I think the bodged surgery he had was a contributing factor in addition to his weird obsession with being young too. Needless to say, I don't know why it's a matter either way as it's beyond your control so just get over it and carry on with your life. Simple.

It's not simple, at all. People measure other people by how they look. Are you too fat? Too skinny? Are you ugly or pretty? If people with this condition didn't wear make-up or receive the treatments to even their skin tone they would get stared at everytime they went in public, teased and bullied, have people coming up asking if they have a disease etc. That has psychological effect. I have social anxiety and I can't imagine how I would go about my day to day with this condition. Michael was ridiculed his entire life, is still ridiculed as evidenced by the abundance of assholes all over the internet including a few in this very thread, and even though it was proven that he did, in fact, have vitiligo there are still people who would rather believe he bleached, because it makes for a better story. As evidenced by Michael, people don't care whether it's in your control or not. Humans can preach 'It's what's inside that matters' however much they want but the truth is that humans are incredibly superficial. Especially socially. People are going to judge. People are going to be petty and cruel. Try having more compassion.

My cousin has vitiligo and at first she didn't feel comfortable with it so she didn't go to school for almost a week.then one day her friend came over to check on her and she told her not to worry about it and if anyone said anything about it she would beat them up.so she returned to school the next day and she received hundreds of compliments because of how confident she was about it

People around me everyday used to look at me with looks that werent normal and welcoming because I was "special". "Oh it just makes you unique" didn't make me feel any better, it just made me feel like they were just taking pity on me. "Makes you special" meant that I stood out. Standing out above the rest.
