1 1/2 cup Sugar
1/4 cup Anisette Liqueur

Who is this lady?
Gina Petitti was born in 1935 in Faeto, Italy. Her family ran a farm in Italy and she met her husband, Vito, in the same town. In 1970 Gina, Vito, and her 4 children immigrated to America. Gina’s husband passed away in 2012, but she is surrounded by a large family, which includes 9 grandchildren, and lives 5 minutes away from her eldest daughter in New Jersey. Gina spends her time cooking, gardening, and being an active member of her local Church.
Where does Gina get her recipes?
Most of these recipes are from what she learned growing up in Italy, but some of them have evolved over time. She has also learned new recipes from friends and family in America. She is always eager to try new things.
Why is no one helping her in the video?
Grandma Gina doesn’t want help! Usually, it’s because we will slow her down or not do it “her way.” For the videos we only show her, but when the camera cuts we jump in and help form the cookies or prep for the next step.
Why don’t we buy her a new...?
Grandma Gina has a closet and garage full of new gadgets, spoons, forks, pots, etc… but she doesn’t like them because she is used to doing it with her old tools. She has fun getting her hands dirty!
Who is behind the camera?
Her retired son-in-law films, her daughter helps her prep, and she usually has one or two grandkids in the kitchen.
Does Gina read the comments?
We print out and show her how much love she gets from all her viewers, and she is very thankful and hopes you enjoy her cooking! Your comments bring her lots of joy, laughter, and inspiration to make more videos to share with you.

Dearest Nonnina...Watching your HAPPY & precious videos just fills my heart with so much LOVE & emotion...I'm reminded of some of my most cherished, childhood memories spent in both my Gramma's kitchens learning about their childhoods & how to cook...(To this day I'm amazed at how the smell of certain foods cooking flood me with such warm memories) One was Irish...tiny, bold, LOUD, ornery & Loving...A Mom of 10 with always a cigarette in her lips...The other was Swedish...sweet, gentle, softspoken & elegant, & also very Loving...Never left her house without wearing her pristine white cotton gloves & a beautiful brooch to match her dress...& NEVER wore slacks... : ) Something tells me your own beloved Grandchildren have the same kind of endearing memories with you...God Bless you & your Family...A friendly Hug from Ohio...

I just made this cheesecake and it was Amazing! It was very light and refreshing and best taste ever! I used a little sambuca because I did not have annisette. Nonna Gina you did it again! Always sweet, loving, Sincere, passionate and no phony stuff with her. She is simple and shows the recipes exactly as they are. She is Organized and does it all on her own! I can not find a true Italian cheesecake anywhere. I am so tired of every Italian restaurant advertising "New York style" or "Italian" and it is cream cheese! I’ve Made Nonna Gina’s 🧀 cheesecake 4 times in the past 2 years. Every single time, it turned-out DELICIOUS & BEAUTIFUL. Know why I like Gina’s artistry? She NEVER uses the crazy gadgets others do. She’s true to cooking & baking TRADITIONS. Having said that, God forbid she gets too tired to knead bread dough as usual & has to use a Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, WE WILL SAY, God Bless you Gina, whatever keeps you healthy & happy we are okay with that. Gina! 🇮🇹🌹💕 It is 2:45a.m. I’m in my tiny Philadelphia kitchen making YOUR CHEESE CAKE. This house is where 70 years ago my own Grandmother came to live and cook for her 7 kids. All our Family -La Famiglia- came together to Eat every Sunday, Wednesday & Friday. My Nonna 👵, she never made Cheese Cake, because in Italy, they had no oven. They were just farmers and only had sweets at Christmas, Easter or very special holidays. This early morning I am watching your video and making your cake! Thanks to you, I am also remembering the beautiful times when my Grandparents were alive and our whole family lived in the same neighborhood. Back then we were all together. Now? Well now I bought my grandparents old home after they died and I come to stay a couple times a year. We will stay here for Thanksgiving and Christmas, when our family will also come together again. I am practicing many of your recipes here and Thanks to you, remembering our grandparents is so easy. You remind me of my grandmother so much! Being here with the memories and spirit of our Real Italian heritage is wonderful and so are YOU! Sadly, I lost them both many years ago, but what they taught me I now teach my family and friends. Hi Gina❣ My Grandmother made this and would always call me to help her. My favorite cake in the whole world!! My mom would make the cannoli. For dessert there was ALways demi tasse, with the little twist if lemon peel. My dad had the LONG neck bottle of liquor with branches in it, and wine in bottles with the long necks. Nonna Gina, in my family my mother's Aunt Fran would make this. We called it ricotta-cheese-pie, and instead of candied citron, Aunt Fran would break up chocolate into pieces about 1/2 cm and sprinkle maybe 1/4 cup of it into the filling before putting it into the pie-crust. Also, we didn't put any liqueur into it; we put the anisette in our espresso, not our pie. ^_^ As for the crust, sometimes my grandmother would make a graham-cracker crust, but Aunt Fran would always use a “pasta-frolla” pie-crust. As a little-boy, this was my *favorite* dessert at Thanksgiving and Christmas. [My mother's Aunt Lucy [my grandfather's eldest sister] would make the ricotta-and-wheat pie for Easter. But Aunt Fran did the ricotta-pie on other holidays.] Aunt Fran, my grandmother's big-sister, died suddenly when I was 14 or 15. And with that, the ricotta-cheese-pie disappeared. My grandmother would try and make one on occasion, but it was never like Aunt Fran's. Then I asked my grandmother for the recipe [and several other family recipes]. I then started making it and bringing it to holidays. One Thanksgiving, when I brought a ricotta cheese-pie, my mother turned to my grandmother and said, “Ma! You did it, you got the ricotta cheese-pie just like Aunt Fran's.” My grandmother then explained, “I didn't make that! Your son did!” And then, I did the Happy-Victory-Dance-of-Joy! ^_^ Of course, I never was able to duplicate it. My ricotta cheese cake always comes out a bit different each time. And, in the past 5-10 years, I stopped using 9-inch pie plates and started making it in a springform pan. I happen to like the way that comes out more than how it is when I use a pie-dish.

I just love to watch you cook. You make me smile. I’m married to a first generation Italian from a small town in Campana. My mother in law is an amazing cook but is difficult to get her to teach us her recipes. She cooks many of the same things you do but your instructions are clear and easy to follow. LOL, The chefs use water baths to make it even and this chef here breaks out the knife and says " I will make it even" HAHAHA .I love her!!! She is so innocent in this video but she also reminds me of my grandma. Innocent until you make her angry thrn you better watch out. LOL

Mama G........it's 11:25 pm and I would give anything to have a large slice of this delicious cake you baked! It looks so good. Your family is sooo lucky to have you make them so many wonderful, authentic Italian dishes. I have a question....when I was 52 I developed arthritis and spinal stenosis. There is no way at 66, that I could stand and prepare all the dishes that you do. You are able to stand for long periods preparing food like you do, and no back pain or you don't hurt anywhere? If not, God has blessed you well, sweet lady. I love to see your joy in preparing your food. I wanted to also compliment you and tell you that you look much, much younger than your years add up to. You've got some beautiful genes, sweet lady.

I have often thought if the food network still had cooking shows instead of contests, Gina would be a star. I hope the family is doing a cook book. She is a gem ! A rare jewel.
