It is a very nice kit and very nice review. Got mine for $3 at a hobby store a few years back. No decals, no Thompson and no clear parts. Every part had been removed from there parts trees already. That is a lot of little parts. Scratch built the Thompson and clear parts. Also have the 1/9th Zundapp and have been looking for an R75. Not cheap. Rick the only 1/24th scale I have found is a diecast made by Maisto! Not bad looking if you weather it up a bit.
I noticed that the box art shows the non-suiside cutch mechanizm, and the sprue is the suiside type. I had a real WLD (made for the civil market) Most of the gov't models where G, I also had a WLDR which was the racing model. The kit looks very nicely done.
The plastic bag of parts has a clutch detent spring included so can be built as "non-suicide" original configuration. Hipguys note the term suicide clutch or suicide shifter does not refer to the hand gear change operation but was a modification to the left foot operated clutch whereby the detent spring was removed to ensure the bike did not slip into neutral during racing. Of course when stopped at an intersection in traffic you needed to keep your left foot on the clutch at all times (unless you moved the gear-change into neutral before stopping). If your foot slipped off you could end up propelling yourself forward into traffic.
+Dirk Pitt (The ADD Builder) I searched for the Revell Kawasaki police bike. Same exact bike, just without the Chips logo on the box. Reissue of course.
+hpiguy's Workshop I´m finishing the WLA right now (as a civilian bobber). Great kit, but you´ll need to clean up every single part prior to assembly. That is to be expected though, since it´s a rebox of a very old ESCI kit. Once the parts are flash-free they fit beautifully.
Back in the day, ESCI also offered the civilian version of it. A kit I couldn't afford at the time, but it totally sparked my love for vintage motorcycles. So when Italeri re-released this one, it was natural to get one, throw that Tommygun into the rubbish and paint it black and blue.
Chris, great channel...saves me trips to the hobby shop cuz they won"t let me open the boxes to see if the kit is worth buying...Built the 1/9 harley w750 way back when it was an ESCI kit, still have it, but in pieces...Can you PLEASE PLEASE do a build of this kit so the fairly new concept of weathering and aging can make it look as good as a war bike should?
Your videos are great, I've been learning a lot watching. But I got a question, what is the constant ticking noise in the videos, I got an idea it might be the lens on your camera adjusting. Keep up all the good videos.
