Mike, cq cq cq. We think your April's fools lasted long enough. You do not understand how much your channel meant to us. I myself, thanks to the motivation you gave us, fixed many radios and fell back in love with my old hobby. Come on man
Would love to see Mike continue in making more videos. As a tech of nearly 35 years, Mike's videos are frickin awesome especially to those of us who don't have lots of experience repairing RF gear. Mike, heard you got your Extra class licence & may you always be really well & truly hope that comments like mine inspire you to come back even if your repairing completely different gear other than CBs
@@spikey911usa thanks so much for the update. If you ever speak to him please send him our huge regards. He was attracting a lot of deeply unfair criticism from some which I believe who were jealous of his success & methodologies. With vintage radio gear especially over 30 years old it pays in the long run to replace the electrolytics as if they leak (which they usually do), one spends ages repairing eaten up PCB tracks. Many less experienced techs criticised Mike for that practice which for old school techs like me I feel is a cheap copout as sure you can only replace the faulty components but in the long run you're not really doing customers any favour as electrolytics will leak & they'll spend magnitudes more in repairs if its even salvageable at that stage. Been a tech & engineer for > 30 years & if I was rich enough, I'd be proud to have Mike on my repair team as I love his no bs approach, he definitely knows his stuff & I as a real world tech I know the dude oozes super quality plus plus like Peter @ TRX bench
"Mike passed away from complications from COVID-19 in August 2021. His family had a private service and updated his Facebook page, but they didn't have his RU-vid account information to post a message on here, unfortunately." I'm trying to confirm this. Michael A Bialecki, Fairfield, PA.
I have watched this channel over the time it was active and have been through all the videos several times. Always entertained and usually learn something I did not know or forgot about in the electronic hobby. Don't know why he left, but I always stop by to check if he put up something new. At least there is Mr. Carlson's Lab.
Dear Mike, I just wanted to say thank you for keeping five years of awesome RU-vid videos on your channel despite your retirement from that chapter in your life. I just discovered your channel and I don't expect anything new from you as I have five years of catch up with the videos you have already created. I see you are currently active on amateur radio digital modes, so it is good to know that you are enjoying your hobby and have left the thankless world of RU-vidrs behind. 73 and good DX to you. Your legacy will never be equalled!!
he is a live?? for real? how would one be able to check in on him and see if he is making any vids or teaching any others?? he is a good instructor, i would be cool to listen to him some more.

@@JohnUsp interesting, since I found his ham call sign being used to make FT8 digital contacts about a year ago I think. I must have been mistaken though if his Facebook says otherwise. Makes much sense though considering his lack of response. Hopefully the family can access the funds from all his subscriptions! I contributed myself for a while, but then cancelled after seeing that he had moved on to other things.
Mike, I hope you start doing videos again, I have learned so much from watching these, you have such a great talent for repairing radios. I watch these over and over, you've got a great sense of humor and have so much patience in what you do, I feel as though I have much more confidence in myself as far as working on cb radios, I just bought a realistic trc47 radio, with am/ssb, I plan to recap this radio soon, it's in pretty good shape, it's become a part of the family, although I won't use it right now until I replace the electrolytic caps in it first. Thanks Mike for all your time and hard work, hope you come back soon, God bless you!
HOLY CRAP! Just got over Pneumonia and get back online and see this. I felt more horrible than I thought thinking you were seriously shutting the channel down. Enjoy these videos quite a bit! Nice one Mike!
Damn Mike, I thought you were joking about not doing any more videos! I haven’t seen a new one in months. Three months to be exact. I’m tired of watching your old ones and I even built the noise blanket noise generator. I need more videos!🤓
Good morning Mike, I hope this note finds you well! We miss your videos! We sincerely wish you the best, and your world is as perfect as it can be. Your friend Joel.
We miss you Mike! We still check your channel frequently to see if by some miracle, you'll come back to us. Are you still alive? On some other platform? Well, it sucks we lost you. You were one of the best. Maybe some day you'll come back. 😪
This video led us all to believe he was simply rebuilding his bench. Been too long now. I emailed him with words of kindness and encouragement and a month later still no reponse. I'm seriously BUMMED!!!!!! HOPE to high heaven he's doing ok though. PLEASE keep on going here Mike!!!!
One of the biggest thrills that I ever had, this was years ago, was in a shop in Buffalo New York, America, where a tech could fly through cb radio transceivers adn ham band HF rigs and replace mobile antennas in a snap. The guy has a golden touch. Mike here has the Midas touch and a lot of test gear!
@@cmderrx lol.. after a while techs gets tired of the CB community cuz it's nothing but a bunch of don't do this don't do that this guy sucks that guy's a hack.
Learn so much from your videos, Mike. Almost 3 years now, so it's time to come back! Just saw Mr. Gatekeeper (1883GotDown) is back on RU-vid, we're waiting.
Mike hope all is well and that you are having a good summer miss your videos maybe when the weather starts to get crappy you have some time to put up some videos . Always been a fan of your stuff
Had me fooled. I learn so much from your videos, I don’t want it to end. I do understand about rebuilding a bench. I ordered a studio desk and got rack mounts for everything. I love my radio room now.
Hmmm, no posts in two years. I hope you okay. I just discovered your channel recently and enjoy watching your work. I worked in a TV shop during college and a CB repair shop (and more 😉) back in the 80s. It's nice to see someone who isn't a hack who does CB repair. 73, my friend
Got a question Mike. I want to make a 1/4 wave dipole antenna. I see people making them from 102 whips, but according to a wave calculator, I need closer to 108.5 inches. Do you have a opinion here?
You scared the crap out of me you dog! I was thinking ”Mike’s hanging it up? NOOOOOOO!” I am glad your hanging in there and happy for you on getting the new equipment. It looks like it will make a lot of the tedious parts of radio repair much less grinding (believe me, I have been there, aligning banks of trunking repeaters or an endless stream of customer radios that ”don't talk right”) and gives you the ability to do much more. Congratulations Mike.
Mike I hope you didn’t get in some trouble with the authorities, we all know additional channels and modifications are frowned on. I love your taking the time to show us all how you work through these different problems. It’s quite amazing how much top end equipment you use and still have a time finding the gremlins in these great old radios. I only found your great videos just a few months ago, here in Boston we don’t get any airtime. (No one uses not even truckers on 19) it just faded away. I sold my one of a kind mint Browning markII 4 pcs it was tuned by Nichols just a short time before he passed, like you he would not turn up my system and made a face when I asked him to (peek the watts) but that radio was wonderful for years. Sorry I sold it and only $500 at that. Just last week I picked up a mark III and would of been honored to have it go thru your hands. If you did get put away wish I could fill your canteen. And hope nothing with the weapons happened. I guess just not knowing is the worst part. Hope to see you back on that great bench, what a great day that will be.
All right Mike, you commented on my channel so I know you still out there in the U-verse. I'm almost ready to quit too. Too much time, and too many Karen's.
@@tramdr I saw him over on Defpom's Channel a couple months back too ! Said he was buried in radios. The man gave such a wealth of knowledge. I started at the beginning of his channel when I found it and went in order and got to the end and it was a year after he posted. Maybe just busy but that last video he said newer videos would be coming on that R&S piece... ahh!
Geez, seeing that machine reminded me of the one when i had my heart attack on Tuesday. In on Tuesday surgery on Thursday with an angioplasty and stent put in and out on Friday isn't technology amazing. That test set will really make things so much easier thanks for the update.
Love your channel, however I was listing to mash and I got it figured! You sound like Allen Alda Hawkeye! Got my 520s going 73’s JohnBoyUtah KJ7TBR🇺🇸😎🎙📡
Hope all is well with you, Mike. I just discovered your channel and absolutely love the information you provide. I hope you start making more content soon. Thank you for all you've done so far.
I hope he comes back, or he is in good health. I'm going to see if he transitioned to another platform, but even if he did it seems like he would have said so on here. Most of all I hope he is well.
Congratulations Mike! Nice rig. I can tell you're excited. Good luck with the upgrades to it. With your business, it will be no time that you will be adding to it! Really happy for you and thanks for letting us see what you do!
Mike I hope you’re doing well. Thanks for all the help. I’ve got a new job and though I’ve soldered a lot in my career I keep burning the connectors I’m building because I dwell too long or overflow the solder in to the connector. My new boss doesn’t believe in flux. 8-10ga cable in to qs8 and dt60 ish connectors. Hako tc solder station is set at 450 F I’m going to keep experimenting with my swell time and amount of solder pre filling the cups. Wish me luck. Stay safe be cool. Don’t let the smoke out.
Pretty rude to just dump over 20K subscribers without a comment (unless we were supposed to glean it from this confusing video). I can understand getting frustrated with trolls, having to take all the time to make the videos and deal with YT. I can see abandoning YT due to other commitments. However, that doesn't justify this style of departure (which I have seen before). Doc
Disagree. You should take the fact that you can see someone else's work for free as a gesture of courtesy. If that someone ceases to make videos, accept the fact and move on. RU-vidr is not a profession, and people have their own lives.
I'm guessing that probably bigger and better things come about with Mikes purchasing of new equipment he has now and the time factor of dealing with YT videos is just not there now. Or there's a good possibility the man has passed on????
I was watching the Channel King vid and ran across your good bye. 3 years ago, but you did some fine work Mike. Hope some day you decide to come back. Whatever you do, wish you peace and prosperity...73s.
Mike mentioned Motorola, DMR!! + with new toy. I say was approached by some big comms companies for some serious $$$ sub contract work. Best endeavours and thanks for leaving this site open.
So, I have an Alinco DX-70 that has never had anything but good things. Always properly matched antennas, has lived in a clean environment, etc. Suddenly it stopped transmitting. No reason. Took it to my local radio shop, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it, and went so far as to clean all the little coax connections, using that little brush thingy. I even tried a different microphone, but even just jumping the PTT at the connecter and nothing happens. It receives great, as usual. Inside it's immaculate. Any ideas?
I can honestly say you got me at first. I was in such disbelief that i forgot to look at the comments at first lol mike mike hes our man if he cant teach us, RU-vid is pointless
I sent him an email a couple of years ago about getting a lafayette Telesat SSB-140 re-capped and alined but I never heard back from Mike. I did love watching his videos.
Hi Mike. I love your videos, probably because you sound like you are from SW PA! I noticed there have not been anymore since your "April fools Day" Video. I hope you are OK and Covid Free! Maybe when you get a chance, you could let us know how you are doing?
Mike I have a Jukebox Classic which really a nice Jukebox however there a little problem it go to highest setting on volume done some component checks found 3 items change these it was working great and two days later it started again. Would be great if you could point in a direction I could check please.
a great radio. had one and loved it. it got stolen. i loaned it to a buddy and he told me it got stolen. he is gone now so i have to believe he told me the truth. once again. one of the best Cb's made. mine was made in Japan and that even made it better.
Hi Mike hope you are well , just popped up to say hi from Spain . I hope you comeback to do more videos. But what ever have a good life and thanks for your past videos.
Two emails sent and never a response. I moved on to another tech at this point. Mike seems to be retired (maybe?) or just overwhelmed with work and messages. Its unfortunate... good luck getting in touch with him. I gave up long ago. :/
I thought that was bullshit. Reinvesting in more equipment is always a good idea. And if you're reinvesting in new equipment it means you ain't going nowhere. I always enjoy yer videos. That is one snazzy piece of equipment.
CQ CQ MIKE!!! WE NEED YOU!!! Thank you for the content.. I just recently discovered your channel, and brother let me tell ya, there are NOT many good repair people left around, I’VE SEEN LOT OF HACK SHOPS HAVE SPRUNG UP…. I Just bought a new Present Lincoln II Plus off Amazon - and I need to peak and tune for my Freightliner - I’m starting to seriously consider attempting to do some of the work myself… ALSO I have “few” other radios sitting in my closet that needs to be repaired… IF your still in business, PLEASE PLEASE drop a line.. 73 brother KD2PKN
Hi Mike. I found Arugs 5000DX CB with AM FM SSB and CW. Having issue founding service information for it. Do you maybe know what is the board in it has to be from some other radio. Thanks in advance B
I been watching Mikes Videos and i love how he breaks things down. So i come to what other videos he has up and hasn't uploaded a video in over a year. Well not sure whats going on. I cant wait for more videos. Thanks Mike for what you have uploaded.
Oh you got me too !! I thought you may have got some serious negativity comments and you packed it in ! So glad you stayed on AND improved what you used equipment wise . What you had was great !! Will be waiting for your new postings !! Thanks again !
Hi Mike. Love the videos they are very informative and keep me wanting more! Out of curiosity how does one get ahold of you to do an alignment? I have a Galaxy DX959. I’m capable of doing the clarifier lock but it’s the work after I can’t do. So I’m looking for someone who isn’t a hack to help me out. Looking forward to hear from you!
I recently found Mikes channel and I am saddened to learn he is no longer making videos. Mike thank you for everything you have done to help, educate and entertain so many people. It is a blessing to have found your channel and I/we all hope to hear you again soon. I know it's alot of hard tedious work to make these videos but when the time is right and you enjoy making them again, know alot of good smart people want to see some new content. Thank you Mike.
Knowing the cost, it's sorta like seeing a new car sitting on your workbench. I am now officially suffering from bench envy. Thanks a lot Mike. You lucky dog.
Sweet instrument, a bit out of my price range though :) Most of my gear is 80's through 2000's HP test gear (HP 8644A, 5371A, 3325A, 71110C, etc..). All of which is now controlled via a HPIB controller so I can do automated measurement set ups.
