I used to sing this song when I was younger but when my husband died I found the lyrics of the song suited for me, it’s really hard to live alone, yes I have kids but they are all living along with their families abroad and I’m here in the Philippines living by myself, good thing there is social media especially now that the country is going thru this coronavirus pandemic, I can still communicate with my loved ones and that’s a great relief🤗

Such a gorgeous old sad song. I know it from Peggy Lee in around 1972 -- Eydie's version is just outstanding! Love it, though the lyrics are painful to me! I must come back to this site to hear it again though it makes my eyes fill with tears; you NEVER forget a former love, we all love and lose, but we don't forget. She was such a talented singer, great voice, such volume for a small lady!

Weekend is scary when you used to spent it to much with someone you've been living with for so long--and now you are counting hours, days, moments and you just want to make it through and close your eyes and avoid those memories. It reminds me of Mom when Dad passed away. You can feel the sadness, she's harboring without Dad by her side. By simply looking at her, you can sense her loneliness of losing someone who's really dear to her. After year, She followed Dad. She never learned to live alone.

My mother never learned to live alone well either, she tried, but she was raised with 4 siblings and after having us 5 kids around and then more time with Daddy after we were gone, but after decades together, I know it was very hard. She lived alone for 12 more years after Daddy died. Loss through death is always very difficult.

lost my mom and both parents are now gone! Dad loved this song -- now I find myself in the attic at my mom's house going through old memories -- lost is difficult but it's part of the circle of life! It is SO DIFFICULT to lose someone you love, when parents or a spouse or a child dies, when children leave home, when pets die, and especially if you are left alone to face the world by yourself. Memories can only sustain you so far -- keeping very busy in your mind helps a lot to be able to go on living and cope alone. Please never think you are alone in this situation, there ARE people out there just like you as well as others, who can help you cope of you need to, all you have to do is ask! Never give in to dark feeling! Good luck to anyone out there who is lonely and trying to cope -- things will get better. If they don't, see a doctor who may find you have a depression that can be helped with medication.

"It takes too long to learn to live alone." My mom died last 2016. The year where I graduated college and the year I passed my 2 eligibilities. She didn't even got the chance to see me had my licenses, my first job and my first salary. I decided to go and live my own. I moved in and rent an apartment leaving all the memories we had in our house because living there will just make me remember the happy and sad moments we shared. It tears me apart knowing that I no longer see her smile again. It's hard to live alone.

NEVER underestimate anyone's loss unless you've been in the same shoes and even then, their loss can be greater than yours, just depending on how long it has been, or how raw it is.

I973 I was 2nd yr HS almost half a century now when I first heard this hauntingly timeless classic song, soon I love it until now but with tears in my eyes. It was 2 years ago today, that we lost one of the most beautiful singers, the most wonderful entertainer to walk this earth, Mrs. Steve Lawrence: Eydie Gorme. Although she is gone, we can listen to songs and watch videos of her and steve and remember her, and when I do it feels as if she is not gone, that she is here. As a fan I miss her, and I am sure that Steve and David are having a rough day today, but I hope and pray that they will remember the good times. This song is so appropriate and I am sure this is how Steve feels. All her fans miss her, RIP Eydie!
