These are all some old traditional foods. I have to say most of them were eaten "wrong" way. Kalakukko is mostly local food in city of Kuopio I mean you can find it elsewhere too but not that much. It should be eaten fresh and warm with butter and then it's good. Viili should be eaten with jam or something with it and those were absolutly worst looking karjalanpiirakka I have ever seen don't know where they found em.

Those Karelian pies looked like someone read instructions how to make them, but did not actually have a clue what they were doing 😅 If I didn't know what they were supposed to be, I wouldn't have recognised them as karelian pies 😅 And the cabbage rolls looked very suspicious too. Makes me wonder how was the taste on the other stuff, were they even close to what those are supposed to be.

My mother-in-law showed how to make actual Carelian Pies. it's a little tricky to make it right. Those ones in video were made by someone who could'nt "nip" the bread and they were left open around the rice filling.

I wouldn't get that basic salmiakki either. It's like grandpa salmiakki. The cabbage rolls are made and eaten in several countries. It's a tasty dish. Sharp knife makes eating them easier. They shouldn't look that green though. Karelian pies are eaten with toppings like bread. Egg-butter is a traditional topping. They are delicious when fresh from the oven. Mämmi you can grow an addiction to. You can get it also without added sugar. Also with mocha. The traditional dishes usually have humble beginnings: "1000 years ago KALAKUKKO bread".

You can have kalakukko without the fish. My favourite kalakukko is made with swede😜 (rutabaga)!

you can order kalakukko without fish but some other meat or veggie version...... it just doesnt make sence to call it that.... but these are brithish people we all know their knowledge of food
