Jason, up until the final England had kept a clean sheet for goals from open play without ceding as much control and domination as they did to Italy. With the way Italy were banging on the door, if they weren't going to score a pretty goal then they were going to nab a scrappy one. England's approach in that final lacked balls. And that's always England's problem, they just lack balls when it matters most. As Klobby mentions, having a midfield technician like Modric to slow the game down and to settle everyone would help, but in the absence of that kind of player you need the tactics to compensate. You cannot tell me that England's shrinking violet tactics of retreating into their own box and panicking when they had the ball back was a wise game plan for a final. Don't try to win a final by holding on for dear life for 70 minutes, because you should never die wondering.

Five years ago we were KOd by Iceland and now we are competitive against the best teams in Europe. But it's all or nothing for some people who feel entitled. Wish people would stop being so negative at the end of the day we made it to the final with an average coach we didn't concede a single goal from open play we didn't lose 1 game we knocked out the Germans along the way. We had players missing like Trent Alexander Arnold who is our set piece taker And arguably the best RB around. The majority of the team are under 23 years old we've got plenty of Quality players coming through l. It took penalties to beat us. They have done us proud in my opinion and they will only get better it just wasn't there time just yet but it will come. nobody has the strength in depth that we have..people just need to calm down and get behind the team. Personally I'm looking forward to the world cup next year :)

Everyone talks about England not doing this, England not doing that ... when the fact is, Italy weren't shaken after there first goal they kept calm, worked hard, adjusted and after 15 - 20 minutes turned it from a back and forth to a domination , put the pressure on and fought harder for the ball and pushed forward and even more so in the second half. Even in the first 15-20 where England looked good, Italy still had just as many, if not, more chances. England slowly shut down and were on the defensive, yes they did have some attempts here and there through out the game, but Italy was the way better team. All I've been hearing is always what England didn't do as opposed to what Italy did do. Yes it came down to penalties but Italy deserved it. Credit goes to Italy and their never give up attitude which made England play that way.

POV from Italy: At minutes 35, first half, I said to my friends "If the first half ends with this score, we (as Italy) are winning it". Now, I'm not some kind of tactical genius or more expert than others, but this was my thoughts about this: Playing at Wembley in front of something like 80k England supporter is never easy, and even more than pressure, you could feel during the approach at the game and in the first minutes a sense of "inevitabily" around an England victory. The supporters felt it, and English players felt it, and I'm pretty sure our players felt it too. And that goal only managed to increase that feeling. BUT after the first ten - very good for England - minutes, the home side stopped from imposing their rythm at the game, and started, slowly but surely, to accomodate on a comfortable "let's wait for them and then counter attack". Which is fine... in any other occasion and maybe not that early in a game, but yesterday that choice only gave Italy time to warm up, to touch more and more the ball, to slowly transform the game from an emotive one to a technical one. And THIS Italy is second to none when it come to technical skills. So you ended up loosing confidence more and more and we ended up throwing that feeling of inevitabily behind our back. Refusing to acknowledge such a simple fact as these two guys are doing here since yesterday is pretty hilarious, if you ask me.

Italy forced you to play like the old England. Italy deserved the title. Was the most consistent team in the tournament and played some of the best football.

Southgate largely ignoring the likes of Grealish and Sancho, 2 of the best attacking players in Europe, for most of the tournament was a big problem. Certainly should have got more out of them and brought them on earlier in the final. Clearly has his favourites like Mount who didn't contribute anything. We had a great tournament but Southgate has too many flaws to win anything with this team.

England had a easy goal. England started the game with 1 goal up. But italy pushed England's defense and italy got their goal getting through England's defense. England could never play like that. True champions push for the win and play football. Italy much stronger team they fought for that goal.
