The DSTEC Original Syn came out in 1999. A 3 VCO midi controlled monosynth. Classic monosynth architecture with a few tricks.. Demo uses the DSI Tempest for Drums and a simple bass note from the SE1. The main sequenc is the DSTEC. Kawai K5000s for pad. Enjoy!

Great video Dave. I remember SOS or FM magazine doing an article ahead of the OS1’s release, pitting it against the Waldorf Pulse and a 303 clone of some sort. They raved about this and on the strength of it, I bought one. I still have it now and won’t sell it. It sounds full and beautiful in tone.. one of my best music purchases over the years.

Nice to see that Deep Bass Nine sitting there in your rack as well, as it was made by roughly the same people as the OS-1, this is the place it belongs 👍

I did the built in demo for the deep bass nine the night before the frankfurt messe. I was there with John Molloy who was involved with dstec and we consulted about the design of the original syn. Also made the samples for the Emu Orbit with John. Alas he passed away. A great man.

I have one of these and never knew it could be controlled by CC! - Do you have the list of controllers by any chance? Was thinking of selling it too as I can't stand the 1 knob interface but not now! It does sound lovely, great oscillators with the unique PW LFO's and x-mod.

I think it is in the manual, I’ll look today. Setting up a vst editor would be great.

AWESOME! Reminds me of the Waldorf Pulse I had back in the 90s. You mentioned each of the 3 oscillators could have their own "Chorus" (PWM) rate - would be cool to hear what 3 oscillators with different rates sounds like. Keep the videos coming! Just turn off the auto focus, please.
