It’s a chatty one. A massive subject to cover and I tried to keep it under 30 mins! See the chapters to skip around and, as always, please feel free to ask me more. Apologies if I missed some questions that were sent in but I hope I covered all the most popular questions. Back to normal content for the next video…I will add the video about the planning next week or the week after. Lots going on this end - website coming soon which will have blogs covering the details, in detail. Thanks all. *doing a new kit sound test on a windy coast was a bit gutsy / foolish!
QUESTIONS: what exactly would have been this 40k for? I mean the cost they quoted to you if you wanted to extend your house? Sounds like a complete ripoff for some paperwork or permits. Have you checked if this really is the only way to add anything to existing building?
It included every survey, report, service fee, admin fee, tax etc. etc. that you could think of. I will write a blog on the detail once the website gets going as I think it would be an interesting thing to break down and show the costs so that people can use it over time. I think I may have said in one video - they said to pay it all and I would get the money back on the parts that I did not need or use.....Sure...😂🤦♂️
By the way... you are NOT chatty at all. You are yourself, which is delightful and personable. It's as if we're sitting right in front of you having this conversation. Appreciate the insight and frankness. Please keep it coming and don't worry about being 'chatty'. My husband and I have been focusing on Tuscany and came close to purchasing 2 other properties in northern Italy, but it didn't work out. I've had your region on my radar for over a year now so it's nice to hear the various situations that you've encountered and your point of view on things. People can definitely relate!!
Thanks for the feedback and idea @dungeondesigns104 . I was wondering if it would all need to be about doing up the house but it seems that the out and about parts are as popular. The drive down and back is amazing so I will try work that in....Thanks again.🙌
I agree would love to see that road trip. I was going to ask how long the drive was from Manchester to Marche? We're planning a drive from Krakow to Puglia in April or June depending on when I fly back over. Hoping to narrow down the choices so we can compare apples to apples as you say.
With a can or two of Monster / Red Bull I have done door to door in 26 hrs. BUT, that was very clear roads, no waiting at the channel tunnel, and resting every for hours for a short sleep. I would normally say 36 to 48 hours is nice as you can have a proper over night somewhere lovely...like Lake Lucerne in Switzerland.
Thanks so much for this in-depth video, Richard. I found it super helpful😊 I am currently toying with the idea of a property like yours, in Italy, to enjoy and renovate. I'm 36 and have grown somewhat tired of the lack of affordability and, as such, quality of life in the UK. Especially where I am, down south. Working full time night shifts in a fairly well payed job gets me a 1 bedroom flat, whilst I'm yearning for some land, garage space, outbuildings, and ofcourse some stunning country roads and scenery to get out on my road bike. I'll have 100k euro to my name soon enough, and hoping to tick all the boxes, without a mortgage. You've inspired me. Thank you so much for that🙏
I hear you @jareddavies-russell6282 . You have a very healthy budget there and I have no doubt you could find what you want and have plenty of change. My advice would be to start making the location and situation list and then get exploring for that. You will find it! Good luck.🙌
@threeacresofmarche great advice Richard, I'm excited to get listing, researching, and exploring for the future adventure. I am looking forward to following along with your journey too matey. Much appreciated and all the best
I've stayed up at castelluccio (wild camping about 23 years ago) and loved the area. As I get older the area keeps coming back to me in day dreams. My needs for a foreign home are almost identical to yourself so these videos are bloody useful. Thanks. Enjoy yourself.
My wife and I loved this video as it was exactly what we were looking for as we have started looking at finding a property in Italy, in particular in the regions of Marche, Umbria or Abruzzo. Keep up the great videos.
I've got to say, this is probably one of my favorite videos on moving to Italy. I've been looking for a retirement spread, and I'll try using what you shared. Thanks from the Florida Keys!
Thank you @jamesrachal6762 . That is great to hear - thank you for the feedback. Happy to help with more questions if I can and I can do another like this in a few months if people want it. A retirement spread - I like that! That sounds like a good plan. 👍
Hello, I was in the Keys on 2013 and I have enjoyed it quite a lot... Mallory square, Duval street, Hemingway home, etc. and I am wondering how would be like living there nowadays, on 2024... I'd love to spend there my retirement, but I am thinking about the cost of living there, and I am worried about the tornados storming the area, which seems to be growing more and more in dimensions and strenght... I'd love to hear your feedback... ciao!
@@pongo1969 I've lived in Florida for 21 years. Having lived here in the Keys for the past 5 years, I would be careful about considering this as a retirement place. GREAT place to visit! But when hurricane season starts, it can get nerve wracking! Any given storm can come in and, if not literally wipe your home off it's foundation, could totally flood the home. It's only "stuff", as we say. But it's YOUR stuff that has to be replaced. There's also the fact that you are definitely segregated from the mainland. Which I happen to be ok with, but my wife.....meh. Ha! Very limited on shopping. One way in to the islands and one way out. Traffic can be a bear on any given day. And E X P E N S I V E!!!! You won't go out for a lunch for two of a sandwich and glass of tea for less than 50.00!! I'd stick with the mainland somewhere. But all that said, many people do retire here.
We just got back (June) from 2 weeks north of Rome, just day tripping. We have lived in Germany 8 yrs, and done a lot of traveling and are convinced, Italy is the place. Thanks for an outstanding video.
Just loving your journey.my wife and have moved from Florida to the city of Merida Mexico in the yucatan.its been 8 years and we are interested in the Italian adventure. Keep up the great work . We are in the discovery mode now . Thanks for all the great advice. Great job amigo . Regards, Mark & Pamela Palmer
@markpalmer7896 Small world! From St Pete been living in Merida, Mexico for years but also looking at this area in Italy! Great minds? Saludos! Debbie Moore
That was very informative video,we have been in the area you are in about 13 years ago and just loved it. We are from Canada and going to Italy on the year of our 30 th anniversary was unbelievable. Good luck with everything and we will be watching 😊
Back in 2005 there wasn't the abundance of information online as there is now and yes it is now very possible to find almost any property on google maps, still fun to do now. We found the property hunt enjoyable, the work can be daunting but everything is worth it for being there. The main thing to do is find your own area as Richard has done, everyone has different requirements and expectations.
Hi, I’m Alex, I live in Eastbourne but I’m actually half Italian and lived in Tuscany for the first 19 years of my life, now that kids have grown up we want to move back to Italy and been thinking about Le Marche as my preferred choice. I work for Sussex police and it was actually my Sargent that told me about you , so here I am watching your videos . Just wanted to say that they are great and you’ve definitely helped me making my mind up regarding whether to go back to Tuscany or chose Le Marche. Next year I will be taking a month of work and arrange to view property, would be great to even meet up if you fancy , if you are there . Keep up the good work, well done 👍
Wow - thank you. That is great! Sounds like you have a solid plan @arm27529. A Sunday morning in Senigallia is a fantastic time and place to say hello. Who knows. Thank your Sargent for the intro!🙌
The regione Is called Marche. "Le" is just like "the" in English. Iagree, le Marche are a wonderful region. I live in Romagna, very near. You have just to pay attentiin to the following risk: heathquacke (Is the ols house enough solid?); and , overfloding (Is the old house in a risky lace?). Another particolar thing is: the roads from Appenino (the central Mountains chain) to the Sea are not connected, or not so much) one eachother (cause the montains), and you need to drive down to the Adraitic coast to travel North/South.Or reaching the Road E45/E7 in the internal part of the region/Italy. It's not a "problem", just a description of the mobility in this particular region. My favorite too!!
Glad I have found your channel. I'm from Osimo and I moved to Norway ten years ago. I miss my region, and hearing you taking about it make me very proud. I will follow you along, good luck 💚
Thank you @GiuliaManz . It is so nice to get comments like these from Italians. I really appreciate it and hope that I can do the region and all it has to offer justice. Did you watch that Oscar Farinetti speech - wow. I hope you are enjoying Norway.😊
Greetings from a fellow part-time Le Marche resident! Such an informative video and your numbers are spot on. I totally agree with your comment about buying property outright versus trying to get a mortgage. That was the very best piece of advice we got. Trying to get a mortgage complicates matters ten-fold. You mentioned it in passing, but I think it is definitely worth highlighting: what is your long-term game plan and what is your lifestyle. For me, I love to hike and wander country roads, but also wanted to be able to walk to local bars and restaurants. I wanted to feel immersed in the culture and knew I wanted to keep my brain active in my future retirement by learning the language. In the end, those lifestyle choices meant it would be best to get a townhouse in a livlier village (we live in Mogliano near Macerata). It's all about recognizing what your own style is and what you want to do...and that can only come from visiting a few times to get a sense of where you want to be. Oh, andbtw, we have a delightful ex-pat group in our area that gets together for drinks. You'd be more than welcome to join in!
Thank you @dr.sarabairdamodio7066 . I could not agree more. It sounds as though you did this a few years before me so I hope I can flow into it all as well as you have. Thank you for the invite. That would be lovely sometime.
Congrats on an interesting and seemingly very honest video on your venture so far. For all of us with aspirations to something similar, it's wonderful to get other perspectives. So from my point of you, job well done. My wife and I, from Australia here, are seriously considering a move to Italy as a genuine retirement option, but there is so much to learn. From your presentation, and that I am seeing from other expat sources, most seem to be as happy as you are. But accessing and acknowledging the experience of others who have gone before is quite critical, so thank you. I look forward to being able to keep up with your journey and all the best going forward.
Hi @GLP53Oz. It is good and of course you hear some not so great experiences, as you would anywhere. But overall I would recommend diving in and going for it. Good luck. Feel free to ask more questions as I am sure you will still have plenty.👍
Two years ago my girlfriend and me took the train from Vienna to Ancona and stayed for some days in Staffolo, which is little bit south to you. I really can imagine why you want to live there. It was only for some days but we really felt in love with Le Marche. The landscape and villages are so beautiful. But stay away from no vehicles zones, because we were fined from the Falconara police after we returned our car at the airport
Funny you should say that @eiswanderer4664 . Parking rules and these sort of signs are the 2nd hardest part of being here...behind learning the lingo to talk to builders merchants and delivery people on the phone.😂
Richard, just found your channel, exceptional content, has answered so many questions I have about how to pursue my own dream of moving to Italy. It's early days on my journey, but channels like yours are going to be invaluable on making it a reality.
Thank you @CG-hj1cu . Good luck for your search. Feel free to ask questions if you feel I can help. I will try my best to answer as many as I can although my inbox is filling up very quickly these days so apologise if I miss it!😊
Can't thank you enough for sharing your experience in such great detail. I love that you get to the point and talk quickly. Watching your info-rich vids is a good use of my time. 🙂
Thank you @tinakirkham9486 . A hard edit to cut it down. A lot to cover in 30 minutes! There will be some more in depth detail videos like this soon. Happy to answer any questions, if I can.👍
What a coincidence .. I was looking at and around Ancona over the past few days for several reasons including flights and ferry trips out of Ancona to Corfu etc.
My retirement is closing in but I'm not interested in owning anything. I'm in America and would likely look into renting a furnished apartment or home for 6 months a year to get away from the cold & snow in winter. This way I think works best I can try Mexico one year and possibly Italy another. Still figuring it all out..
That sounds like a good plan @oldcrook510 . Have you looked at house swapping? I might look at that with this place in the future. How nice to have a few months here, a few months there. Wonderful.😎
There are many, many places where one can rent a winter escape apartment. You may have a problem with some place in Europe due to the 90 day limit out of every 180 days unless you get some sort of residence visa. Mexico, Ecuador, Thailand, Vietnam, Turkey, so many options. Just spend time online and you'll see people talking about what has worked and not worked for them.
This is very informative and helpful. I like that your home 🏡 is is your home and not a business to enjoy for the pleasure of life. This maybe 🤔 a silly question …What is geometries and what are there function in the buying process? 😊
HI @user-of9bx1uk3u . Geometries seem to be the people that collate the paperwork and plans between customers and the authorities. If you are looking for one make sure you meet one that comes highly recommended to you. My current one seems to take longer than most and seems to charge over the odds and also seems to 'forget' some things so that delays me and costs me more. 😂 I have been introduced to a better one for the next wave of projects. 👍
Love this! It’s just so right, and great advice. All the same reasons we bought in Spoleto too. When you look back on it all now you see how far you came! I still feel like it was a dream even tho we’ve owned ours for 8 months now! Saying that wouldn’t do it again in a hurry - I hated sending the money over to the notary that was a worry I thought! And the renovation work just keeps on giving too but we just love Italy too. If you’re ever over the other side of those mountains come to spoleto :)
Hi @secretspoleto - it is one of those double edge rollercoasters....you don't want to get off but wonder would you step back on if it did stop. It is all a good adventure! Thank you for the invite. Good luck with your renovation.😎
This was helpful, Richard. Because my Italian grandparents are from a little village in northern Marche, I know the region fairly well. The only thing I would add is a bit more depiction of the region's natural beauty. As you noted, I too have found Marche every bit as stunning as Tuscany, but without the crowds.
HI @theohafner1857 . Thank you. I tried to cram as much information into this video as I could. The main part of my channel is my house renovation along with me exploring the region and lifestyle. I will keep that mix going so over time I hope to showcase all the beauty of Le Marche in a very natural and not over produced way. This region is stand out for me. Away from the crowds with many hidden gems that make it a wonderful place to live or spend a lot of time.😊
Oh wow, if I understand correctly (english) you are in one of the most beautiful areas in Italy. Excellent choice. Corinaldo is a pearl. Le Marche are beautiful, they are not yet too inflated as Tuscany and They are as beautiful as Tuscany. The location is strategic and there is a lot of art. Raffaello Sanzio was born in Urbino 😍
More of the surrounding areas & you’re plans for what you want to do with the property. Really good information thank you for sharing what you have learned. 👍👍🇬🇧🙏
How did you deal with the language barrier during the buying process? Do you think you might have missed some important details because of that during the purchase? How much do you think it would cost to buy a move in ready home needing a minimal amount of repairs? I’m a little too old to deal with the amount of work you have ahead of you. Keep making the videos, they are enjoyable.
Hi @dono9879 . I had help from a translator for quite a few meetings. It all worked well. You have to pay for a translator at the Notary if you are not fully fluent. I mau have missed some but in fairness it is all sold as seen and buyer beware. I would not buy a house without seeing it for myself. As for how much for a move in ready home - so many things to consider. Size, location, land etc. etc. etc. If you have a region and budget in mind you should get a good feel for the cost of the houses from the websites. casa.it and idealista are pretty good.👍
Such an insightful video and so helpful so thanks for sharing. I have been to the area once...it's lovely...and as you say under-rated...Tuscany without the people/prices.....I did worry about earthquakes mind but you have found yourself and incredible spot!
Totally agree with you Richard about Puglia. It's a stunning region but would never buy a house there as it's too far to drive there on a regular basis, can be extremely hot and overcrowded in summer and too quiet in the winter. Le Marche is absolutely perfect and Senigallia is a lovely place both in winter and summer.
Dig the video. Glad to see we're not the only house hunters constantly with 50 tabs of homes and RU-vid videos open all the time trying to narrow it down. Looking forward to the slower pace of Italian life. I think it will be a good fit for our hub home close to her family in Poland and a cool place for my friends and family to come for holidays. Have a good day! Pearly Jam must have been cool in that village. I went to uni in Montana for a couple years where their drummer is from. We used to see them pay at a dive bar sometimes. They would always be under different band names so the place wouldn't be mobbed. It was great! In 95 I was just 18 to get in the bar and they were super popular, but not as they are now.
@@threeacresofmarche You answered. Appreciate it. That's a long drive of 26 hrs even with the red bull! Beautiful route through for you though. Looks to be about 17 hours from my wife's family home to the place she loves in Puglia. Lake lucerne is a 10 for sure. We were there last fall meeting some friends. Sorry for all the questions. We're ready for the move. Trying to learn as much as we can to narrow down our areas like you spoke to in this video.
I’m so interested in everything you are sharing. It will just be me do very much want the nitty gritty advice. Thank you so much for taking the time to share.
Hi @gennyjustdownthelane8967 I don't mind doing one of these again in a few months as the questions build up. I am also setting up a website to support this content and give the nitty gritty detail that some are looking for. Feel free to ask questions or suggest things you'd like to know more about.👍
Hi @7TerriPod good luck with your search. If you are looking around the region I am in sign up to the mailing list on my website and there may be some content on there that may help. *the site is new also so is light on content at the moment....
Brilliant video, been contemplating something for a while now and it was nice to see you consider the connecting flights, I've always thought direct is king to be honest but in hindsight it's worth considering so thank you for the inspiration.
I use Lufthansa and it works great. I have not tried the complex Ryanair equivalent fly to somewhere random to connect back ....and would probably avoid them (not great at delay help on two separate bookings).
"They don't give much information, and for good reason." You are perceptive. I commend you. Very few people make such a statement on a public platform such as RU-vid. When I buy, I dearly hope you will come round for tea and conversation. You're a nice guy. A good bloke. Do British people really drink tea? I do. Green tea, mostly, with a splash of lemon. Sono americano.
Hello @stephencoury9411 and thank you. I am happy to help with questions and I am putting buyers in touch with some really helpful people who cut through the.... Anyway. Tea. Yes - I don't go mad for it but Brits do in general. Yorkshire or Tetly although there are hundreds of these fusion green tea things in the supermarkest now. I like green tea with mint or lemon but when here it is water and wine....with a coffee in the morning.😎
Just joined & catching up on your videos. Hi from New Zealand, I know what you mean about Italy, fab country, have holidayed there a few times & absolutely love it, can’t wait to go back. Keep up the good work, you’ve got a beautiful property & small is good!
I watched all your channel in one hit , so your doing something special as alot of these channels drag out the watching experience and starts to become hard to watch But fair play mate you got me drawn in ! And this video was so so informative, im 40 this year with a young and in bristol but i need to leave the city asap its all just mental Thanks again
@@threeacresofmarche im on a mission this summer to find a gem , i have 3 teenagers and a 4 year old son im looking for somewhere to have a getaway 4-6 times a year ! Im heavy into cycling and running and generally big lifestyle changes Im a wall & floor tiler specialist if you need a hand with anything let me know i could do with a break 🤩🙏🏽👍🏽 Thanks again and good luck
Very enjoyable video. I visited Italy last June & July. I stayed mostly in Trento area with a few days over in Tuscany (Lucca). Seemed like the weather was extreme last year. While in the military, I lived in the Trentino area for more than 4 yrs. There, as of last year, property is pretty hard to find & Italians say it's expensive. Being that I live in California, it's quite a long voyage for me. I really appreciate your content as it would be a dream for me to be in your shoes. I do know how beautiful Italy (and the people) can be.
I have friends that live near the Trento area. Top of lake Garda and Arco. I love it up there. It seems like an adults playground for any activity out doors. Amazing place. It is expensive but is a big holiday area so pulls lots of people. I hope you make it back and maybe get a do'er upper somewhere one day.🙌
Lots of good advice for people thinking of looking at a property in the region. My place is not far from you in Belvedere Ostrense and can certainly vouch for the region as well. You should try the Café Teatro in Ostra. Nice spot for an aperitivo. Look forward to catching up with the rest of your videos. One comment about building costs, they have risen a lot since the covid and especially since the war in Ucraine. Supply issues and the cost of gas etc sent production prices all over Europe through the roof. The cost for planning etc was a big surprise too, but was something that caught my geometra off guard also. I am looking forward to traveling down at easter and doing some work on my plot.
Thank you so much for these. It is especially helpful to hear how much you paid for things as we plan our own budget. I cannot believe paperwork and permits would be 40k....it's a new angle for us to think about when buying our fixer-upper. Love the channel and looking forward to the video about the planning applications....should be entertaining. 😂😂😂
Great video, best one yet. Don't apologise for being you and rambling. We would all do the same ! The Adriatic coast is Italy at its undiscovered finest. A world away from the English rat race. You have the essence of existence within your reach. Keep up the videos and doing your own thing.
..the details are so helpful! Thanks so much for the insight...headed to look up if this area is one of the 7% flat tax regions. I am in the US and been dreaming of Italy my whole life. Had 4 towns/villages on my list in Puglia but feel like what you described that it is just ao far down into Italy. Love the idea of train travel to Germany & beyond.
HI @myevado . I think the tax levels are set at the local region and not necessarily set at the main region level (ie Le Marche, Tuscay, Puglia etc). For example, I am in the Ancona region of Le Marche and my locat town hall is Corinaldo. Some areas have low tax as an incentive. Lots to research once you choose the region and region within that region. Best wishes.
Thoroughly enjoying your vlogs binge watching and catching up on your journey, I live in Spain in the countryside and have been on your journey also. Fortunately our town hall is far more agreeable. What a lot of red tape you have to go through. RIDICULOUS keep the vlogs coming they are great
Hi @dawnedawe5337 . When I lived in Andalucia I was told they flew over the land photographing the houses to see what had changed from the original plans....I think they gave up as there were so many extras. Supposedly they offered a one off amnesty for a fee. Thanks for watching.🙌
Hi @suzannebolyard8587 I think the costs are fairly relative to be honest. One difference that I find, for the better, is the quality of the products and produce. Europe is amazing....and obviously I am very bias towards Italy.😁
You mention that the utilities are very cheap, but would still be interesting to see how it brakes down. So maybe in the future (or when its raining) you can post a detailed description of what and how much monthly/yearly. Like how much is the electricity (kwh) and how much for water (€/m3), waste management, property tax, land tax etc. So people from around the world can compare to their local costs.
Hi @indrekn . Good idea - thank you for the feedback. I did do a supermaket shop and cut it as I thought it was borning. I may try again to show the prices in a short clip. I plan to build a website to support the content that will be able to go into more details on prices and how they change etc. All good ideas welcome - thank you for taking the time.👍
Have you ever considered South France? I know a lot of people move to South France, especially from US… would you mind telling me what are the cons for South France? I’d love to hear your opinion. Let’s say language, weather and price points are covered…then how would you compare South France to Italy? Personally, I am a city person and don’t mind country life but don’t think I can live where no ones around…at least close proximity, I want to see neighbors n people. Where would you recommend in South France or Italy, for a person like me?
Hi @chichairdo . That is a big question. Region for region I would suggest the middle of Italy is the best comparison to the South of France. There are plenty of big towns or large villages that will give you what you need. The South of France is beautiful, no doubt, but when you look at the destinations, heritage sites, and variety of landscapes that Italy has in such a small areas (in comparison) then I can honestly only see one winner. Obvioulsy I am very bias. Travel to both - you will fall in love with one region for sure. Everyone does. Best wishes to you and good luck on your adventure. You will find what you are looking for as there is something for everyone in these parts of Europe. It really is a magical part of the world.😎
Caio new viewer and subscriber. Been binge watching your videos here in Ventura California. Will be looking ourselves at one point. Look forward to your content. Thank you for sharing and great insight and information. Gratzi n Saluté
Thank you @ronniesherpalee4150 . Ventura looks a pretty cool place to be. A few months here with a few months there could be La Dolce Vita. Best wishes.
@@threeacresofmarche I agree La Dolce vida. Looks so wonderful there, will be looking. I was able to experience southern France finally at 55. So now Viva La Italia… Hope you well and in good spirits. Caio
You know that putting in some hard graft to turn the basic property into YOUR home is worth far more than having the millions to buy something that's already complete but, ultimately, is someone else's vision. 😊
Hi @AddColor2Life . If you do speak the language then the entire process and experience would be even better. I am learning and struggling but am getting there. It is up to the individual and depends where you settle. Tourist towns speak a few languages...the countryside is pure Italian.😊
Hey, really enjoying your videos and I don't want to sound negative here. But I found this really hard to watch as there are so many cuts in the footage. It's like there are 500 tiny clips all joined up and so each sentence is in about 10 different parts, meaning it doesn't flow. I'm watching each of your videos in order and just wanted to share this in case you do more of this style. Thanks and keep up the good work, it's really interesting and inspiring.
HI @TheWeightliftingTriathlete thanks for watching and for making contact. This one is not my usual style as it fits into a separate category I am making that covers all of the big questions I often get. The style is like this for two reasons - one - filming in public is hard so there are many cuts to clear out the people that come too close for a nosey. And - two - cutting out the breaths gets more infomration in. This would have been over an hour long and nobody would have watched it for that long. While this may not be great for normal content, when pushing out a load of information this format seems to work. It is one of the higher performing videos, so far. But, I agree. I hope you see from the main channel content that while there are a lot of cuts they add to the story and not distract. Thanks again. Richard.
Hi, your videos are an absolute joy. My partner and I love watching. We would like to relocate to France, so we watch many videos to find as much variation on that theme as possible. Continued success in your endeavours. Btw were between Manchester and Liverpool so we know exactly how you feel about weather, population etc. ATB Paul
Hi @rasclartrasclart8354 - that rural Cheshire is not quite the same as rural France or Italy! Best wishes for. your adventure - go for it. There is never the right house or the right time but you can make both over time.🙌
Hi, (be nice to know your name). That was a useful (and good cinematography too) video, and an excellent sell on the region. Could you pls share the names of the 2./3 estate agents who were good listeners? Thanks
@@threeacresofmarche Thanks. Very interested in Marche, but still also considering Northern Portugal. Probably a bit early to contact the agents now, so maybe I'll get back in touch further along the line. Good luck with house.
Hello from Ohio! Stumbled upon your channel probably because I just recently started following Wild Wonderful Off Grid. My husband and I spent 2 weeks in Northern Italy about 8 years ago and fell in love with all things Italian. We just retired and I am looking for a short term rental for 3 months every year to a warmer climate. Your area looks ideal! Any suggestions on websites to check out or who to contact in your region? Love the videos! I am an avid bird watcher and in one of your videos the bird song was amazing. If you think about it, bring a good pair of binoculars and a local bird guide (book) to start identifying the birds on your property when you sit on your deck.
Thank you @brendarushka9966 Just this week I had to run to get the camera as there was an almight bird song going on! I have not looked at the footage yet but I hope I caught the sound of it. Amazing. I love those that channel and would offer Josh and the family free accomodatin and food if he could come to do my wiring! How good is he at that?! Amazing channel. Very inspiring. 😂 I don't know much about rentals sorry. It may not be a bad idea to look at long lets on holiday home sites / house swap sites or even Air BnB. Sorry I cannot help more - I've never looked at that long rent thing. Good luck. I hope you get here soon.😎
Hi @tiborgarvelink1925 . I should really caveat that this is how it played out for me, in my region within the Le Marche region. Best triple check but I hope it helps to show the type of questions to ask if you are heading into soon.☺️
We love Italy and if we could afford a little place that needed a little tlc, not diy people, we would be there in a heartbeat. How does the 90 day rule work or have you had to get a visa. Love your channel. 😁🥂
The 90 day rule used to work just fine for me. Now that I feel that I need to be here more I am looking at the Digital Nomad visa. I will vlog the process once I get into it (soon).
Want to arrange a trip there to look at property but can't decide on Calabria/Umbria or somewhere around that east coast - Pescara or Senegallia? I know they don't speak English as much in the south but there's just something awesome about that region
I had two regions in mind that were interesting to me: Piedmont and Le Marche. And I chose Piedmont, I thought. Surprise, surprise,- your videos make me like le Marche more and more better.😉Hmm, not good, because in 6 weeks I'm traveling to Piedmont. The biggest problem for me are the real estate agents. I was not expecting that but ,- most of them don't speak English! That seems to be different in Le Marche. Even in Italian, nothing! No answer from anyone! Maybe the price range I'm in doesn't motivate them to make an effort? That's why I'll try to visit the agencies in person and talk to them - in Italian! Yessss, that could be exciting! I will see.😊Otherwise, after your nice offer, I ask you for help, maybe I'll come to Le Marche after all! Who knows ...! 😀 - Buona serata a te! -
Hi @gabrielar.6936 . I looked at Piedmont around the Asti region. I did'nt get into meeting agents there though so have no insight, sorry. Search for a Geometra and email them - that could open a door for you if you know the region within the region you are looking for. Geometra's cast their nets quite short and close to home. I think you are right about the agents - the big ticket houses are too great a pull. Fair enough....but the bargains are left to be found! Good luck. DM me on intstagram or contact me through the website (which will be up soon).
Hi guys , love the properties that you sharing with us, would be nice to know how much are those places after the taxes ,Meaning the final cost ! Thanks again
Hi @graceazar4637 . I paid 65,000 euros for my property. The property taxes are a pecentage of the purchase price. This video that you've comment on has a section explaining the costs and how they break down.👍
Just on length of stay. Do you have Irish ancestry or any from another EU country. If so, you maybe eligible for an EU passport. Not sure if you like your football or not but when Jack Charlton was Ireland manager he was recruiting players if their great grandad owned an Irish Wolf Hound 😁. Although it’s slightly stricter on passports. My parents were born in Ireland so I’m sorting my Irish passport before looking at a place, most probably in Italy. Love the country. I think you can go back as far as grand parents, maybe further but not sure. Only needs to be one grand parent, regardless of where their husband or wife is from. You’ve probably checked this but thought I’d mention it.
😂 Hello @franhunter4701 . No Irish in the family....I may have to get on some international dating sites and meet a lovely lady from that beautiful emerald isle.😁
Have you met many other 'expats' in the area that you live in ? Did you consider healthcare options when searching for your new home ? How far are you from the closest airport (Ancona?) in miles /kms? I live in Santa Cruz, California and am considering Italy as a retirement option. I'm glad you touched on Puglia as it is another part of Italy that I have considered as a place to live, in addition to LeMarche. How do you get by with the language difference ?
Hi @andrewveitch8515 . Ancona airport is 30 mins or so via the toll road. Not far. I have not checked the miles. Healthcare - as a Brit I get the NHS cover and I have private medical through my full time job. I have no specific healthcare in Italy. I could probably transfer my private healthcare to a european cover group, but I have not looked into that. I had Sanitas when I lived in Spain but that was cheap as I was young. The language is fine. The locals are very patient and supportive when I try. I tend to let queues die down rather than hold people up, which seems to help.
Listen thank you I've learned a lot today when you were talking about everything I am from the United States and I'd like to go over there I'm retiring so I might want to citizens Visa
What would it be like for a single older woman to live there? I don't want to not meet people but I would love to move to Italy and been thinking about it because it feels like home. My grandparents were born in Italy and I miss my Italian deceased father. I feel like it will help me feel like I belong again because I miss them so much and relate to the Italian culture so very much. Do many move there single and retired? Or mostly couples. Did you go it alone? Thank you. Luv your channel
Hi @catzee4720 Its a good question that I would like to say yes - no problem - but easy for me to say I suppose. I am meeting lots of people who are doing this sort of thing in couples but as many are single (men and women). I'm thinking of trying to get a few together to discuss this as I think it would help have views from those that have done the move.
@@threeacresofmarche wow, excellent idea. Thank you so much! That would be great. I mostly see couples channels and wish I had someone to move with but not letting that stop me. Life is short. I am planning for an extended two month stay this Aug and Sept. to look around and see where might live, vacation in Sardina first. So I am very excited.. The most ever stayed was two weeks. Maybe was thinking to see if there any meet up groups and seminars etc. thanks again for your great channel! ciao
Hi @karenwilliams8248 . I plan to put that level of detail in a blog post as then I can update that each year....I just need to find some time to sit down and write them up!😂
Hi @Nat-uu1nl . I have not rebuilt it - my plans had to change because of the complexities during planning permission. I have a series of videos in my channel that show the (slow) progress and how it all fits together as I travel between Italy and the UK.
Hi Richard! My husband and I are really enjoying your videos. We have recently decided to retire to Italy, and possibly to Marche. We will be looking for a completed house - the red tape doesn’t appeal to me. La dolce vita will commence when we arrive. 😂 How do we sign up for the newsletter? Would love to do so… thanks for all of the fabulous information!
Hi @heidiastacy . That sounds like a good plan - there are some spectacular houses around this region. I will pop a note on the community page when it is all ready to sign up. No rush - there is a lot going on this end so it may take me a few weeks to get the content ready and published. All good in time. Good luck with your search and dream retirement!
I'm still really enjoying the videos so thanks for taking the time, I know i'll love when you get to the renovations as well. Do you still think the total cost after renovations will be 200k, I know it's tough to guess as renos but i'm considering buying a place somewhere as well, it'll take me a few years of really saving every cent to have that kind of money to out.
HI @trevorsmith8603 . Good question - I had the 200k when planning a full build. Now that is off the table and I am 'making good', I have cut the budget way back. I am keeping notes on what I spend and where so will add that detail when I have enough to make some decent content. I think this is where the website that I am working on would better support this kind of detail for people looking at this in more detail.👍
Absolutely love how you’re sharing this. So raw so real so informative. Very cool to get away from the property we have a better understanding of the area and you’re what’s around you that drew you there. Thanks a million
The laid back style is different. Anyways, what is the footage of the home you purchased for $65k? The closing cost was very high but the yearly taxes very affordable. I am in Las Vegas and coming out in September to start exploring the possibility of buying a home. Won’t have much problems with the language since I speak English and Portuguese, fluent on both. Thank you for the nice video that validated my thoughts.
Great video - and I love watching the progress you're making on your place over there. Two questions, is the 9% property tax for holiday homes a one off payment and if you later decide to become a resident, I assume you don't get refunded the 6% excess (or does that all need to happen within the 18 month grace period)? Cheers!
Hi @AndyMoulton . The 9% is a one off payment, yes. I doubt there would be a refund if you went for residency a few years later. If you start the residency process during the first 18 months....I am unsure how that plays out if that passes 18 months before obtaining the residents status. That would need checking. In honesty, it all seems fair and transparant. One thing I am learning is while you may get advice / opinion - getting that in writing is a different thing entirely.👍
😂 Thank you @PeterPanMan . I 'erm and say 'so' too often and also pause and say the wrong thing (I just talk - no notes) so it needs a good edit. Besides - this was a lot of talking - it could have been an hour so I cut as much as I ccould and it seems to have landed well. I quite enjoy it....or maybe have watch too much @PeterMcKinnon inspiring videos😁
Good video. I was shocked by the 40k paper work costs. You mean that if you buy a 100k house you may have to pay 30-40k Eur on paperwork or did I misunderstand?
Hi @mradventurer8104 . The paperwork bill was to cover every aspect of the admin side - reports, surveys etc. Way too much for the house I have but that is what was presented to me. When I get a mo I will blog the detail. The roof quote I just had is interesting also!😂
Hi @johncorbett3109 . Thanks for the feedback. The 90 day thing is because of Brexit for us Brits. I can spend 90 days in the Schengen zone within every 180 day period. I have to leave and return to not over stay this rule. I have no idea what 'dezona mats' is sorry?!😂 Maybe I mumbled. A geometra is a professional person that covers the design, permission, project management etc of any changes or development you do on your house.
Hey Richard, I hope I didn’t miss this question, but is it possible to get an old house like yours, with a lot of land and then build a brand new house on it while living in the old house? Thanks!
Hi @kristian21 I imagine that would be possible but it would need a lot of 'paperwork' to get that through. I did not go that far into the research on a knock down house I was looking at to see if it could be used while the new one was being built. As the owners got wind that I was interested they put the price up so I walked away! There are many design and build companies advertising online that would know how this process works.
