Absolutely, that's crazy, I've been married for 24 years, there are many conversations I have with thr opposite sex that I never bring up my husband or that I'm involved. What, are people just supposed to open every conversation like "hi im so n so and I am in a relationship!" That's just weird, especially if you're just having a casual convo then the other person be like ok good for you, I wasn't trying to hit on you, um goodbye...

I think there's definitely ways to very subtly slip it into conversation IF you pick up early on enough that the person may be interested, but he might not have. I don't think he deserved all the flack he got.

I agree. But I think Charlotte hit on the real reason he said he had a girlfriend. After 2 hours talking to her, he realized she was crazy AF. I doubt he even had a girlfriend. He just said he did to try to get out gracefully.

I remember one time I met this really nice guy at the station one evening and we got to chatting. We were headed the same way, so continued our conversation on the train. While this is going on and we’re both asking each friendly questions, he casually mentions his wife in relation to something I said. You know what I did? I continued the conversation in a friendly manner and let go of the hopes I had of a potential new relationship with the guy, and remained perfectly civil for the rest of the train ride. That should be the reaction because just because someone is talking to you does not mean that they necessarily flirting. Don’t make assumptions.

Exactly. Mine is a once in a lifetime sunrise on commute to work. It's even framed and hanging on my wall. The whole train was turning heads when seeing this beautiful scene. Literally everybody. So, no partner will ever replace that picture 🙃

I'm half Brazilian and for me dancing is just dancing and having a good time, regardless of who I'm dancing with, but in the UK going out dancing socially is almost never just dancing. 😅 I'm a girl and I often get worried that guys will get the wrong impression if I dance with them!

I was talking to this guy on the commuter train for weeks. When I finally asked if he and his girlfriend did something together. I was fishing to see his reaction. He could have denied being in a relationship. He was quiet for a minute and said that yes, he and xxx did whatever together. His speech started included 'We' instead of I, me, my. He was trying to hide his relationship and put himself forward as single and available.

I can be pretty clueless about it sometimes. Especially if it's not extremely obvious. But I've made it a general rule of thumb to mention my significant other at least within the first 10 minutes of conversation. I don't necessarily say flat out I have a boyfriend/girlfriend but I mention something we did together recently or something we both enjoy. I do this because I've been in a few situations where they make it obvious or make their move and I realize all the signs I missed I apologize and they still get upset with me. I hate confrontation so I just put it out there for them to make a mental note on and if they continue the conversation with me afterwards then they wanted a genuine friend or someone to talk and if they don't then it wasn't worth continuing the conversation anyway because they were looking for something more then I was able to give.

I have this next door neighbor’s kid who I used to babysit. She was given a 90’s Barbie by a tenant in the building, and was told it was vintage. She shows me it and asks when I was born and I say 1994, and she just looks at me with the biggest smile, “does that make you my vintage friend?” And I just smile and turn BRIGHT RED. I agree with the first part of your comment. I've had so many guys tell me this and they all had major issues and red flags. I'm in a great relationship right now and it was a very slow burn that took years. However, the idea that if it were role reversed it would have been on the news and he would've been arrested...lol, have I got news for you! In my experience I have found many males have been the victims of abuse and it not taken seriously. My opinions are solely based on experiences of consolation of people because of my job. But I do understand I am just one voice of the billions, I do appreciate the kind comment.

Honestly, it's possible it just took the guy on the plane that long to realise that the girl was interested in him. Some of us are just that oblivious lol. Years ago, a guy stopped by my kiosk during my shift and started asking me about music. I got excited cos at the time I didn't know many people who were also metalheads (small town) so I was totally into the conversation. When he finally walked away, he said "sorry if you have a boyfriend" and I couldn't have been more confused lol. I thought we were just talking about music 😅

It's actually kind of a good sign if he takes friendly behavior at face value as friendly. Even if it's a little more than friendly. About telling the other person that you are in a relationship. I did that because I got some weird vibes from a guy on the train... then got a 20min lecture on how arrogant and deluded I was for thinking he was interested in me. It is not always easy to drop the "I am taken" line, especially if the person you are talking to turns out to be deranged and potentially dangerous.

I felt SO SORRY for the guy on the plane who neglected to tell the girl in the seat next to him about his girlfriend for two hours. Nobody deserves her reaction and subsequent stalking. If the situation were reversed and she was the guy reacting to a girl like that, and trying to follow her to her car, everyone would have stepped in to protect her from him. I honestly think that guy deserved the same protection. She was too weird for words. Who knows what she's capable of?

I usually drop the "I have a bf" line by saying something like "oh yeah, my boyfriend would love that" or something to that effect. Simple, effective and skirts the issue of presumption on both sides. He can't say "Well, I wasn't hitting on you" or "you never said you have a boyfriend"

The vintage Beyoncé clip totally hit my funny bone. 😂 In 2016, when my mom (92) was still alive, my daughter and grandson were visiting her at the care home. Aiden had taken his guitar and was playing her a song when I arrived. She couldn’t hear very well but she loved watching him. My daughter looked at him and said, “It’s too bad you don’t know something that Nana would know.“ He replied, “I know Bad Moon rising!“ My jaw dropped as I said “That’s not old!” And she said “Well mom, it kinda is!” 😂 I stopped and thought about it for a minute and realized that it had been 50 years since the song was released. 🤪 Funny how fast time passes as you get older…..especially when the “I inside” refuses to grow up!! 😅

So I typically find a way to mention "oh my partner likes that too" or something similar. Then they can find a casual way to leave the conversation without either of us feeling super awkward by the admission.

Not only have I told guys I had a boyfriend at times when I didn’t, but sometimes guys just didn’t care so I wore an actual wedding band or engagement ring to work and would tell guys who asked that I was married and engaged. Sometimes that still didn’t stop them, but it did for the most part. I wasn’t interested in dating someone who would ask out girls at places they couldn’t exactly leave to get away from them (aka: their jobs!)

Remember hearing that myself while growing up and thinking that man these old farts really being old farts 😂😂😂 My grandma who would next turn 100 years said that old people were like that in the 30's already when she was a teen.... She said Marilyn Monroe was a tough one for them old lads to comprehend 😂 But there's nothing wrong with aging, many things become easier with age and its easy to forget all the hardships that come with growing up. You always lose some but also gain some, i think one of the best things about getting older is that to be able to laugh at comments like this and to think like yeah, i really am kinda old for this shit but i dont even care because im an adult now and kids opinions of me won't form my whole perception of me anymore. I have no reason to pity or otherwise berate them in order to feel better of myself. They are kids and to them im old. And that is very ok and probably also true

One thing I've learned about watching my fiance (whose also has a long scar across his forehead from a wreck last October... Head injury) interact with women at the tire shop, I've seen the other guys have to go tell him some times before he realizes that a woman was flirting with him, and then others I'm watching this woman throw everything that would've worked on her past guys at him and he just goes on with a conversation like they were talking about the weather. I do get jealous at these a lot of times mostly the fact that the women who try it, have seen him with me just a week before when they were in the shop fixing a flat. In a guy's mind (the good ones) they know they have one woman, that one woman is the one that they solely want, now after that they just like to talk, and their dad's taught them to treat women with respect.... So as much as we may hate that guys are friendly with us girls, and we mistaken it for them flirting, just remember, they learned exactly how to treat a woman by watching how dad treated mom, and they go from there 😂😂😂

The thing about telling someone you have a partner early on, is that men are mostly oblivious to when they're being flirted with, and we run the risk of looking cocky if we assume the other person is interested and feel the need to mention our significant other. We have to straddle a weird line of not assuming women are interested just because theyre being nice or making conversation, while also straddling the line of looking like we are inviting romantic attention from the opposite sex, especially when women are never blatantly obvious with it, they'll drop hints that they think are very cut and dry, but most men do not get that much female attention
