The epitome of Finnish sisu. He just refused to be handicapped. An absolute legend 💪

There is saying in Finland "Sisulla vaikka läpi harmaan kiven" (With "sisu" even through the grey rock). This guy took it literally 💪

He also went out to the lake to fish using the radio as a compas. He found a channel with low quality and static to get a direction where he could hear the radio station. Then he gave the fish to his neighbor because he didn't eat fish.

I worked for a while in a college which was a boarding school mostly for blind and deaf people, once the blind people learned their route from their room at the dorm to the school building, and then the routes inside the building, they needed very little help, that is how good they are navigating when they know where they are right now. I was super Impressed.

My husband is blind. Since birth. Some things he can do by himself. But something like this, he would be amazed, too.

Woman version is Aira Samulin. She was "pikkulotta" in the winter war and celebrity in Finland. She was dance teacher. She lived almost 100 years old and kept dancing classes till the end. She died last year. She teached dance for Ukrainians also because she was sad for them and wanted them to think something else than war even a little wile. She still remembered our winter war times. She was super woman and faces of sisu as well. She were better shape than many young finns and danced good even that age.

Thanks for your reaction to this one! RU-vid recommendation indeed did trick to you, suggested Part III after Part I, so yea Part II is unwatched, but luckily in this case Part III mostly showed only clips at Part I. This man really was and still is my personal life idol, hero who I never known. But once again, thanks a lot for reacting this. :)

Definition of sisu. Ive always seen it as a negative thing. "I got dealt bad cards, thats why I show you Im doing it, not caring if I die doing it"

9:00 Get a couple of ducks or geese for the summer, they will eat snails from the garden faster than sound and you will have a delicious roast for Christmas

We have got a special phrase for elderly people like him. It's tervaskanto (a resinous stump and it roughly means the same as a stager as english phrase). It is very hard to describe this phrase in english since there isn't any direct translation. Tervaskanto is like the next level of sisu. An older person which has been boiled in hardships but keeps going on and has learnt to be self sufficient and resourceful with every aspect in life. Gosh I miss my granpa now. He was like Venninen except he wasn't blind. My granpa created art too, he made sculptures out of metal and cement also painted pictures. These old time finnish war veterans were something else.

43:15 "ja hän lähti saappaat jalassa" (and he left with his boots on) is a saying when someone dies in the middle of work, for example through an accident. In this case, he kept on working til his body gave up.

Never heard of him before. He sertainly could do more then most of normal people. One thing that came into my mind was what kind of hygieny he had in his place. That blender sure didn´t look very clean. Also the clothes and shoes looked horrible. But as i blind he just couldn´t see that himself.

Ffs, i've only watched 5mins this and all that cames to my mind is youngsters and even adults complaining(crying) that live is too hard and everything should be done to them... Yeah i knew this guys story already but it still amazes me. I dont think this guy is whining about any harsh conditions or if goverment doesnt build him a house. He DONT need any of those. This guy is just steel. Gotta add here that i woulnd think i would survive alive for 1 fking winter with healthy body, good sight and decent fysical strenghts... Restecpa!

This is just so unrealistic way of life in modern Finland that i envy sooooo much. This guy literally lives from the nature. And loves life so much that even he is old, lost hes sight and i dont want to even know what else he've lost in life, he still lives like he really want to live. Im not proud to say this but i've prolly killed my self long time ago before being in this situation.
