Let's explore & test the new C64 CIA & CPU chips that finally exist! I'm so excited to share this one. (You'll also get to meet #SassyPeri as I take a rare moment to answer some YT comments.) Huge thanks also to the EVO 64 team and Jani Laatikainen for allowing me this exclusive access to the first production EVO 64 & the beta J-chips you'll see

I like it.... Except one thing. The keyboard led are confusing and makes the machine look crooked. Get rid of them, and install a dimm strip or multiple strips. Need to be dimm light, just barely visible. As it wont overtake the keys and letters/prints. Right now one cant see some of the keys because light overtakes.

Please don’t change a thing about your videos (unless it’s something that YOU want). Your content is some of the best content on RU-vid, and there are a lot of people who really appreciate your positive attitude and the nostalgic journey that you take us on with every episode. It’s really easy to let the negativity get to us, especially when you’re involved in such creative endeavours, but I just hope you know how much your work and passion means to us. You’re content has surely kept a lot of people sane during these crazy times that we live in. 🙂

As a british chap of a similar age to your good self, i really appreciate what you do and how you do it. To me it not only covers the technology that was around in my childhood but it does it in a happy friendly and inviting way, which people of all ages can enjoy. The whole spirit of the show evokes a time when there was less cynicism and things being done for purely for shock value or clicks. It's educational, informative and entertaining - something that the BBC used to do well back in the day. Thanks for taking the time to give us this and here's to a great future!

In 1989, I was in college learning electronics. Everyone in the class got a TRS-80 color computer kit to assemble and keep. I don't mean to brag (much) but I was the first person to get their kit assembled. Not only that, mine was the only one that worked. My instructor asked if the school could keep it for classes since it was the only one that worked.

But seriously Perifractic and all of the Perifractic family, you are to be highly commended for your enthusiasm and tireless efforts to keeping the spirit of the Commodore 64 and retro computing alive in such a fun, informative and contemporary way! And what's more, you make it look easy when it is clearly not, and you never cease to amaze us in seeking to find a new angle on the Commodore world. For making replacements of these old chips, I hope more FPGA designers take advantage of the Fossi Foundation. To make a new chip in the form of an ASIC, you submit your FPGA code, and they'll do a large run of chips for free (paid for by Google), including the packaging the chip comes on (if you're happy to go open-source)

Love what you do here, don't change a thing! We're all watching and subbed because we love your style, including your delivery, the corny jokes, dogs and speech bubbles. It's what makes you YOU and your channel unique. There's always some nutters in the comments on every channel, invariably not watching the whole video, or even some of it before commenting. I often get some asking or questioning something which I explain within the first minute or even 30 seconds, or simply moaning because I don't speak with an American accent. Ultimately the complainers and pedants represent a tiny percentage and while it's hard not to respond - and it can be cathartic to do so - try to focus on the 99% who appreciate what you do. Besides in the wise words of RuPaul, "Unless they're paying your bills, pay them bitches no mind". Keep up the good work - oh, and another great video too, thanks!
@RetroRecipes

Very well said. Ladyfractic loves RuPaul. I think what had happened here is the squeaky wheels kept squeaking whilst the happy loyal viewers simply watched and stayed silent because they were happy, and I sort of started to believe the negative nancies. What a beautiful C64! It produces a picture that’s so much better on a CRT monitor than mine did on a 9-inch Texas Instruments monitor back in 1983! Right now, I use my TheC64 Mini with an HDMI monitor to get my “Jumpman”, “Zaxxon” and “Choplifter” fix. After my home renovation, I’ll break out the NTSC C64 (I had a PAL one in Germany) and my original 1982 NTSC VIC-20 and REALLY dig into those and try to get them working. Just? Because! Mahalo for just being there and inspiring me. BTW…is it just me, or has the resolution of your videos improved of late. The sharpness and clarity are apparent even to this OAP, LOL! Aloha!

Perifractic doesn’t need me to defend him, but I will support him in this way with an interesting story. When I was a kid, my dad got my sister and me each the bread box style, C64 computer. We had them for two or three years, maybe, and then, within a week of each other, both of their power supplies failed. This caused both computers to essentially fry. Even replacing the power supplies didn’t seem to help. This is at a time before the Internet, so if you wanted to get any action from a company, you had to either call or write a letter. My dad wrote a letter to commodore complaining about these failures. I want to say he addressed the letter to the vice president in charge of production. I don’t think I have a copy of that letter anywhere. He got a response to the letter, which essentially said if you send in both of the computers and power supplies, we will send you them either repaired or replaced. A few weeks later, we received two Commodore 64cs. So, whenever this happened, it was after those have been released, and I seem to think that it was probably very early on the run, because I don’t think we had heard of them yet. And I got several of the different magazines for Commodore computers. Or maybe my dad did and I got to read them. I don’t member which. So now we had two brand new computers, and we were relatively satisfied with that, they worked exactly the same as the old ones did. But then, about a month after that, the two original computers were also returned to us repaired. They included brand new power supplies for those, so now we had four computers. I wish I could tell you what we did with the two ones that they sent back repaired, but I remember being very impressed that that was their solution to our problem. Not long after that, it inspired my dad to get a Commodore 128, which, as most people will know, have the same industrial design as the commodore 64C.

I can also completely understand why your voice has been requested on numerous star-studded films, but some people...well, their envy is very envydent, lol We are of a similar age and brought up around similar things, and I honestly can't think of anybody else on RU-vid who touches the nostalgic parts that other hearts simply cannot reach. The recreation of your childhood bedroom setups, building that Star Wars arcade replica, the Brixty Four, this brand new C64...projects done with love and a passion for sharing are beyond reproach. My personal fave and machine with the most nostalgia is the Amiga 500, specifically the demo scene, and even more specifically, the music. I used to love the challenge of ripping MOD files from demos and intros using things like the Datel Action Replay. I'm a massive fan of synth and electronic music of all kinds, and the fact that you compose your own music too is just the icing on the Perifruitic Cake. Never stop doing you, and for sheer giggles, keep on ripping into the haters as well, was comedic gold they would never understand! lol Cheers!

The J-CIA's are live!!! Only you could have accomplished that. Jani is a good bloke, though. He sent me one of his J-PLA's to fix my first Breadbin when I got back into the whole retro thing.

What a gorgeous new build! I never owned a C64 when I was younger (I had to wait for the A500) but after seeing this, I want one now :) And don't listen to the bad comments, your channel is one of the best (if not THE best) retro content on the Internet ;) Thanks god they don't do the same kind of build for Amiga, or my wallet would be out of control :D

Excellent production quality, I’m very impressed. The camera work, the colouring, the effects, the studio, the editing, the sound, the presentation… and even the dog :-). 10/10, would watch again.

I can’t believe that you’re claiming this is a brand new build when you’re pulling parts from a C64 that you’ve previously built! I’m yanking your chain of course. This is great work! Keep it up.

The commodore 64 was my first computer, I loved it. I had the bread box version with a tape deck, but a eventually bought a disk drive for it.

First, fantastic job. I am really liking the concept of the string lighting you used. The lights gave off a better effect then I thought it would. Finally, the Hans Gruber beard is on point. Very nice!

hey, I've been watching for some time now, don't change ! its perfect the way it is!!! I remember the days in my childhood playing comodore64 games! mine had a cassette tape drive for loading programs. even waiting for several minutes to load a simple game was worth it. thanks for the content!!!

The quality of digital filters would not only depend on the sampling rate but also the resolution of the filter. Filter stepping can be audible when doing a filter "sweep" if the resolution is not high enough. In any case, very exciting project and great video! 😄

I can't believe the number of people that are forced to watch a RU-vid video even if they don't like it. Are they held at gunpoint or something to make sure that they watch it against their will? I know if I find a video I don't like, based off the content or their voice etc, I can just skip/scroll right by and forget about it! Keep up the great work, I still have fond memories of playing C64 games as a child.

I really wanted to bring this to your attention on the old vid but the comments were turned off by the time I found it. There’s another c64 board called the Uni64. It’s pretty similar to the c64reloaded with its barrel connector power input and general similarity to the short-boards. The craziest part is that it supports not just two SIDs but _three_
