I’m a former certified high school football official in the state’s of New York and Arizona. I officiated for 9 years. The caliber of play demonstrated in this game by two high school teams is astonishing. It’s almost staggering to think two high schools could field teams that play to this level. The high school football team I played for in Buffalo, NY 25 years ago had two future NFL draft picks, a third guy who was in the San Francisco 49ers training camp, and a fourth guy who went on to play in the Canadian Football League. These two teams would have beaten us by 60 points.
True, but these HS School teams within the trinity League are Private schools and their Program is ran similar to College. They recruit student/Athletes from all over the state and or country. So yes, Their Talent level is going to be much higher then most
Finally playing again in bigger stadiums, it’s been at Cerritos college for like the last five years or so, also at Fullerton here and there too. Before early mid-2000s they would play at Angel stadium for the championship. If you look it up the years Josh Rosen was that’s last years they were seen doing it at Angel stadium
@@Buddynextdoor_ Bosco and Mater Dei games are always big and even during the season would have there games at Fullerton or Cerritos but back in the day early to mid 2010’s CIF championship games were played at Angel stadium. Just idk what is different now and to finally see them play at an iconic stadium like the rose bowl is great
@@armandobugarin6660 would you go support kids that are not from the community. It was basically football kids parents. Texas gets all community support. That's why Texas high schools build big stadiums.
I’m not even a fan of either team, but I went to the game to just watch some football. The atmosphere was electric and the game was spectacular. Amazing experience for a guy who just wanted to watch.
I'd never even heard of Bosco and would go to their games as something to do after my Friday evening class at Cerritos College. The luxury motorpool and the blowouts made me look them up and I was like, whoa😯
@@drew9453 It's a private school designed for elite athletes! lol Of course they gonna run shit at the top. It'd be nice to see high ranking public schools play them mid season to see how much better they are.
@@Hengel_Andrews What do you mean USC has always recruited Mater Dei heavy Matt Leinart, Matt Barkley, Top 2 recruits in California this year Domani Jones and Raleek Brown and more....
Super solid game... THIS is what high school sports has evolved into. This had the feel of a college rivalry. Competing at a high level. Every single down counted. Right down to the last second. Anybody who's a real fan of football can and will appreciate this. Good to see Bosco get back at them boys. They deserve every bit of the success. One last trip to claim the state now...
What recruiting like a college? Nothing is special about that. LOL these are kids not college athletes, but some of them already look 30 years old. If you’re into that type of shit good for you 🤣
Great game. It was good for the rivalry. MD winning 3 in a row would have been anticlimactic. Bosco stepping up in a great game was good for everyone. Mater Dei is returning 18 starters next year so this was the year to get them. I'm a MD guy but Bosco deserved it. The two top teams in the country and it lived up to it.
Great Game 🤝🏻 Mad respect for both teams. Bosco came more prepared than last time & for Coach Bruce Rollinson, I wish nothing but the best for you. Thank you 💯
Go look at there top 4 teams, they're playing for their division or state championship this weekend and who they're playing like Westlake for their championship the team that is ranked number 64 in the state so they don't have a playoff system, Westlake should be playing North Shore, Duncanville, should be playing Katie or whoever is next in line they don't challenge themselves they rarely play out of state besides Duncanville I don't get their system there I live in Utah top six teams play each other doesn't matter what division they're in,,,for the state
If you’re going to talk, make sure you actually know what you’re talking about instead of spewing bullshit. Texas is in round 4. North Shore vs. Atascocita | Westlake vs Brennan is one side of 6A Division 1. Duncanville vs. Westfield | Lewisville vs. Prosper is the other side of 6A Division 1. Katy vs. C.E. King | Vandegrift vs. Dripping Springs is one side of 6A Division 2. DeSoto | Harker Heights | Southlake Carroll vs. Denton Guyer is the other side of 6A Division 2. 5A , 4A , 3A , 2A and 1A are in their quarterfinals as well. Next week semis. Week after that, State championships.
If Westlake and North Shore win this round, they will meet in the semis. Whoever wins will see Duncanville in the state championship. Most likely Katy will see Guyer, but DeSoto or Carroll might have something to say about that.
Having lived in both Tx and Ca, I know westlake, north shore, Duncanville, SLC, Guyer, etc are super talented teams. They would all be competitive with mission, centennial, Bishop Gorman, and most of the trinity league. Mater Dei and Bosco are both on another level. Westlake is smart to not schedule either team in order to keep their winning streak alive!
@@dudedude949 oh absolutely I would never say our Public Schools could be their top three top four but we will never know that because Texas avoid California for some reason and they avoid Georgia and they avoid Florida, I just wish when they do play these California teams don't play these privates, I would love to see Corona Centennial Mission Viejo Long Beach Poly to play some of these Top Texas teams, you know but I've been looking at Westlake schedule last couple years and it's so weak why are they so rated, when first they don't play out of state as second their division is garbage but they do take care of business they beat the hell out of everybody we'll find out this year right oh by the way I pronounce Mission Viejo top championship in California not these privates that have so much advantage so congrats to Mission Viejo winning state championship,,
That depends on whether or not the team that won initially, makes the proper adjustments for a rematch later in the season. For example, North Shore whipped Atascocita 31-21 last year during their regular season, then again in the state quarterfinals 44-20. Evidently, the winning team decided to work on certain aspects of their game and it paid off.
I was thinking the same thing. Bosco played an almost perfect game and barely won. MD played terrible and still should/could of won by 1 or 2 points easily. MD has so many returners next year. I'm wondering how good Bosco will be next year ?
What a phenomenal game. It's like when both teams collide the most interesting and intriguing game appears like this one. All because of that 2pt bosco stopped, they won.
How well I know the feeling. I went to Santa Ana HS. Back in 68 we took out Anaheim in our Sunset league. We met again in the CIF final. They took us out.
What a game!!! Both sides have great players it was a battle of who makes the big mistakes and who has the ball last. Bosco stopped MD running game that was the big difference . Coach King did an excellent job with his blitz and defensive scheme calls. Bosco knew what plays MD was running on defense there were some small coverage mistakes but either than that it was a great defensive battle by both teams. Mater Dei will have a better team next year . I expect them to be favorites again for a National Championship. Bosco had more seniors and experience this year to take it all but they will Also be returning a good amount of players and be even with Mater Dei . Can’t wait for that battle next year again!
What a thrilling game that was last nite!!! Those kids put on a show!!! MD should have thrown a pass when going for the tie instead of a run esp w/Bosco stacking the line.
Perfect storm 4 SJB, QB played great spread the ball out so much better then the first matchup with all the QB runs I felt, hooked up with #11 on the corner endzone fade I myself called them out on not doing😂 #3 and #18 played very well + MD mistakes the bad PAT and early 3rd Q turnover. Trenches were a stalemate 4 the most part I thought that would favor MD but the bosco defence overall was something else last night yo I have never seen a HS unit with the overall total speed they were moving around at it was insane. All night 0 drop-off, the linemen are already quick but the LBs are literal missiles.... Kids who transferred from cen10 2 SJB just so they could beat MD got the revenge they were seeking lmao
Now you know why Bosco is constantly substituting on defense especially. Sure, I realize some of those substitutions involve putting in edge rushers and DBs on particular downs when they think they'll need them. But a lot of it is to keep their players fresh and hungry. They can, for starters, since they are so deep. But also they want to keep their players fresh, and keep their level high. #27 just DOMINATED that defense.
My son is a 2004 graduate of St. John Bosco. Great school. We have friends who have sons and daughters who attended Mater Dei. Now Bosco is on to the California State Championship 🏈
This damn near was the national championship. Any other high school state championship doesn’t compare to this game. These are easily the 2 top teams in the nation. Great game! Both teams played well.
YOU CRAZY AS HELL, AUSTIN WESTLAKE AND HOUSTON NORTH SHORE OUT OF TEXAS CAN BEAT BOTH OF THESE TEAMS!!! OVERALL IS MORE COMPETITION IN THE STATE OF TEXAS! EVEN A DARK HORSE COULD UPSET YOU BUT IN CALI ITS ALWAYS BOSCO AND MATER DEI NO OTHER COMPETITION, SOMETIMES SERVITE BUT OTHER THAN THAT ITS ALWAYS A TWO TEAM RACE!! ITS LIKE THE BIG TEN, ALWAYS COMES DOWN TO MICHIGAN AND OHIO STATE… SOMETIMES PENN STATE MAKES IT INTERESTING LIKE SERVITE… AND TEXAS 6A PLAYOFFS ARE THE SEC!!!
@@esimpson31828 those Texas teams wouldn’t do shit 😂. The best plays the best in Cali but in Texas you have teams that won’t play any levels of comp until a state championship wtf is that
No one will ever come close, when it's a private school meant for elite players. No matter how high a public school ranks, I don't see it happening. But I would dam sure love to see it! Almost unfair to rank them with public schools
@@judology You're not wrong but it's hard to say against schools who recruit like colleges do. I don't know why North Shore hasn't played anyone from Cali yet.
@@PerezAutomated ok I hear that argument, but they aren’t the only private school that plays football. Many public schools could beat other private schools including other schools in the Trinity League. So that argument doesn’t hold much weight. Public schools recruit as well
So congrats to these two big powerhouses but this is a big butt I want to definitely congrat the number one team in California in public school Mission Viejo, it's nice to see them back on top they're the state champions you asked me,,,,,..
@Crazy Issachar yes the same team that lost to Long Beach Poly so, they're ranked number three in the state of California there's a top school public school in the state, I think they lost another game I think they went 10 and 2 so what's your point?
Honestly Serra from up North don't have a chance against Bosco. They should save the gas money and stay home. Bosco on a different level. West Coast Best Coast. We want all that smoke. 💭💭💭💭💭💭
Love watching these teams play, especially when they go out of state and smack teams but let’s not forget that De La Salle dominated Cali for over a decade. How did these teams get so good all of a sudden? 50 D1 players on a team is ridiculous but regardless, have a little respect for teams that play hard. Take it you peaked in HS
The only thing that sucks about this is that some other team from some bum league is going to claim Nation Champ when they can't lace either of these teams shoes. It's a tragedy that Bosco and Mater Dei cancelled each other out while some lesser team with a cupcake schedule gets to CLAIM they champs. Real ones know.
Feel bad for MD/ Coach Rollo but I knew he and his boys gave everything they got! Congratz to Bosco on winning the highschool national championship!! Now time to finish strong & blow out the No Cal team that is selected for the open championship. LETS GO!!!
Why you feel bad for him ? He sexually assaulted a female at mater dei and he let his football players beat up and put their penis in their face in the locker room. He knew what going on too, let’s see you defend him 😂
@@MADMAX-yh5rz he got head topped for a Tud so “raping” is a reach lol. And refs got nothin to do wit him getting pancaked an letting matayo get a 1st down to end the game
@@freddygutierrez6764 I’m not a USC fan it’s roll tide with me & every time i come in these comments it’s people calling cali ball soft if we so soft then play us you don’t gotta play SJB or MD we got plenty of public school that are top 25 caliber
15-20 years from now they need a 30 for 30 on the Bosco/MD rivalry from like 15-16' to whenever one of them fall off. Bosco emerges early 2010's with epic battles vs Cen10. Those CIF final games were even better than the MD/SBJ finals, but the teams werent as good as the 16'-present MD/Bosco era teams IMO. Then MD lead by JT Daniels turns mater dei a national powerhouse again. shoutout to bishop gorman, cen10 and servite for beating these teams in the last 10 years
Once again great game but the long touchdown on the wr screen by Bosco was one of the worst no calls ever. The blocking receiver was 6 yards down the field blocking the DB before the QB threw the ball. That was crazy they let that go.
@Drew Rockwell That hurt but MD still scored on that drive, in no rule book at any level can a receiver go 6 yards down the field and block before the QB throws a 3 yard pass. That should have been a penalty that put them behind the sticks an extra 10 yards, instead they got a touchdown and end up winning by 2.
@@losdog911 both are true, but it cost MD like 5 minutes and the touchdown should never have counted so my point still stands refs won the game and it funny that Bosco acts like they did
@Drew Rockwell Yeah I said that earlier. One of the dumbest calls I ever saw. That two point conversation play by MD was terrible though. A basic lead handoff SMH! The refs did them no favors but it was a good game. Interested to see who MD next coach will be because they are loaded.
Anyone know the Bosco kid wearing the UGA gloves? Never mind, I see it’s Deandre Moore, but he’s a Louisville commit? Weird he would where uga gloves unless…
