Good Saturday morning from Ohio. Had a brief shower earlier and we needed it. When Melissa's hungry, don't screw around. Just get 'em on😊😊 Also, I assume you've completely healed up by now. And we all hope that Ed is 100% again. He's a tough old codger. 40 hours of work on your clearing has to have been 40 hours of pure enjoyment for you, hasn't it?? I'll be honest with you in that I envy you your set up. It's a great place to be and I'm happy for your entire family. Enjoy and don't take it or them for granted. Have a good weekend, Ron

40 hours is just the beginning, Mike. You’ll have many, many more before you’re looking at a lush food plot. I cleared 4.5 acres a few years ago to create a food plot for a local landowner. We started cutting on 2-17 and went non-stop. I started planting on 5-1. 23 log truck loads of firewood poles. The good news is that it’s very satisfying work.

I read in the book on the history of the Case brothers who made Case knives that their father, William Case made his money clearing land for people. This was back in the mid 1800's. He was a big fellow, well over 6 feet tall and he and his mule could clear an acre of land in a month. His fee was often that he got what he cleared. He used the timber for lumber and pot ash. Must have made quite a bit doing it because he largely financed his son's venture into knife making. They named the company after him tho he himself was not actually the one who ran the company. But how resourceful is that! I bet he slept good at night lol!

Agree with you Mike that land clearing operations can sure take a lot of time. I have been working areas on my 90acreas since 2006. Initially it was for some house and building sites. Then more road work and preparing for tree planting. I prep a new 2-4 acre tree planting area each year. Pulling old pine stumps and overgrowth material. Some days I can pull 5-6 stumps an hr. Others i may get 2. Throw in weather delays and old tired equipment issues and it makes my hobby tree farming a lifelong gig that I love.

Some time back, you mentioned adding some wood storage bins to the side of the wood yard pavilion. Is that still on the agenda? It seems like that or some other split wood storage option is in order to allow late fall and winter splitting. Perhaps, a storage area and possible fall split wood sales in W.V. Obviously, it would mean running an extra truck and trailer rig from time to time but it would alleviate split wood "over crowding" in the P.A. wood yard and bunker and allow for more continuous fall and winter splitting.

I know what you mean by the time committed in clearing stumps,,,,,, my camp in forest county , in 2012, had a lumber company remove 32 trees from 3/4 of an acre lot. Between. Having a stump grinder by 17 , the rest I had a local bring his backhoe, dug them up and buried where they stood, then had a friend bring his skid loader finalize the leveling and grass seed. Overall, it took countless hours , finally after 10 years, got a yard , almost, with grass!!! I envy you having your own equipment!!!

Hey Mike, what are your thoughts on putting a canopy over the wood bunker? Tall enough to still get the CTL in there and the conveyor as it is.
@MrRackinroll
@MrRackinroll Год назад
No definately nol, the drying process works better if when your drying you are taking out some of the natural oils and stuff which inhibits the rapid drying process. Wet ( rain soaked wood ) drys better if wet wirth rain water. (no not soaked constantly , but wet.)

Hey Mike, I just discovered a new project that might interest you. It's called the Morph eBike by freebeat. Not only does it offer an impressive outdoor riding experience, but it also has a unique indoor recharge feature! Imagine being able to charge your bike while you work out indoors. As for the canopy suggestion, it's definitely worth considering. A tall canopy would still allow the CTL and conveyor to fit inside while providing shelter. Plus, it would protect the wood bunker from weather conditions. Great idea! Keep up the good work!

Just wondering why you would not spread out the ash and mix it in your top soil instead of burying it? Did not seem to have nails and it would be very nutrient rich for the grass you are going to plant.
