I purchased this 1995 Honda CBR 600F from a local mechanic who couldn't get it running.....I'm not sure what I am going to be able to do but I'll give it my best and with a bit of luck we'll be taking it out for a test ride 👍
I’ve just bought a 1992 Honda CBR600F-N, 38 years after I last owned a bike. Just sorting it now to get MOT ready and then I’ll be out riding. Can’t wait.
Just did this past weekend. 1992 F2 and boy is this a hell of a first bike project. Not complicated, just hard to source parts locally. Everything has to be ordered online. Even my local Honda dealer stated most of these parts are discontinued from Honda. Aftermarket, NOS & second-hand it is. Buying what I need now but will begin to stock up for the future as soon as its running. LET'S RESCUE THESE PUPPIES, ADOPT DON'T SHOP !!!!!
Good going. Sometimes, just because someone is a mechanic, doesn't mean they know how to work on everything. As an electrician, I know a lot of electricians that don't have a clue when it comes to automotive wiring.
If I remember the old cycle world article correctly, the hoses from the airbox are for pressurising the float bowls. This would prevent the pressurised ram air coming down through the main jets and frothing the fuel in the bowl.
I’ve got a zzr1100, had starting issues. I went through the wiring diagram and checked the system in a methodical fashion. A wiring diagram makes it so much easier. The problem was a faulty relay on the negative circuit. It’s very satisfying when they run sweet and knowing you did it yourself 👍🏻
I have a '96 CBR600F3 myself. It has been running perfectly until I stored it in the Pandemic - 2020. I had it brought to a mechanic due to a rough 3-cylinder start and we couldn't get it running since. We have gone through the same steps you have covered and the conclusion is that the carbs have to come off again and everything has to be cleaned again really carefully... I would really like to hear her roar again but I plan to sell it and buy a fuel-injected motorcycle even if this beauty has a sentimental value for me. The ethanol is slowly killing the classics unfortunately...love your content, keep it up ! Greetings from Romania !
Its been a while since you posted your question but I have a 1996 that ive owned for the alst 25 years. it was doing the three cylinder start as well. here are some things to check: vacuum test ports on the head to the carb. mine had dryrotted and caused air leaks. Check the sync and balance with a 4 vac channel gauge. once I synced them and then balanced them by vacuum all 4 cylinders fire right up. I hope that helps.
Last year I bought a 1989 CBR600F (jelly mold). 54,000 miles .Been out a couple of times, love it. Done quite a bit of work on it, mainly cosmetic. I bought one when they first came out. You certainly know your local roads, that's for sure.
I have a 1996 600F3 that was a Texas import in my garage, registered in England 1998, it has been off the road since 2002 and has only done 9'127 miles from new. I have wanted to restore it for years as it is a little tatty now, but never had the time, lots of OEM parts bought and a few upgrades but it is still in the garage partially dismantled. I am worried now though about ethanol infested fuel, it would really damage the carbs, so these days I keep telling myself that I will finish it and put it on display in my Bachelor house.
I used to know a race engineer who worked his magic on rc30’s and he once told me how good these engines are. Even now a good one will keep with most modern stuff. Glad you got it running👍
Just bought a 99 F4 and running through same process. Fuel pump replaced and running, now just working on carbs but love the info on freeing up the trottle and will be using these tips shortly. Thanks for the vid, its great. Will def check out your others
This bike and the F2 are my favorite bikes ever. There’s also a Cagiva which had horrible brakes and a mushy front suspension that made you feel like you were going twice as fast as you really were.
Brilliant video… there’s something about 90s sports bikes that are just so damn fun!! I recognised the petrol garage at Longwick… some nice roads around there! Great channel mate… 😎
Thanks very much bud appreciate that! 👍 Lovely roads around here I agree, hopefully going to get to wales at some point this year! Great content on your channel too mate 🙌
I've just bought the same bike which has been off the road for 8yrs and wont start. 1998 honda cbr 600f. Needs the tank cleaning. Will also check the fuel pump and relay. Great video.
Good luck! Clean the carbs out that will probably be one of the things! Keep in mind the Fuel pump only activates once the bike is turning over so you won’t get a buzz from just turning the bike on.
I run/store my 96F3’s last tank with non ethanol gas from the airport every winter. 5 years and 10k miles later still starts right up with the choke. Not a fan of stabilizers. If I couldn’t get ethanol free gas I’d just mix water with it to separate and then siphon it out. Then just add some octane booster for that tank. If the gas smells bad in any of my gas tanks after storage or a new machine I just pump it out of the tank into a funnel with a coffee filter and mix it in with the cars gas. I use a duraheat siphon pump. When I got my bike with 10k miles on it I changed the fuel filter (it was plugged limiting flow), petcock (it leaked at the tank O ring), the oil and filter, the fan wouldn’t kick on (fuse was blown), new tires and valve stems, new clutch cable (old one dragged even with lube), brake fluid ( it was 30 years old), headlight (it was very dim), air filter (upgraded to K&N), exhaust (upgraded to Delkevic), brake lever (old was bent), seat bolts (2 new bolts can be removed with an Allen key that stays on the bike) yes I’ve needed a jump and if you don’t have a wrench/socket you can’t get the seat off to get to the battery. Overall this is a great bike if you keep fresh gas in it and regular maintenance. I’m a short guy at 5’6” with a 29” inseam and this is a comfy ride when I commute 30 miles one way on it. I wouldn’t call it a beginner bike because it has lots of power. My best 1/4 mile is 12.5 at 112 mph and I’m 210 lbs. Most cars under 500hp have trouble keeping up. They don’t make them like they used too and these are cheap fun if you can find a decent one. I get asked how fast is it all the time and it’s fast enough for me. I’ve got a video of it revving on my channel. Ride safe 👍🏻
Have you tried using toluene ? I put some in my old Porsche and it made it better than new. Truly rocket fuel that stuff tho I had fuel injection; no idea what it'd due with carbs.
that rough idle is likely to be a blocked pilot or idle jet, and such a lot of work to get into them and clean them. Check you plug colors as one or more will be lighter if that is the case. i am forever clean out my cbr400rr carbs
My 80 year old neighbour has a 91 F2. He starts it every Saturday and let's it run until the fan cuts in. He has been doing this for about 4 years as he don't ride anymore until earlier this year she wouldn't start. All jets was fully blocked. Tank is like new inside but petcock was also gummed up. And he used fuel stabiliser.
James, invest in a jis screwdriver, you’ll never look back, Amazon mate. And pull the clutch in when turning over, takes the flywheel load away , sorry to be a pain mate, great vid though
Identical to my 96. It's the best colours. I'm having trouble with a flat spot from 5k to 7k revs. It feels like a jet issue, though I've just fitted a SS exhaust, not sure if that's effecting back pressure? Great video mate, looking forward to watching the track day on it. Thanks for posting
I had a 1996 F3 50K on the clock, it was stolen. So I got a 1999 F4. They are fast enough and cheaper to run than a 1000cc bike. Nice vid and quite often with bikes it is something simple that is the problem but we overthink instead of chasing the issue
@@explosivehotdogsIt was taken off the street it had a huge disc lock on 3 people in a van just picked it up and put it in the van (all caught on CCTV). My F4 has 2 oxford monster chain and locks on it chained to metal railings, also it has a alarmed disc lock and bike cover and is kept in a secure compound with CCTV. Last month 2 people dressed in black with balaclavas took the cover off the bike then left it alone, they then went and stole a VFR800 from the same compound which was recovered from about 100 metres away where it had been dumped as they couldn't start it but they caused enough damage to write it off
i bought a cbr 6 years ago as a damaged repairable ,wouldnt run ,even took it to local bike shop ,they couldnt find owt wrong ,really good they were .turns out the plug leads were on the wrong plugs .......
Once my charge thing next to the fuel relay went bad and bike wouldn’t even turn on at all. I forget what it’s called but it changes your power from ac to dc to charge battery or something
My 02 cbr just stalled on the way to work when i parked then boom the kill switch stopped working usually it shows f1 light but it does nothing.. idk what to do it just tried to crank over but doesnt
the fuel pump on my 95 cbr 600f is doing a clicking sound about every half second while operating, does it have to do soemthing with the way the fuelsystem works?
I remember when the Honda Hurricane 600cc F1 motorcycle came out in the late 80's they were not that expensive at the local dealership. A few years later the Honda F2 model really created a buzz in the motorcycle community and there was a big price increase at the local dealership for the bike. I picked up a new Honda F2 in 1994 for $5,000 dollars. I still have the bike. It's very uncomfortable to ride but fast as hell if that's what your looking for.
I used to race the F1 Hurricane in the 1980's. It was the original Vance and Hines supersport bike (I got used from a third party) Loved that bike. Every loophole in the rules were exploited and it was bike lengths faster down the straights than a stock F1 yet even close up with a magnifying glass it appeared to be bone stock. I wasnt racing in AMA at that time so we could modify it in our series. We tried to make ram air by sealing the air ducts to the airbox but it would not run right. After all these years now I know it is because it is missing that tube to pressurize the floatbowl. I remember the F2 was a game changer. Way faster than the F1 or the FZR600. Fun times.
A good car mechanic should be able to fix bikes. Or diesels etc. If not, then they aren't a good mechanic period. Principles are the same across all machines. It's basic troubleshooting.
