Hello and welcome to Part 3 of my build for the re-released Tamiya Subaru Brat on the updated ORV chassis. In this video I'll be tackling the Lexan (polycarbonate) body. There is also a hard body included in the kit and I'll be doing that in Part 4. So this body turned out to be a bit floppy and wobbled all over the place! Stay tuned to see my solution. Not exactly box-art but I hope you like it!.
I hope to add a few tips along the way!
About the Tamiya Subaru Brat 1/10 scale RC model
Tamiya brings back another R/C classic with this Subaru BRAT. Longtime fans will once again experience the nostalgia of their childhood and beginners can enjoy the easy operation of this colorful off-road truck.

About the Subaru BRAT
The Bi-drive Recreational All-terrain Transporter was created by Subaru in the late 1970’s from their earlier 4WD station wagon model for the US market. Powered by a flat-four engine ranging from 1.6 to 1.8 liters in displacement, this pickup had the unique feature of having jump seats welded to the truck bed, which allowed it to be imported as a car instead of a truck. One of the car’s more famous owners was former US President Ronald Reagan, whose red BRAT is restored and displayed at his former residence in California.

I love that green! Looks great on the old Sub, and with a good selection of green stickers, and out in the sunlight, awesome! Yeah, that is a very flexible body, that... Good job getting it sturdied up nicely, I'm sure it'll look alright in the dirt, in slow motion, even.

Thanks, Mads! Yeah, I was going to do it PS-16 Subaru Blue, but then saw the half tin of green and thought I'd be a bit different! I'm chuffed with the results, not bad for a basher shell! Oh, you know me too well, definitely going for some slomo footage of this one! Cheers! 😎👌👍

Looks nice, the flex was never an issue as rolled ours a lot and never split it. But its a bonus body. The ABS hard body is in another class.

Hiya mate. First of all, fnarr, fnarr obviously for your title 😂 Anyway, looks brilliant. The side bumpers came out super sharp. You never get them that good with a brush. Love the green and the stickers look really good. With the body I just left mine all floppy although it could probably do with a bit of Gorilla tape. Hasn't broken yet. Oh yeah those window stickers never stay stuck in the corners. Top work Mark. You can give it a blast now 😁👍

Hiya Pete, yes I thought you'd like the title, actually it was just for our little WA group! 🤣 I'm getting better at that cutting the protective film malarkey and the results are pretty good! Yes, I do remember you having a floppy one and not bothering to stiffen it up! 😅 Maybe mine will crack under pressure due to the additional stiffeners! Looking forward to that first run now. I know this is a year old now but thought I would share this tip for anyone new. The best way I have found to apply decals is to treat them like water slides. Remove the backing and dunk them in soppy water and then place them on the body then hit them with a hairdryer on low heat. The heat will give them more flexibility and soften the decal so it conforms better. Have been doing this since 97 on all my tamiya models hope this helps anyone.

Hi there Mark, that is a very beautiful green, very vibrant,even though you had a few decal challenges, still came out looking great, that your experience hands shining through 😊😊. I did my Brat Lexan shell the hard way, masking and spraying the inside for the details of the black trim around the body and window areas 🙇🏻‍♂️🖐️🙇🏻‍♂️. All the very best to you and the family 😊

Great looking body Mark. This inside/outside method's great. I just tested it on two bodies. I have somehow the feeling, väyou get sharper corners between the colours by painting outside

Hi Mikael! Thank you kind Sir! I think dirt getting in is inevitable! At least it'll get a lot of use and definitely in some dirt. Oh yes it was too wobbly even for my liking! Hi Mark, Nice green paint job. Like your sponsor decals, like a real race team. GoPro gives you equipment?? The lexan is floppy. The tape also stops the body from cracking apart when bashing and crashing 👍🏾

Looks great brother... But I know what you mean by flimsy, my Opel body was so thin in the rockers and as I cut on the line, my scissors kept going and cut upwards a bit. However, I don't mind some flex, I rather have a body flex than tear. As for tearing a sticker, I think we all been there at some point.... It just happened to me also (not the first time & won't be the last time). I'm also dealing with Carpal Tunnel in my right hand and it's affecting what I do.... it's been about a month now. ATB my friend to One & All!!!!!

I think there are Tamiya stickers made of different grade plastic as some seem to bend and stretch while others RIP!!! A WIBBLY WOBBLY BODY!! 🤣 😂 So then Mark, do you prefer a hard one or a floppy one?? 🤔 😉 🤣 That turned out delightful mate, love the colour - is that top force green? Those window decals looked a real pain, I could forsee dust getting behind there dispite how well you layed them down. You done really well getting a finish that good with just half a tin. I haven't got a Bratt, but obviously the same hard shell as the Mud blaster..... a gorgeous hard one, but I did find some of the finer detailing a challenge to paint, but once done it looks 'kin awesome! Very good idea on Tamiya' s part to supply both a hard and floppy body (I can't help but smirk!) 😏..... I find it so hard to drive vehicles with a hard shell, knowing fully well it's guna end up getting destroyed after all that time and effort that's gone into it! So this concept works a treat! Looking forward to seeing you rag this one about with Rob in the not too distant future bud! 😊 👍 👍 👍 👍 P. S Finally after 3 years of searching I've managed to bag a Tamiya Rover Mini cooper brand new unbuilt kit this weekend!!!! Your videos with those mini's looked such fun, and I've never built/run a front wheel drive before! 😊

You know I prefer a hard one mate! Nobody wants a floppy body! Yeah I think it's the same green as the boxart Top Force. Very vibrant! I was lucky that there was just enough paint to do the job. The silver backing helped though. I'm not looking forward to the hard body. Cross your fingers for me!!! Wow that Mini Cooper was a real score! Definitely another fun Tamiya, I know you'll love it! Is that the same green you used on your Racing Fighter? I actually went with Absima Metallic Blue (50ml more in the can and a quid cheaper than Tamiya) on mine and you are right, the daylight really makes all the difference to the colour. I won't be putting any stickers (decals) on it because I just don't like the look of them. Parts bag A is done. Tomorrow parts bag B and my favourite bit of a build - the diff and gearbox. 😁

Hi Nick - no the green on the Racing Fighter was a fluorescent Absima green, I used their paints for the same reason as you! I have also used that blue and it's a lovely colour. I think your buggy will look fine without the stickers, always good to be different, too! Enjoy the diff and gearbox build! 😉👍

Hello on the mitsubishi shell you painted red do you get that part to make it fit the tt02 in the standard tto2 chassis kits or only the chassis you used in your brilliant video??

I have no issues with my 2 poly shells or my hard shell. You can use the lunchbox steering axles in place of a battery end cap to use 8.4v nimh battery. My brand new brat chassis utterly failed before its first run out multiple failures on the chassis blamed in the end on me??? Really wtf?

Good to know your Lexan bodies were OK! Nice info as always from you. Wow your chassis failed? What the hell went wrong? The only issue I had was the front axle falling apart on the second run!

@@MarkBryanRC Tamiya UK said using blue loctite melted the chassis points to failure IE my fault for using blue loctite in the build. Problem being I do not own any blue loctite and wouldn't use on plastic if I did.
