I lost my brother to the Sacramento River in 2017. This man did what so many won’t or can’t, and I hope he knows how grateful the victim’s loved ones are.
Man, that’s really tough. Huge props to this guy risking his life. So proud of him. What he did was no small feat… I hope he knows he did absolutely everything he could and he’s still a hero regardless of the outcome.
Yes, not everyone is capable of this. Some people freeze up in these kind of situations and some readily take action. Saving a drowning person is very risky to yourself, what he did was incredible. He brought him back to his family, even if he didn’t survive 🤍✨🕊️😢 Very very sad, my condolences to the the families & friends of both ❤️
ignorant comment.. just because people can't help doesn't make them not real people. why put themselves in danger by jumping in first place... people have limits to what they can do.
My brother just got helped from a nice gentleman when we were in the Russian river he seen him struggling a bit and jumped in no hesitation he later said his friend died along the same stretch of river when they were swimming he was right behind and never seen him again please wear life jackets🙏🏽❤
Life jackets save lives. But swimming with a life jacket is not swimming. Just don't jump into fast, turbulent water if you aren't wearing one. JUST DON'T DO IT.
What's the name of his restaurant. I need to personally go down there and thank that man for being a good person and support his business. That's the type of people we need in our communities. I'm sorry for the loss of those 2 families. may they rest in peace 🙏
@arlenespencer5850 ohh, so that's the excuse. Y'all are brainwashed it's not even funny....... your god let two people drown and die, but in the same exact sentence Y'all wish for the man's life to be blessed. The irony is too funny
Lifeguards actually wait until the drowning victim loses consciousness to avoid that. It's just human nature to pull yourself off of something to breathe or get out of the water.
Best thing to do with a panicked swimmer is to dive back under water - it’s the last place they want to go - and then swim away to put some distance between yourselves
If you foremost do not know how to swim DO NOT enter rivers or lakes or large bodies of water, especially with currents. DO NOT underestimate the power of water. Imagine yourself as a plastic bag riding air currents on a 40mph windy day, that is what you are like in water.
If my loved one was drowning and a man like Brandon Sandoval tried to save them, I would be forever grateful. It is sad that both people died in the end.
Bradford - Regardless of the results, your heroism is the same. "Do unto others .... " is how we all should live. Thank you man, for paying it forward! I hope to visit your restaurant Thai Farm House someday!
Why would you be wearing a life jacket if your swimming, lifejackets are for those who are on small boats or kayaking or other boating pleasers not for when you are going swimming. They were not in a boat nor did the fall in. They jumped into the watering hole, but got sucked under by a rip in the water.
Aw man that’s just heartbreaking. Much respect to all of our first responders, official and unofficial! And to the recovery team that helped. That dude w the snorkel is a real hero.
almost drowned 20 years ago in a random lake in Slovokia. Friend saved my life and I'm so grateful for everything that I've experienced since then that I would have missed out on had Steve not heard me. always respect the water. Always, always respect the water.
My son last year jumped into the American river to help a man with two ladies and some kids on a raft get to the banks. He said they were yelling for help and he just went in, the current was strong. He used to go to the river all the time but hasn’t been back since then. My prayers for the grieving families.
I saved someone’s life a few years ago who was going under but you have to be careful. I only recommend trying to save others if you are a great swimmer yourself. Otherwise you might lose your life also.
I was taught many years ago in a lifeguard course that if somebody is thrashing about and you can't get them to relax before getting a hold of them, then you wait until they expend their energy and get tired. Then you can get your hold on them and bring them to shore without them thrashing and endangering you.
Prayers for the families. Give this guy a key to the city!!! #hero Also, do not take the American River lightly…. Each time I have swam in or across her, I knew it was swimming for my life!
What an upstanding man ❤ No hesitation what so ever 😢 Made me cry. We have rip currents here on the Gulf of Mexico. Instructions are 1. Dont panic. 2. Turn on your back & let the current pull you out 3. When you feel the pull lessening, swim 🏊♂️🏊♀️ parallel to the shore then make your way back to the beach. Despite these Instructions being posted in all hotels, motels, condo's & townhouses after someone drowns the remaining loved one's & friends always say they didnt see it 😮 They saw none of the signs posted just about EVERYWHERE in Ft. Walton Beach or Destin Florida ⛱
People have no idea how dangerous flowing (or even open) water can be. Most people relate it to a swimming pool and that's like relating "Oh, I walked across the target parking lot so I can walk across a 5 lane freeway during rush hour." That doesn't even do the analogy justice. It's not the same. Do not go into open water, especially flowing water unless you are 100% of what you are doing and are fully prepared. Great job to this hero!!
Why would you be wearing a life jacket if your swimming, lifejackets are for those who are on small boats or kayaking or other boating pleasers not for when you are going swimming.
Life is for living, risks and all. Quit spreading your fear. People drown in rivers, people die in car accidents, people die in plane crashes, people die falling and hitting their heads; people die. 100%. If you want to strap yourself up with a helmet and a life jacket and all kinds of buffers like the Michelin Man, be my guest. But please stop trying to make this world a more fearful, isolated, and hateful place.
It is a sad testament when everyday people are considered "rare individuals" when they do what we should ALL do to help each other. What have we become?
I had an experience once with an inflatable pool dingy. It was a tiny river we could stand up in. We capsized the boat. It was facing the current and wrapped around us. we were trapped against some branches and debris along the bank of the river. It was more difficult than it should have been to get out of there. Not super dangerous, but close to it. Made me realize how careful you need to be even in mild situations.
So glad this man decided to help. My dad drowned with three people who were with him from shore. Granted, two were teenagers so I don’t blame them but the other adult could have tried to help. They just called it in after the fact but luckily they stayed put so the emergency teams were able to find my dad’s body 5hrs later vs days after the fact.
I heard a story that Phil Collins wrote the song about someone drowning and the man who just watched. Apparently, it was something that actually happened - an adult watched a child drown and did nothing. Years later, Phil invited this man to a concert, sat him in the front row and sang the song to him.
Sir, you took action when most wouldnt or couldnt. Though it wasn't the outcome you hoped for, at least take comfort in knowing that you did the right thing, you rendered aid to a fellow human being, and in the end gave his family a chance to say goodbye. 🙏🏻
I hope you can find a dishwasher to hire! You are about to get busy at the Thai Farm House!!! I will be there to eat at the Hero's Restaurant soon!! God Bless You!
Not everyone wants to help man, you did awesome brother. There are those who run from danger and to no fault of their own, and then there is those who run Into that danger to help others in need. That's what makes humanity better than other species on earth. If I can help I do my best to not endanger myself or others in that process. But from what I've seen and I'm sure he saw, there are very few of characters as he and you see that in times like this. He was all that those guys had in ways to help. Emergency personnel show up often to late in these cases, but they are a group of these characters. Good on you man I hope you find peace from the idea you gave it your all. Somethings are out of our hands. Cheers. For those families who lost loved ones, I hope you find peace as well.
It is often Christians that do these sorts of things. That's always my first thought, and most of the time as with this instance, when listening to them, turns out they're Christian. It is what Jesus did for us, and it is what He told us to do for others.
Bless you for doing the right thing and trying to save a fellow human prayers for the victims and their families and prayers to this man trying to save someone and they still don’t make it has to be hard he did everything he could have done
yea in lifeguarding they train us that a drowning swimmer can pull you under from panic. so you are trained to approach each drown differently depending on situation. if they are panicky and spashing above water you have to attempt to pass them a floating object and yell at them over and over to grab it cuz they are in a panic. if they do not, we have a move where you swim under and around them and ram the floating device rigth into their chest and put them in like a wrestling hold lolol. it's a bit crazy to learn.
@@Maplefoxx-vl2ew yeah if it wasn’t for another guy there who obviously had training I had a high chance of drowning and the other guy I was trying to help might as well been gone. It was in decent current and I wore myself out and barely made it back to the shore which was maybe 15 ft away. The guy that helped took the guy from behind and made him float on his back and swam him to shore.
Having been direct witness to a rescue attempt in Puerto Rico many years ago in which my good friend attempted to rescue a drowning woman, I can tell you how difficult it is when the person does not survive. My friend was in tears for days after learning that she did not survive. Even though he is the one who pulled her to shore, he blamed himself for not getting there sooner. Water is both amazing and yet, it can turn deadly in just a few short minutes. I have heard drowning is at least a peaceful way to go. Still, my hearts go out to the families of these young men. Heartbreaking.
Your friend may have had sorrow, but in time he will know that he did all he could. At least he will not have the crushing weight of guilt on him that he would have had otherwise.
I had a dream that I was being swept down a raging river in the pitch dark of a night and someone grabbed me by the hand and pulled me out and put me on shore and as soon as I was put on shore it was light and I could see but nobody was there. I know it was Jesus 🙌🏽🙏🙌🔥❤️🕊️GOD BLESS THIS MAN ! HE'S A HERO.
