Can we spare a moment to thank responsible magnet fishers everywhere in the UK for cleaning up our waterways and contributing to museums and historical knowledge. Few hobbies can claim to be so socially beneficial. (I'm not a magnet fisher, but they have my respect.) 🇬🇧
Hi, amazing what you can find from what people chuck in the rivers...more importantly you guys with your hobby provide an invaluable service clearing up Britain's waterways...well done! Take care...
Four police turn up to look at a revolver that will never work again, my mate gets robbed and they’re not interested. It’s fun watching the magnet fishers but it had to be said
@@paulhiggins6024 And who is to blame for the changes over the last few years? Those people who are happy to attack, stab or shoot police officers or anyone else who gets in their way. The fact we have to provide officers with body armour as standard, and in some cases, firearms, is a sad state of affairs. Compared to many police forces around the world, UK police are quite subdued in their appearance and attitude.
If you'd actually listened, you'd have heard that the first two officers were there looking for someone else, not for the gun. And as they weren't firearms officers, sensibly, they're not allowed to deal with firearms. So that's TWO officers for the gun, not four. Your mate got robbed? Police will have taken a statement, descriptions and details of any property stolen. Unless he is being attacked or physically threatened, or an intruder is in his house, it's hardly an emergency. Seems you've just got personal issues with the police. 🙄
@@daves4026 Spot on... apart from the fact he's wrong. Only two officers for the gun, because the first two were there on other business, and were asked to help. As a rule, only firearms officers are allowed to deal with firearms, whether they may or may not be functional. As for his mates supposed "robbery", it clearly wasn't a situation requiring immediate response. I bet they spoke to an officer, got a crime number and he gave them all the details he could. Yet this muppet thinks they should immediately send out a dozen officers to look explicitly for stolen property.
You people seem to do so well , what with guns and daggers , and prompt visits from the police. I magnet fish here in Canada but dont reallly find much. I love watching your crew as there is so much nonsense , you all get along so well. Thank you Nigel for all the laffs .Stu from Canada......
Is that like a proper operating canal for narrow boats ?, I've only just got into those videos but that style of travel seems so peaceful. So a lump of metal that used to be a gun is of interest to police, but the detonation head of a military shell is ok, you have the oddest police, but so chill.
Firearms Officer "Ahh the hammers missing". It was designed that way by Enfield, At least my firearms training was a lot more in depth when I was a CTFO.
You are lucky to get police to turn up if you get your car or bike stolen. Next time I’ll stand by a canal with some rope , get the police there and then get them to look at a crime.
thing is, what can a unifrom PC do. Circulate your car? Same with burglaries - any evidence will be forensic and normal PCs are not trained to collect it and not enough SOCOs
Also, I read that the rise of magnet fising over the last 5 years has led to an over 900% increase in the callouts for the bomb disposal squads. I'm not discouraging it, I just thought it fascinating the amount of crazy stuff in our canals.
Very recently, my brother who is a metal detectorist (also in Northants) pulled out a grenade from underneath a hedgerow. Yes, police and bomb disposal came out to that too.
Too bad you can’t keep them when they are in operable like that you’re in the USA we just keep them clean them up hanging on the wall, I have several that I could not get the serial numbers off of so I just kept them for souvenirs
Sheffield canal has been magnet fished now more than it has been coarse fished. More magnet men than anglers. Stuff dragged out, left on the bank, lobbed back in, dragged back out.......a shooting by the other team happened, gun apparently thrown in canal at Broughton Lane, so police came with divers, looking for a dumped car and a gun......the day before that stretch was magnet fished to death, I saw all these police divers bobbing about and thought good luck.......they found nothing but a trolley and a DVLA wheel clamp!
Tell the officers to call an expert on British military fire arms (me) because you have a webley .445 first manufactured for WW1. And Wembley carried on with manufacture for the services unti 1970 with different models. The .45 acp was designed off the .445 round and is still in use.
Some "expert"! It's ".455", "Webley" (correct spelling) ceased production of .455 MkVI revolvers well before the 1970's. The .45 ACP has nothing, I repeat, nothing to do with any .45 Adams or .455 Webley pistol cartridges. It assume you didn't have your "expert" hat on when you posted this pish!
@@indigohammer5732 The Webly 45 auto (not the Fosbery) was an interesting weapon with a slightly strange case, and then there were the American revolvers made to use the 45 ACP round.
U got some cool finds , such a shame you can't keep keep the guns cuz they're obviously dumped in the river cuz they've probably been used in a crime possibly?? But the age of that gun would make a nice piece to put on the wall after cleaning up.
Did you turn that "fuse" thingie to police? Be carefully with that if you still have it. It could detonate. It's old but there is always possibility for danger.
Strange as how the cops will confiscate pistols & other firearms But, not anything that has a potential sharp edge to it ( knives or swords ceromonial or not) i just simply don't get it. The way i see it a sharp edged potential weapon is more of a threat to a person than a crudd clogged firearm. ISN'T IT 🤔🤔🤔🤔 I really dont understand why they confiscate crudd clogged firearms not ever likely to fire ever again & yet a sharp edged sword or knife can still do a great deal of harm or 💀 to someone even with a pile of crudd stuck to it. The law has gone WACKO!!! mind you have they ever been sain NO!!!!
If the police cannot connect to crime, really old, they should give it back so you can put on a wall, the officers were very nice. Not a fan of guns, but love history and if it cannot hurt anyone, why not register at station and give it back to finder. You found some of the coolest things. What did they do with the bomb. Have to say what a great bunch of people, so much fun. Do you ever think, you will empty this canal of rubbish, you have fun and clean up the waters, magnet fishing is great
the biggest question for me is how they ended up there..........Its like someone found a WWI machine gun in the canal at Rotherham.........who threw that in and why?
An awful lot of stuff came back with soldiers in both wars and ended up being dumped in rivers and canals when they realised what they had done (or in my dad's case, when his mum found out- lol)
JFC I thought it was just American police who carried around absurd amounts of equipment, looks like UK cops are doing it too. They look like human magnets that all kinds of gizmos are stuck to, LOL
Wow! I'm amazed at all the equipment the policemen have on their vests. It's a wonder they can run. I don't think I've ever seen them with that many instruments. Praises to our police force all over the world for their tremendous contribution to our lives. Oh yes, Nigel fantastic finds! Congratulations 👏🎉. 🌻🐕🥰🇺🇸
I don't know if you have any experience of dealing with the british police, but the show they put on and the reality of their effectiveness are two different things I can assure you. British police no longer prioritise burglary, or home intrusion, but if you happen to have a non PC sticker on your car window, then your likely to be pulled over, that's the reality I'm afraid.
@Robert Stallard I wish I could have more faith in the police, the whole emphasis is wrong, we recruit people who have a degree, fine, that doesn't make them an effective police officer. My impression is, a lot of police officers are incapable of policing the streets, they are not suited to it physically and psychologically.
@Robert Stallard cheers..having attended various in past before going onto other roles, I think that what a uniform officer can do is still pretty limited esp with time pressures. We often had to wait for uniform presence to go with us
Good magnets start from around £60 right up to £370. It all depends on your budget and how big you wanna go. Check out www.onlinemagnets.co.uk they have a great range. Use the discount code NORTHANTS10 for 10% off your order. I personally use the 360 degree magnets for there all round magnetism.
With a revolver in that condition I'm not sure you need to hand it in as it's not going to be remotely servicable, you can buy similar war relics dug from battlefields with no licence required. You would need to get a official confirmation that's all. Maybe insist that the police hand it back after they have examined it? They might be using it to boost up their gun seizure figures at your expense.
Legally that's a matter of age, calibre (or cartridge/non-cartridge) rather than condition. Since it appears to be a cartridge firearm it would have to be an obsolete calibre to keep it as-is (without, eg, sec 7 licence). If it's Second World War British then it's probably not obsolete calibre. Could still ask for it "back" to be deactivated or if it has any sale value, but it would have to go to a firearms dealer rather than the finder.
@@jamietaylor5570 I looked into it further and these relics do have a deactivation certificate so the find would have to go through an RFD then then the proof house even if nothing is done to it mechanically. Maybe possible but costly.
@@snowflakemelter1172 Maybe. Current UK deact standard brought in a year or two ago is very stringent so difficult to imagine no changes unless pressure-bearing parts already have the requisite cuts/breaks/holes etc.
@@stevef8606, the reason I asked is, the cop put one glove on, but opened the bag by putting his bare hand inside; seemed to negate the use of the glove.
Not Police anymore. They are militarized law enforcers. England has gotten closer to a Totalitarian government with the citizens unarmed. If some power crazed ruler decides to do away with Parliament, then there you go.
These police authorized, dredging, activities here for old weapons &/or ordnance are going on along the canal at the old Royal Ordnance Depot at “Weedon Bec” in Northamptonshire near Daventry in the south Midlands that had been used by the Army, the Ordnance Board & the War Office (One of the three services departments along with the Admiralty & Air Ministry that were the forerunners of the current MOD in the UK 🇬🇧 before their amalgamation in 1964), since this important national defence facility was built in 1805-06 during the Napoleonic War & used extensively throughout the wars & conflicts of the 19th Century as well as both of the World Wars until the 1960s. The canal there is an offshoot or cutting, some 3 to 4 miles distance from the Grand Union Canal that had been opened some 10 years previously in 1796. It is also quite close to the River Nene & the spot had been originally, strategically chosen for its close proximity to British inland waterways network, the Motorways or Interstate Highways of Georgian, Regency & early-Victorian England, & also midway between both the London & Birmingham/West Midlands industrial & prime armament producing areas in the UK 🇬🇧, prior to the advent of the Railways & which directly led to their (Canals) subsequent economic-eclipse in the 1830s & 40s.
Not according to USA magnet fishing channels! The USA, in general are allowed guns, so why would they be thrown away? In the UK, we aren’t generally allowed handguns, that’s why they get thrown away. BTW, this is his 89th gun find of the year.
@@johnnunn8688 Because the gun would have been used in a murder . That's why they are heaved in a river fast so the weapon cannot be found on them thus cops can't do a balstics test . In major cities in the usa sometimes there are (usually gang related) easily 12 gun murders a week.
They normally leave it there in a pile!! 😡 our company cuts the grass on canals across the UK, our machinery gets damaged by all the rubbish they leave behind hidden in the grass, costs us thousands of pounds a week in repairs….🤬
@@cfbm125 that's no good. It's a shame the magnet fishing people can't take it somewhere to dump for free. Then I guess everyone would say they got their rubbish out the river
@@toddthomas3226 They can take it to the tip for free, most of it they probably take to a metal recycling yard that will pay them for it based on weight
Don't they look ridiculous with all that kit stuck to their vests! No wonder they never respond to proper crime, they'd never be able to catch anyone weighed down with all that rubbish.
US police would 1st handcuff you. Ask if you have a permit. Then ask what you are doing. Call 20 other cops. Then finally let you go after a few hours.
When my father was in Europe in WW2 ended up with three pistols and had to throw a Luger and a 1911 Colt45 into a canal due to a colleague of his shot a officer
