engine element filter…
I never comment but love your Land Cruiser. The price of them have skyrocketed so much since Covid I’ve never found one that clean. Can’t wait for more videos.
Hey Luke, since you have one truck named Moose, you should name your new land cruiser "BEAR" or "COUGAR". And the new truck looks really cool, I might look into one for myself.
That landcruise is so damn clean! hope you keep it till the end, they don't make cars/trucks robust like that anymore, it's a true gem.. I miss my (cousin of the landcruiser) 1997 4runner.
When I worked for ARAMCO (Saudi Arabia) in the early 1980s I was issued a Toyota Land Cruiser. As far as I could tell, it was identical to the Toyota light truck produced during WW2 except for modern headlights and taillights. It was a left side driver vehicle and not a "camper".
Love the Cruiser..Most amazing vehicle.. I would suggest a roofrack and a side mounted roof tarp. They are retractable into a box which is secured to the rack, almost like a pull down blind.
No one else had said it. But a right hand drive, fully kitted out Landcruiser is 100% Australian. There is a reason they are the vehicle of choice in the Outback.
Check the backup light bulbs. Sometimes people put in an after market bulb with a beeper in it. If so, just change back to the original bulb. Should be able to listen and see if the beeping is coming from one of the back- up lights.
