Had to settle for the highlights here because the full replay of the match on the SquashTv webpage is not working! Frustrating as a paying member.

Farag is an unbelievable athlete. Literally switches his game plan after game 1 to just tire Elias out... Then follows through with it

This is up there with some of the highest quality squash matches I’ve ever seen. Elias was exceptional and Farag just sublime…his retrieving and reaction volleying is just next level.

I really like watching Elias, it’s like having Jon Power back, he’s really taken on his shots and style.

Farag is like an impregnable fortress with an attacking capability comparable to any other Egyptian. Furthermore, his movement is too efficient, one can not simply tire him out. It seems he will be staying at the top for a while.

Yes. I think he can be ground down by a player like Paul Coll but Farag finds a way to neutralise the more attacking opponents. I will be intrigued to see if Gawad can find a way to beat him. He has come up just short in two recent events. Exciting times...

that third game was one of the best i've ever seen. The way Elias kept rallying and almost even won it was amazing. He's not far off...

Such an incredible match. The skill, variation and patience were just on a different level to anything Ive seen in recent years. Long may this rivalry continue.

Farag is also an authority on middle-east conflicts and generously took the opportunity to use part of his winners speech to set out some of his views on the matter (though it did not make it onto this highlights video)

And what did he say im curious?
@1000000trs
@1000000trs 10 месяцев назад
@@animeshka239 Well, his words on the matter were quite brief, so it was inevitably a very incomplete picture, and so sounded suportive of one side. I don't know enough about the conflict or the complex history to know whether I agree with it, and I'm conscious it's very sensitive, so I feel a bit reluctant to repeat it.

Congrats to both best retrievers of the squash circuit today. It looks so easy when you look at them playing. They really master the games incredible of accuracy and strategy as well 👍🏻 And tbh, no stress watching them playing not Loke some players, discussing and arguing on every single points they loose…

It's almost like Farag chose to play sub-optimally in the first game just to extend it and tire Diego before adapting his tactics... I feel like Diego has to either somehow get much fitter or just play high risk in the first game in future because this is a pattern now whenever we see Farag play Elias

The rally from 3:13 is just a sequence of perfectly chosen, near-perfectly placed winners from Elias with Farag getting every one back... Elias played so well, not only in terms of talent, but shot selection. Farag is just near unbeatable when he's in this form. Djokovic-like.

When I saw that Diego Elias had a good lead in the first game and even won it, I did decide that that he was probably going to lose. Ali Farag is the kind of cucumber that cooly assesses his opponents strengths and weaknesses for a while, even if it means losing the first game. (All the same, Ali will also put some real miles on the legs of his opponent even if he does lose the first one.) Why is it so difficult to beat Ali Farag? (1) His movement is as efficient ‘as efficient can be’. He floats around the court and never seems to tire, the longer he plays the more he seems to be enjoying himself. He is lanky and gangly in the worst kind of way, if you are up against him. This is also demoralizing when you, his opponent, have lungs on fire and legs full of lactic acid, in the middle of game two. (2) Ali Farag can retrieve anything that is physically possible to be retrieved by a living being known as a human (so disallowing angels etc). This means that no single shot can be expected to get a point. It means that there is no such thing as hitting consistent winners out of the blue against Ali Farag. (3) He is inherently unpredictable in style, and to make the matter worse, he routinely uses holds. Like Ramy Ashour, he has a wrist like a piece of steel spaghetti. (Do not recommend the viewing of such players to your novices - Farag and Ashour threw out the textbook requirements for a proper stroke long ago.) Ali Farag can be watched but he often cannot be read. The resulting demands, placed on opponents’ legs and brains (resulting in the frequent need to revise one’s direction and intent in the court), are very taxing indeed. In commenting on this particular match, this amateur would venture to say that Diego Elias attempted too may soft high cross-court lobs that ended up being to playable by the likes of an Ali Farag. Also Diego, you are a big man. (We have met, given your height and your shoulder width I felt small before thee, even though I am an athletic 6 footer). You are going to need a rather astonishing level of fitness in order to maintain your usual full focus after three games. Maybe do navy seal training in the mornings and paratrooper training in the afternoons. At the highest levels of the game (yes you are indeed playing at the highest level of the professional game Diego) it is about mental toughness. Errors creep in because of the competition that starts to take place between your internal choice between the physical demands and the mental demands. Your brain has to be crystal clear to the end, being able to tell your body to do whatever your brain dictates it to do, no biofeedback backtalk allowed or countenanced.

Great analysis. Also at 9-9 point in that second game Diego attacked short way too many times, he needs to hit more kills or tight drives to the back, winning in the front is rare with farag

Great game. Farag is just too good for Diego. I love watching him play however I don't think it was necessary to voice personal political views by Farag at the end of the prize ceremony though. Politics and sport don't mix

The margin between the top players is so thin, it's more mental than physical when they play each other, because as far as skill and experience, they're pretty much all near 10/10. It's like they can both move their oppenent around anywhere while knowing most always where to be, when and how, then producing the best option shot selection near always, while seldom showing errors. It's honed ESP.
