I thought I was terrible at maths until I went to UK for my higher studies. Most Engineering students could not add 4 digit number mentally..or do many things I could do in India..and I was almost the last rank. Beggar in India became king in UK. :)

@manoharraomattaparty298

Calculus is part of mathematics. Mathematics includes so many other topics like limits,trigonometry, algebra, geometry and so on. Since childhood we are taught to do mental maths and avoid using calculators or paper and pencil. Kids are taught to use their fingers but as they grow up they are discouraged to use fingers and if any adult does that then people will laugh at them. It is a simple trick actually and anybody can do it with little practice. Just convert the numbers to nearest 10s or 100s and so on. For example 57+47 can be converted to 60+50. Now, it becomes easy to add because you need to add only 6 and 5. From the overall result remove 6 because you have added 3 to each number. See, it is as simple as that. Normally, in schools every child is supposed to memorize multiplication tables upto minimum 12 and maximum 19. This also helps in calculating very fast. A child may be very good in calculus but still does poor in mathematics because he or she will not be good at other topics. Almost every parent in India wants their child to be a engineer, scientists or doctors and mathematics becomes primary requirement to pursue such careers.

It is just that in India we are not exposed to use calculators from a very young age even till our higher educations and we are made to practice heavy amounts of calculations in our early years of education (till class 4 or 5). In Indian education system, Mathematics is given a lot of importance. This however doesn't necessarily mean that every Indian is good at maths. It solely depends on the individual. That being said, compared to other countries we are given a lot more exposure in calculations and mathematics to such a point that sometimes even students pursuing Humanities can choose to study Higher Mathematics (not the one that is taught to science students but quite similar to it). I used to get around 95-100 in Mathematics till class 10th and now, I am pursuing Science Stream because it is my passion (not a burden of expectations put forth by the soceity). Maths is still my favourite subject but I do not consider myself to be excellent in it because what we are taught in schools and coachings is not the whole of Maths. It is such a huge subject with a great depth. It is nearly impossible to be perfect in Maths just like any other subject.

Like fee was 1.2k and max 6 students... How difficult can that be. Every other foreign student wanted me to have a round figure fees like either 1000 or 1500 🤣 I had to explain to them that 1200 is also a round figure and they were like... Sirrr.... Noooo 🤣🤣Haha... All of these questions actually reflect whether you are good at calculation or not. ( Although these questions were very easy ) . Being good at mathematics and being good at calculation are two different things. You need to ask questions from arithmetic, algebra, geometry to know if they are good at maths. My grandfather never went to school , basically never did mathematics but he was extremely good at tables , calculation. I am good at math but sometimes I do silly mistakes while calculation. I was capable of scoring 100 out 100 in mathematics but only because of silly mistakes I used to get marks around 90. I got 100 in board exam though.

@@abhishekchoubey3669 Agreed. I remember as a kid my teachers did try to forcibly memorize tables upto 20 or something. I just don't that much brain power to memorize anything more than 7/8 things at a time. Instead i only mastered tables from 2 to 9 perfectly and then employed my decent visualisation skills to do any double digit arithmatic. So to calculate stuff like 18², just do 8², 1² and 1x8 and visually place it in proper places to add it together after. I was so bad in maths in my childhood ...till 9 grade but after that I worked hard on it... courtesy to one Bhaiya from Bihar who helped me enormously at each step ...today I am in final year of engineering hugely because of him...I consider myself very lucky to have him in that phase of life otherwise I don't know what I"ll be doing by now

8:34 I'm an retired engineer so I'm no slouch at math. Cubes aren't too hard mentally, up to a point. You two know them better than you think with a few tricks. I know of finger counting in India & other countries which is a great way to teach it. There are people that actually have problems with math in all countries. Many countries in Asia have a culture of math being a basic skill. It is really a case of conceptual math being a forte' that the West excels at. But before there was Pythagoras, Euclid, and Archimedes in Greece, there were likely Asians that had worked it out before them. The concept of zero being a number would have been strange to the West & was brought trading with . . . India.

Not just zero. There is a reason the number system is called Hindu-Arabic number system. The Arabic is there because they introduced it in Europe from India.

I prepared for CAT (admission exam for MBA) and a general simple mental maths(No calculator at my time) requirement to start preparation was the following. It seems difficult but its based on some basic number theory and is just about practice (For eg square of a 2 digit number ending in 5 like x5 is x*(x+1) 25, 25 --- 2*(2+1) 25 = 625, 95 ---- 9025). Response time expected in 1-5 secs :- 1. Multiplication of number any two digit upto high speed 2. 1-100 number squares 3. 1-25 numbers cubes 4. Divisibility by numbers (upto 25) or modulo operator These formed the basic for attaining a decent score in the Exam. Remember this is not a technical exam but business administration, its an exam where all arts, commerce and social science students can compete and the selection where out of 230,000 only 4,300 are selected. I would say the primary level STEM education is pretty competitative and solid in India. We lag behind in Graduation and Post Graduation level education.

I am sure this questions will be easy to answer for European as well, Just that we Indians have that kind of surrounding that promotes the practice of numericals that's it And as my experience I used score in mathematics more because I was very weak at remembering the theoretical knowledge And as far as I know most of the engineering students are good at math because they don't have to remember all the theoretical knowledge to get good GPA

I think the questions werent fair,instead kinda manipulative....In Indian schools till 12th grade since we are not allowed to use calculators in exams every kid memorises mathematic tables upto 20 atleast and upto 30 if they are going for STEM careers...also we had to memorise squares till 30 and cubes till 20...so cubes and squares are fairly easy for an Indian student because we have been memorising them for years since we have to because we use them so much in our exams

No because Maths have known its roots to India itself due to them being one of the ancient civilisations in the world.... Brahmagupta was himself a Mathematician, an Astronomer and also the one who invented 0 in Mathematics...And now imagine how many ancient intellects were like him in the ancient times...

I got 148 out of 150 in 10th class (highest school level ) My dad slapped me at that time 🤣🤣🤣 In college level ; I got 96 marks out of 100 Thank God ' dad didn't slapped me but not happy at all . See ; most of time ⏲ parents expectation are very high here even from dull student. and that's pressure is on Indians brains consistently 🧠 So ; in that pressure ; we anyhow to achieve this level not just because of parents pressure but because of parents expectations do not destroyed /hurt and to keep them happy so we mostly tried to achieve like how they want . 😊 Competition 😑🤣🤣🤣

Yes since childhood we thought to do Mental Mathmatics even Solve Formula in Mind as well... And i find it good when you get easy with that that's the best thing ever i was that sharp once in High School.... Many years down the line no more in practice.... You wouldn't beleive Now..... I am so weak I don't even count money get return after purchase somthing.... Doing calculation is less interesting for me now i use Mobile calculator for my help and beleive me this is Shameful i feel guilty all the time I do that..... Vedic Mathematics and School Mathematics Indian style is best.... Now i realise and remember my old days.... Using calculator still a embarrassing thing in India and I am fully in support of it .. it makes you dependent a lot.... And Indian Sharp kids are on Next level they solve mathematics problems in their mind completely Mind Blowing people also here in India.... And if you want to clear any comparative Exam in India you have to have 100% commond over Mental Mathmatics That's True.

Questions like square of 12 and square root of 256 are very general.....if you go to a 7th standard class and ask square of 12...they will immediately answer 144(they'll say from memory and won't calculate). It's like getting used to the numbers itself. I still remember when I was in class4, we were required to memorize number table from 1 to 20. But I still think this is only true for city, town and sub urban highschool students and a vast amount of village students are left with poor quality education

As ik those were simple qsn ,most of indian schools has very very least capable math, physics,and all science teachers but they are good at how to do stuffs easily and force us to build out basement strong like doing basic calculations, arithmetics,algebra,and little calculus, we actually do many things using symmetrical calculations like perfect squares and cubes so they are memorized automatically in our mind ,not all of us are good at it when it comes to physics or chemistry , one's who r gud at english and some basic knowledge in stuffs related to tht subjects will do great otherwise most of them just memorize all things fot the exam and forgot aftrr the exams.
