Bianchi has been my guilty pleasure to watch for a while. His entire style is essentially the most broken things in the 2017 junior meta all rolled up into one froggy fella: march attacks with ridiculous bent arm finishes, and defensive actions that only end in fall short or counterattack. Why parry riposte when you can just spin around in the air?
While most fencers see spinning counters as a cheap, lazy tactic, Bianchi's low and wide en guard position gives him better change of direction and acceleration than most fencers. On defence, this forces attacker into a 50/50 on whether Bianchi will try to pull distance or to close it for a counterattack. It seems simple but it requires very strong footwork. While this worked well on the junior level, and even landed Bianchi a Bronze medal at the 2018 Bonn Senior World Cup, he could never break into the top 16.
But it really seems like Bianchi kept on innovating to improve on his style, especially in the 2022 to the current season.
Been waiting for Bianchi to win an individual senior fencing event since 2017 (satellites don't count). It's all coming together. Now I only have Nikita Itkin left and I can finally retire in peace.
