I like Jenna, she at least has a backbone and told her agent to not listen to Disney after they lowballed her to join Marvel, she seems like a really cool/chill person and a nice lady in her interviews and she isnt a industry parrot, she actually speaks her mind and gives vaild reasons why gender swapping for the sake of gender swapping is stupid and unnecessary, I'd invite her to my patio for drinks and hold a conversation with her.

Few things here. - Lydia is a child in the original movie. Being a completely different person 36 years later shouldn't be hard for anyone to understand. - Lydia is not freaked out and unhinged by ghosts. She's freaked out and unhinged by one particular ghost that tried to manipulate her into marrying him when she was a child, not long after she saw the crazy and terrifying stuff he can do. - Lydia doesn't take pills to stop seeing ghosts. She's taking them for panic attacks and anxiety. - "Stop trying to make Jenna Ortega happen" is a really damn weird thing to day about one of the most successful and busy actors in the world... which is earned because she's very talented - In the original, someone who had no psychic abilities whatsoever picked up that book for the first time and figured out how to someone two ghosts in a matter of hours. You're literally making stuff up

Agreed with your view and pointing out a few things. Disagreed with most of them. They brought their own baggage to their experience. Plus most of them make comments like they didn't even watch or pay attention to the film. Even RK points out that some of them are wrong lol. And totally fair, you're allowed to like what you like or not like what you don't like, but most of these opinions are a stretch. There are more to point out as well, but not worth it. It's YT comments lol
@gdmav7775
@gdmav7775 5 дней назад
@starkravingdad8562 well said, everyone is entitled to like or not like whatever they feel like... but it feels like that isn't even what happened in this review. This looks like people went into a movie, admittedly didn't pay attention, and them rambled and ranted about why they don't like something they barely watched and did nothing but expose they didn't actually pay attention. To each their own, every opinion is valid, but opinions on a movie become less valid when those opinions are based on bias and not paying attention

@uumanebs

I don't think Hollywood is trying to push Jenna Ortega. The media has been on a campaign for years trying to knock her down a peg bc she parrots what the fans say - what you on this show say. What she was getting absolutely lambasted for on the set of Wednesday was the same type of stuff that Amazon is trying to use to get Henry Cavill canceled for now. Which is saying you're using these rights to have a built in fanbase and then completely changing the property so that even the original fans want nothing to do with the product. That they need to cast actors, not check boxes. So its really funny to hear a woman who parrots the same beliefs going at a young woman in HOLLYWOOD who is actually telling that directly to the talking heads at the studios, the journalists, etc. It's kind of a miracle she hasn't been given the Gina Carano treatment, which likely comes down to her being a kid that survived Hollywood. Yet they absolutely have pushed that she's impossible to work with, she has a bad attitude, etc bc they can't go at her like they did Gina or what they're now doing to Henry. This is a little brown woman saying things to their face that would get anyone else accused of being racist, sexist, etc.
@zolarenard2246
@zolarenard2246 9 дней назад
The thing is Jenna didn't parrots what the fans say. She knew what people wanted to see, something unique and different. I followed her since before she was in Wednesday and she seemed to always genuinely loved characterization and storytelling (even old movies I didn't even know existed). She even stayed away from social media now because of the attack she received last time and AI Deep Fake (which she didn't do anything wrong and an article was the cause of that attack). That's why she didn't agree with changing a core of a franchise. Also, Hollywood has always been divided into two. The one who hated her will attack her along with their goons. The one who genuinely loved making new non-woke movie will like her and offered her opportunities. It's just how toxic Hollywood is unfortunately.

I guess they needed to hire a lookalike actor and then have Tim Burton decapitate him live and give a 5 minute speech denouncing pedophilia or something rather than just maintain narrative consistency and make him a joke.

It might have gone over better if maybe a new family had moved into the old Maitland house & they call on Lydia as a paranormal expert to get rid of new ghosts, and then Beetlejuice enters the mix. But then we'd probably be complaining it was just a rehash of the original. They tried a lot of new stuff here while keeping it feeling mostly like the old movie. Modern Hollywood loooooves subverting past stories when making sequels/prequels. This is to diminish the worth of what came before, saying, "Look at me! I did it better!" When in fact what we perceived is, "Look at me! I have no respect for my predecessors and zero creative talent!"

Michael Keaton agreed to do the sequel only as long as he had little screen time so that's on him. As far as Jones goes I'm not sure why any offender should be punished for the rest of their lives once they've completed their sentence. I thought we weren't supposed to do that anymore. They tried to turn this into a chickflick. Beetlejuice didn't make the dinner party sing and dance to Day-O (the banana boat song) That was the Maitmand's trying to scare the party. I have to do a quick rant to get my actual rant out of the way. I think Chrissy forgot the definition of hypocritical. Yeah Disney treated Ginas character one way and this father Deetz character was treated completely differently aaaand THIS IS NOT A DISNEY MOVIE. You cant call it hypocritical because some completely different company handled things completely differently. Now is it hypocritical for Hollywood as a whole? Sure. But Hollywood is not one singular entity. Its a school of fish, at best. However, having said all that I believe the entire movie needs tightening up. I agree the father character should have just passed long ago and they could have returned to the house because Lydias show needed the ratings boost. There were way too many story threads that didnt jell together in any meaningful fashion. That whole Ex Wife shit could have been used but in a different way in a different story. She was built up as this terrifying force that ate souls yatta yatta yatta and then at the climax she is taken care of without breaking any kind of a sweat. So why even have her? This script needed to be tightened up and things handled differently and other threads deleted outright.

@@ioncewasmikey yeah, got it. It’s not in line with the first film. He said the incantation is so she can enter, but that was a lie, it was so she could trade with him. But it makes no sense. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice suffers from the same problem as Ghostbusters Frozen Empire. It's overstuffed with too many characters and too many subplots. Consequently the film has a lack of focus and doesn't allow the time and space that any one subplot needs in order to breath or be fully explored. I watched this movie yesterday and yes, until now I still have mixed feelings regarding this. I LOVE AND HATE IT at the same time. Firstly, everyone's acting is as top-notch as always, but the pacing and story structure ruined it for me. The movie itself is still very quirky and unique, but the way they tried to force the entire three subplots into one seemed to be... very forced. The movie itself felt like it consisted of small multiple arcs, instead of the usual 3 arcs in movies. In contrast, the final felt so underwhelmed because it felt like the final supposedly about the Deetz family beating Beetlejuice. Instead, we got an odd albeit unique and funny wedding scene as the final about similar things, without the father who supposedly became a key point here. Also, the plot could be written better for intertwining the whole Bettlejuice's curse and his ex-wife and why the Deetz had a chance beating them... That being said I still absolutely enjoyed this movie and because I watched the interviews, followed the actors a bit, and knew the script was written a bit based on the characters... it was hella hilarious when you noticed which reference they used here and there. Also, Tim basically said F*** Disney 😅

Your comment made me laugh. Saw this with my girlfriend. We both left the theater. Silent. I think we were both trying to gauge what the other thought of it. Finally, she just blurted out "That was not a good movie." I nodded and we haven't discussed it since.

Tim had always wanted to make Beetlejuice sequels for years, but wasn't able to find the right fit for the last actor until Jenna Ortega worked with him in Wednesday. Tim literally gave the script to Jenna, which she didn't expect because she was supposedly got an review regarding Wednesday's ideas for S2, and wait until she agreed before proceeding with the movie. It was kind of hilarious actually.

If you break this movie down there's alot of callbacks and references not just to the original Beetlejuice but to other classic horror movies and pop culture as well. It was way better than many other sequels from beloved classics we've gotten lately.

I disagree with eliminating Monica. "The ex-wife of Beetlejuice" plot line/backstory AND Astrid being abducted by the boy---both plotlines should've stayed. As a filmmaker and writer, I think they broke the age-old rule: if it doesn't drive the pacing of the story and is irrelevant: CUT IT. The ex-wife plot: GREAT!! The plot of the ex-wife gave us insight into Beetlejuice pre-death, during the Black Plague. The finger of his ex-wife in the first film....and its explanation here. Her marching though---like a beautiful super-villain wasn't the issue. THE ISSUE WAS THE CLIMAX. Beetlejuice AND Monica should've had a super-power battle. Remember: Beetlejuice turned into a snake....he does all kinds of tricks with his powers. Monica should've countered him, with HER powers....and Lydia, Delia and Astrid should've been caught in the middle of this WAR. THAT should've been the climax. Using this super-villain and then having her meet the same fate as Beetlejuice (with the sandworm) was lame. She's powerful, for a reason. Delia didn't need to die from a snake bite🙄 She should've replaced Justin's character; as the person who joins Lydia and Beetlejuice....to find her daughter. Winona Ryder's assistant (Justin): unnecessary character. He should've made a brief cameo.....and stayed in New York. Lydia as a ghost hunter was funny AND it made sense. Also: not all ghosts are the Maitlands. We don't know the types of demonic spirits Lydia encountered, since 1988! So her fear and medication was appropriate. The death of Charles Deitz (via claymation) was FUNNY AS HELL!! That was a great way to give him a send off. Also (as a filmmaker ): his death was a driving force needed to pull these characters to that house. They can't just pretend he wasn't an important figure, simply because of the actor's behavior. I feel this female critic is putting too much of her personal bias on this....as opposed to understanding how to deal with a main character (it became more obvious, when she referenced "The Mandelorian"😒). I DO think after the funeral---and possibly the Chinese cleaners scene---they should've ended scenes with the Charles character. The claymation and funeral was enough. The funeral should've been sooner and Astrid should've met the boy, sooner. Again, golden rule: capture your audience within the first 15 minutes of a movie/pages of a book. It's the "narrative hook". William Dafoe's character should've been cut. Totally unnecessary. I still gave this a C+/B-.....because it had many good moments....but it needed more editing/tightening. In a case like this: a focus group IS important. It should've been a group of Beetlejuice fans who signed non-disclosure agreements....and watched the first cut of this movie. I feel once artists reach a certain status, they feel they can "re-do the magic", flawlessly. Obviously, this is not true.

I want a 3rd one where she meets her real mom but her mom turns out to be into witch craft and ends up being the antagonist and Astrid summons beetlejuice to save her mom since every movie Lydia asks beetlejuice to save someone else. If they don’t have a 3rd one, itll be the worst OCD for me 😂

I'm a huge fan of the original movie, and I never expected this to be better or even as good as the original. I do like that Beetlejuice is a more present character in the movie, I like the begrudging alliance with Lydia and the kind of trickster antihero role he takes on. But there's just too many random plotlines. Delores serves literally no purpose at all, she has no connection to anything happening and nobody even comes face to face with her until the very end. I wanted her to be the main antagonist of the movie, we didn't need the random murderer kid. I thought that Beetlejuice trying to marry Lydia was going to end up being some kind of loophole to get his ex wife away from him, and that was going to be the main conflict. It's a very scattered and incoherent movie. _That said..._ Watching Michael Keaton ham it up in the old striped suit is well worth the price of admission, and for that alone I have no regrets in going to see it. And Willem DaFoe is always a joy to watch, plus I actually like this Jenny Ortega kid and she's actually pretty based. I just wish there there was a more coherent story around the antics, I expected the movie to be insane but it needed somewhere to focus that insanity.
