Beautiful Italian Stiletto Switchblade Knife Restoration.
I found this knife at an antique store. I like Italian knives, so I decided to restore this knife. The stiletto was broken - the spring and button were broken. I restored everything and made a new handle from antlers. I hope you liked my restoration.

My dad passed away was in the Korean War and I got what looks to be the same design as this knife in his toolbox but black handle and push button also doesn't work. This has inspired me to get it restored to working condition.

Beautiful restoration! I do wish the scales we’re a little thinner or tapered at the ends, but that’s a minor nitpick. I’d gladly take it! 😀

Awesome result and those knives are such classics too. It's great to see them brought back to life, but I suspect that they actually look much nicer now than they did when brand new!

Very nice refurbishing project. Looks really nice. Most people using bone antler usually tapers it off towards the bolsters at both ends. It gives it a more smoother finish. Just an idea. Otherwise perfect...

Excellent job. I have a general love of switchblades and the traditional Italian stiletto type in particular. I believe this is a Taiwanese manufactured copy, despite being marked Italy. But no matter. The Taiwan made versions are generally good quality and typically more ruggedly built than the Italian ones! I don't know what country you're in, but here in the United States it's possible to obtain general purpose parts for these types of knives, which can save a lot of labor. There's also soft steel fine bristle wire wheels available from Brownells, which is our largest gunsmithing supply company, which are excellent for removing surface rust and corrosion. They aren't aggressive like common wire wheels and won't cut metal. I've made extensive use of them in gunsmithing. They don't damage bluing or nickel plating, and leave a fine satin polish on bare steel, brass and aluminum. Saves a lot of hand labor, if you can get them.

I knew a television repairman back in the late 1970's and he carried a switchblade in his toolbox and used it all the time because he could easily open it with one hand. To him, it was just another tool in his toolbox.

Next, make a blade for it out of modern steel and get rid of the (supposed) 440 stainless. That would be a worthwhile challenge. I have an old, cheap stiletto I bought in Mexico in the 70's. You know, from a roadside vendor selling really crappy stuff in Tijuana. Nothing like an actual Italian knife. It would be fun to turn it into a nice knife, but the time and money involved makes it not too terribly attractive. I can build a new switchblade and not spend much more. I like your work. Take it to the next level.

I have my grandpas and have been hesitant to tear into it cuz of the riveting. The spring is good but the locking pin must've had a little sheared off a little bit cuz the blade won't stay locked. Can hear it click but if you relax your closing hand it clicks open again. I might try to restore it but will keep the scales as is
