The reason for split of Czechia and Slovakia in 1993 has its root deep in the begining of 20th century before countries even merged together. In Austro-Hungarian empire, kingdom of Bohemia (Czechia) was historical entity with longtime history and was part of Austrian part of the empire, where empire administration was tollerant to cultural differences of subjected kingdoms. Mostly czech population lived there, mainly in central parts, germans living in Bohemia mainly in border parts, were there for centuries, and they were rich - nobility was czech and german. Slovakia - former Upper Hungary, was northern part of kingdom of Hungary, and slovak population was ruled by hungarian nobility, and hungarian administration was more harsh towards cultural differences of subjected nations - in Upper Hungary there were no schools educating in Slovak language above elementary schools, so, there were hardly any elites speaking slovak and representing slovak nations culture. When after WW1 in 1918 Austro-Hungarian empire was dissolved, american president Woodrow Wilson was favoring emerging of new states, but those new states should mean stability in region and newly formed Czechoslovakia promised stability by creating nation of "czechoslovaks", which changed ratios - majority of czechoslovaks vs. minority of germans (and hungarians and poles). Leaders of Slovak nation saw opportunity in binding up with czechs better than staying in same state with Hungarians, where they would perish as the nation. But because, there were hardly any slovak people on the spot capable handling police stations, schools, offices e.g. running the state, there were many czech officers, clerks and teachers stationed all over Slovakia (and Transcarpathian Ruthenia, which was also part of Czechoslovakia). After 15 years (on the brink of WW2) there were enough of Slovakian people capable to handle the state, but Prague was not keen to take away posts from those loyal Czechs stationed in Slovakia, so there was understandable grudge and feeling of betrayal on slovakian part. Also because eastern Slovakia and Transcarpathian Ruthenia were more rural and undeveloped, great part of expenditures for development went there, so Czechs felt that they are paying development and reaping hate. Then there came WW2, Czechia had been ripped apart by Munchen Agreement and annected not long time after, Slovakia become nazi puppet state, Transcarpathian Ruthenia was taken by Hungary. After WW2, Slovakia as a state would be "punished" for standing on the bad side of the conflict, and being subjugated by Soviet Union, but at the same time in Czechia there was strong affiliation of common people towards communism, so Soviet Union supported unification of Czechoslovakia and subjugating the whole state under their influence, while taking Transcarpathian Ruthenia for good as part of USSR. And Germans (even antinazi resistance fighters and german speaking jews) were casted out of the state. While under communist rule and under supervision of USSR advisors, there was no time to think about mutual discrepancies of Czechs and Slovaks, but after fall of communist rule with renewed freedom, Slovaks felt their opportunity to have their own state, and Czech authorities mostly didn't care too much. in hearts of common people, there was feeling of incomprehension, I would say mostly on the Czech side, but because the split was so easy and painless, there is opportuinty for mutual good feelings toward the other nation and many young people study on colleges in the other country and that refuels mutual bond. That is my point of view as a Czech, I hope that it cast some light on this complex topic.

All is in brutto, that means before taxation and other obligatory transfers like health and social insurance. Such a mistake right from the start - Germany did not invade Czechoslovakia by force, we would have been able to defend ourselves, we have comlexity bunkers & fortress system around borders, but the vile betrayal of the British and French made us a scapegoat for Hitler, thinking that this would prevent World War II. The Czechoslovak military industry was the most advanced in all of Europe at the time, and all our weapons and factories helped Germany get this far, even though most of the people in the factories tried to sabotage the manufactured weapons.

4:58 fun fact - our current president Petr Pavel used to be 2ic of NATO, so I think he's the only person (it was said somewhere) to have taken a less powerful/lower role in the similar area of interest (usually people go from the bottom to the top, for example from the government to being just part of NATO somehow, however, he became a president of our small country after resigning from the 2ic of NATO spot) :D

If you want to know why Czechoslovakia split, you have to ask the Slovaks as it was their idea. And when they brought it up, Czechs were like "yeah, whatever..." 😂

Our comblocks are actually capitalistblocks, because many of them (maybe most of them) are Danish Larsen-Nielsen system. Yes, commies paid to Denmark to use their patent to build comblocks. 🙂 When you use street view and check some Danish cities, you will see completely the same blocks, just not in that big scale like we have. These are completely different than piece of crap you can find in actual former Soviet Union, our Czech ones are much better and it doesn't look like in the picture in 7:19 anymore, that picture must be like 15-20 years old because that was exactly the time when they started painting them, now you barealy find some of them that are still grey, especially in Prague. I actually kind of like them, you have a lot of greenery and space around you and quality of that place is better than what today developers build, those crazy places where you have fences and barriers everywhere and it's designed for cars, not for people. Fun fact: Fried cheese is mostly overpriced on purpose, because it's considered food of cuisine barbarians and they don't want to make it, so they set price to nonsense, but people are that stupid, that they order it even for such price. 🙂 Judging living standard by price of beer is not literally ideal, Czech Republic is actually pretty expensive country, grocery shopping may be even more expensive than in Germany and ofcourse quality for that money is lower. Average salary 1700 USD is correct, but it's average (which means that one person has everything and second person has nothing) and ofcourse it's salary before tax. When you have 1680 eur brutto, you end with like 1300 eur after tax if you don't have kids, if you have kids, you will get more money. It doesn't look that bad compared to other former communist countries, but when you pay 1100 eur rent of apartment and your netto salary is 1300, it doesn't look that good. Better than average salary is to look at median salary, which is currently 1466 eur before tax, that doesn't look really great compared to our housing prices. What is absolute bizarre for me is why people from other former communist countries like Romania work here, why they don't go to Germany? It doesn't make any sense to me.

TRUE - average statistical Czech salary is really 1750 EUR - in Prague is statistical average 2246 EUR

In a few words - Czechoslovakia was artificially created country in 1918 and it was good while it lasted (no more German rule); however, there are deep-rooted differences between these two nationalities, and at the end of the day, the split was peaceful and good for both parties.

9:19 the thing you would not realize as a tourist is the actual cost of living. While general goods may seam cheaper (especial after conversion to CZK from Euro), the cost of living is pretty high, especially in Prague. Out of that 1700 dollars, I would spend 1000 on flat/water/electricity every month. And i don't even live in a big and nice flat...... and that's before taking into an account gas, internet connection, cell phone,.....

One more fact. In the begining of space exploration the Czechoslovakia was the 3rd historic country that had their astronaut in space. After Soviet Union and USA of course.

average net salary in Czech is like about 1500$. Maybe in Prague it could be close to 1700$. In Italy you must have about 2000$ average

about the average salary - it should be true, because nowadays the number is stated as even higher (statistically, not speaking from experience from close people), yes, in prague its obviously much more than in other parts of the country, but nowadays its estimated to be around 1 897$ on average (of course that average is a really wide term, not many people achieve that big of a salary)

the price of beer on yours video is very high, normal price of pilsen is 50-60, at me home vilage pub cost beer Hostan 30kč (its like 1.2eur).
