@@VladQuake yup. They went against practicality. I think hitbox did as well. Arcade sticks are gigantic cause they house the joystick. No joystick, no need for giant box to house the insde of a keyboard
I emailed them yesterday and they are currently in stock. That might change soon though because of this video. Maybe if you order one choose some non-default colors and switches to avoid low stock options.
The micro is the way to go, the MPress just has weird buttons IMO they don’t feel like tactical presses. The micro has the true feel of button presses. The concave of the micro would be a turn off for people but they are actually working on making buttons for that purpose. Best 200 I spent IMO
This shop is right near my apartment! I wish I'd known about this beautiful device earlier so I could have ordered one from em before they went out of stock! The brilliant and devoted folks at Paradise Arcade are nothing if not a pillar of the Minnesota FGC.
I remember toying around with this at a vendor's booth at evo 2019. So cool to see it again and your review of it. It's not for me over a traditional stick but I'm glad you like it
Damn I been so out of the loop I hadn’t realized they finally brought this out. Looks like a must-cop...btw I really like the outro music on your vids now.
They have a version with hot swappable switches? I got mine in like the second wave after release. But I was pretty sure all versions were soldered ones. Ooo nice just looked and they did add Hotswap as an option and alot of colors
I've always wanted one of these!! The low tone sound is making me want to try it. As a hitbox user though, I'm not a huge fan of the lack of wrist space
" Do you see how the light is reflecting?....Everytime you look at it from a slightly different angle you see the light reflecting AT A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT SPEED and angle....." - Now I know why I will never be good in fighting games, you have to be able to see as fast as speed of light-.-
I use a Hitbox modded Quanba Obsidian, and have been planning to build a custom button box for a while. This looks amazing! Would love to hear more about those "swivel extenders" (9:43) though, as the Obsidian has trained me to have somewhat of a wide stance while playing.
they could so easily make it a couple inches less wide, i feel. snackbox micro seems to be more ergonomic because your wrists aren't resting on it. Plus you'd be able to fit it easier in a backpack.
Dang, I only wish ergonomic controllers like these can be made for the mixbox layout. You really dont see many mixbox type controllers out in the market right now and it's quite a shame. :/
Mixbox layout will have its day you’ll see :) these niche enthusiast products take time but people discover their benefits eventually and the markets grow from there
That's one thing they didn't think about, the natural curvature of the hands and the lowering of the button for the little finger on the right hand. I'm a game-pad guy though, these hit-boxes are too much mental strain.
This would be really cool with some sort of removable joystick/more thickness for people who like joysticks more. Especially for people who travel frequently.
ive been getting into keyboard building, and i didnt getcwhy no ones done this yet, itd be so easy to make a simple pcb for a hitbox with hotswap sockets like they do with keyboards
how did you get screw ons on a qanba obsidian ( i have the pearl) I've wanted to put screw ons in my qanba but its kinda tricky to get the triangle buttons
I'm curious... if you want to play games with as little pain and best ergos as possible, have you ever considered a split hitbox controller? Put the left and right hand each at about a 30 degree angle off the desk? A big issue concerning ergonomics and long term damage to the hands and wrists is the pronation itself. Whenever you face your palms downwards, it causes the radius and ulna in the forearm to cross over each other compressing the nerves and tendons in between. While humans can do this motion, it's not natural, and we were never meant to do it for long periods. I know ergonomic split keyboards have been a hard sell up to this point because we're talking usually over 80 keys and a lot of muscle memory having to be relearned... but for a hitbox arcade controller, it may not be hard at all to transition to. Arcade sticks probably wouldn't work at an angle considering gravity would put more weight on one switch over the others, but for the hitbox layout, I cannot think of any downsides.
I use the obsidian right now but I'm interested in getting into these flat button boxes since i play on a laptop and itd be sick if i had a fully portable setup with 2 of those types of controllers and my laptop that I can just pop up anywhere to throw hands with people.
@@chronology556 yes unfortunately shipping has become a very expensive aspect of this business. The cost of shipping is purely based on provider rates, we do charge extra for shipping. We are working with DHL and others to reduce costs, but we have had a lot of problems with untracked international packages being lost or becoming fraud cases.
One negative is the price...$225? You can get a gaming mechanical keyboard, a gaming mouse, and a copy of Tekken, SF, UNIST, with all DLC on Steam for the same price.
I'd rather have super clicky buttons than quiet buttons. I like to have a loud sound and a clicky feel. Maybe thats my smash background using gamecube controller.
@@shiwanmi unstabilized buttons got 2 point to consider (can't call it "problems" bc it's very subjective) - 1) different force point on cap give you different timing and feedback (differ depends and probably very small, but if you can feel it than it may be a realy big problem), so if you move your hands over a lot it will give you range of outcome. Again, it's very subjective, for me it is not a big problem but it is annoying to get used to device ranges and if you need to switch you lose habits and start over again 2) my fingers short, heavy and strong (never got any problems with different force actuation on any switches, for me they are kinda the same bc my fingers just kill it :D), so if cap unstable I can easily rip it off button. Ofc it's more keyboard problem bc there is probably no way to rip it off on that hitbox, but kinda concerned if it can be jammed or smthg. Currently got keyboard with unstable af spacebar (HyperX Alloy Origins Core) - great keyboard but man, I just can't play DJMax with my favorite layout with red buttons on thumbs spacebar and right alt, space got jammed or even lose cap in intense beatmap :D Also got unstabilized buttons on my stick before moding it, RAP4 Kai, it's was (dunno how it now) main differents between sanwa and hori buttons - sanwa stabilized, hori not. The difference is much less than on the keyboard but sanwa just feel better IMHO, but not like it was a big change. But after that I moved to custom hitbox with 24 button and with smaller buttons I can't imagine if they weren't stabilized - hitting same spot on small buttons waaay harder, especially when arcade caps do not have a recess like keyboards. Anyway, that of course you need to test it yourself to say for sure, I'll just got some other queston about some solutions on this hitbox (Up is 30mm usually to use both hands thumbs and switch between, here all buttons same size; a bit strange layout too). Although of course this size captivates incredibly, and it's look awesome!
@@catnekokot Thanks for satisfying my curiosity! Isn't it wild how seemingly tiny changes can affect how you play tremendously? I'm obsessive compulsive so I might really notice if there's a difference in stability (I really only use my Obsidian Hitbox and don't switch often). What do you think about the Shiokenstar hitbox layout (all 30mm buttons except directional buttons)?
@@shiwanmi yeah, before I was think that things like this is minor, but I just didn't understand that even if I do not feel a problem, it still can hit strongly on the performance Never tried one, but I think for me it would be almost same bc I never had any problems with right hand on my RAP4, and also almost didn't use nor double tap (short fingers not fast enough with that, but instead I can just smack 2 times normaly with same speed or even faster :D ) nor right hand movement like jump with right (the only thing maybe 360, but after some training I can freely do it with full shortcut on left) I recently tried to play the stick after 3 days GG beta on hitbox and realized that I lost the last comfort on the stick, so the way back doesn't even entice anymore! qcf/qcb before was more comfort on stick, but now even this is gone
Really nice controller. How would you compare the hitbox to an usual arcade stick in terms of adaptability? I play with stick or pad, depending on the game, but I always thought about trying a hitbox.
@@NihongoGamer its on the Gamo2 store and called the taosoller, all their stuff is well-built, you use the emulator seaurchin for chun, but it can also play other games
So my take away here is that I should get some short shorts and start shaving my legs for maximum lap stability? But seriously, thanks for covering that issue. I know I've asked many questions about weird stuff like that in the past! And continuing that tradition, how do those flat topped buttons feel for mash from mk. to mp. with your thumb?
@@NihongoGamer Sliding the thumb from a K button to a P button. Sort of like sliding to mash out Hundred Hand Slap or Lightning Legs, but sliding vertical instead of horizontally. I use it for shield-dashing in Castlevania Symphony of the Night, if you're familiar with speedrun tech for that game.
I wish I was more interested in this a year ago so I could of had one now to play with. They are sold out at the moment. I really want one to try because this looks more of the size that I prefer since I can lay my hand down just a a bit on it compared to the Snack Box or whatever it’s called.
@@tremorchrist84 😱 no way! Ar...cade?...Shoc...k? would you mind sending me a link please. I'm a caveman when it comes to this kind of stuff. Thank You So Much
Great review, it inspired me to buy one. :) Silent red mx, hot swap, and the new Ahi LED kit with clear buttons on white. I would like to hear how ergo you feel the press is after playing a couple of months. I do hope Paradise Arcade comes out with a WASD key version and adds a turbo button, I would buy another one :)
Is there or will there be options for non slip pads officially? You did state that it won't really be a problem for it to slip around due to no moving parts but for the few that play at an angle.Other then that, will definitely keep an eye on this controller. I love the low profile of it too!
Haven’t heard about non-slip pads as an official option but fortunately it’s very inexpensive to add yourself. Good point about people who like to play with the controller tilted at an angle.
If you’ve ever played FPS games on a keyboard it’s similar. It’ll take maybe a week to adjust if U play on stick usually but after that it becomes very natural
