Lara is Belgian (birth) Canadian (citizen). She spent the first six years of her life in Sicily (her mother's land) before returning to Belgium until she was eighteen when she left for Canada. So Italian and French are her native languages and she also has an American grandfather (therefore fluent English for her). She can sing in twelve languages (French, Italian, English, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Turkish, Hebrew, ...) It's "Sorrento" in Italian but "Surriento" in the Neapolitan dialect I believe. And as she is singing it in the original dialect: she is right! 😜

In addition, Caruso spent many years at the Met in New York, so a slight USA accent, may have crept into the speech patterns of Caruso and his wife, so this may be an artistic choice by Lara Fabian. Either that, or it may be a happy accident.

That prononciation of sorrento was not "american", it was napolitan. it was the right way to sing it in this context.

You keep killing me when you compare Lara to Celine! Celine on her finest day couldn't have pulled off that performance! Don't get me wrong, Celine is of that higher level you speak of....she's amazing..But Lara Fabian is Celine with soul plus she speaks alot more languages and sings in more languages than Celine does. Lara also writes many of her own stuff as well! Celine has a group of talented writers that takes care of what she sings. I'm thinking, maybe people should be comparing Céline Dion to Lara Fabian and not the other way around. Other than that...I loved hearing your input on Lara's Italian!

Celine has used "autotune" since the day it was invented in the late 80's. She uses it in the studio and live on stage ! Lara has never used it. "ever" ! This video is from the guy that invented "autotune" and one our best scientists explaining it. the only reason the comparison was made is because Celine Dion become popular internationaly before Lara. I'm a french Canadian like Celine but i prefer Lara and i think her voice is better than Celine and more powerfull, more emotional she live the song. Celine are very good but i don't feel the same emotion. Lara is far better for me.

I think Lara is from Belgium but speaks Italian almost as good as her own 1st language. Of, course Lara is an international super star so it doesn't matter what language she speaks or sings she is the the best!!!!

I went 3 times in Italy, Venice a long time ago, then Naples in 2017 and Florence and i can say that Naples was my best souvenir ❤ The level of energy of the people is incredible and when i came back in France it was like returning to a graveyard 😞 I love Italy, and i hope to return one day. Keep up your incredibile spirit 👍 Hey, i will see Lara in concert in december 2025, in Paris, it will be a long wait, hope i will see her before that 🙄

Lara is half Italian and half Belgium. She speaks and sings in five languages clearly and perfectly. I don't think you all have heard or reacted to one of Lara Fabian's most incredible songs that she has ever recorded aside from this great song. The song is called Quedate. But, brace yourselves. It's is deep and powerful beyond human words.

I have the same family story as Lara Fabian, italian grandparents who immigrated to Belgium, all my family always kept a physical and emotional connection to Italy, and especially Napoli. On top of that, my nonno (grandfather) was a great singer, so I heard him singing classic neapolitan opera all my childhood. As you can imagine, I can't listen to this masterpiece, especially sang by her, without crying and thinking about him.

As an English speaking American, don't be pressured to talk in any language you don't want to, I always turn on the subtitles and that is totally fine! You should do what is comfortable for you! That being said you did make me laugh when describing your English abilities, and you don't have to worry your English was great!

She speaks perfect Italian, her mother was Italian, and Caruso changed a few words to the song to be able to sing it, she studied for 10 years at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, since she was 8 years old, she is great.

Lara Fabian fan right here! 🙌🏼😅 She was actually born in Belgium, but her mom if from Sicilia so she learned from a young age to speak Italian. Also, her current husband is from Sicilia too. In the 90's she signed a contract with a big music label, the same as Celine, but all of a sudden they dropped her, so that's why she doesn't have the "big American career". But she has the same talent, or even better talent, than most A list singers we know. She has an incredible voice and besides that, she's an incredible person 💗💗💗 Maybe next time you could react to the live version of "La Solitudine" with Laura Pausini and Lara Fabian singing together! I would love to see your reaction to that video!

Fun reaction. Grazie! Pedere L'Amore next, yes? Yes, she was singing in dialect from the beginning - hence Surriento. Your English is great. No worries. Cutting pieces of the performance shouldn't be necessary to avoid problems with youtube. Just stopping the vid and speaking as you do is enough. Is there another reason you cut out chunks of the song? Fabian, imo, is brilliant. She has extreme facility with language acquisition: absolutely fluent and writes songs in French, Italian, English, Spanish. Understands several more. Sings very, very competently according to native speakers in 12. Describes herself as a Songwriter with a voice. She's like Dion but with the ability to emote. Like comparing a box of 8 crayons to the deluxe 120 crayola crayon set the way Fabian can color every single thing exactly the way she wants.

We (Quebequois) have known Lara from her very first steps as a 'professional' singer. She was a rising star even before her first album, and Montrealers all knew of her talents, as of course she was living and performing here, (as were Céline, Ginette, Llhasa, 'la Dufresne' and many others just as fabulous, at more or less the same time) . Unfortunately, in Canada, what's in Quebec stays in Quebec, so artists have always had to make their name in Europe. Even so, Lara is far from unknown, she has sold quite a few million albums worldwide.

Sorry to burst your bubble. Lara is not Italian , she was born in Belgium, raised in Canada. She is so gifted she writes many of her songs , sings and speaks French of course, Italian, Spanish , Portuguese, Hebrew, Russian. And a little Farsi, I think! And PLEASE, PLEASE , do not compare her to any other singer. She is in a class that no other will ever achieve. Yes I'm in love with LARA the GODDESS of music.

'Born in Belgium', yes ..however, [Fabian] was *not* ' _raised_ in Canada'. She was raised, that is, her upbringing took place predominately in Belgium after having spent the first 4 and a half years of her life in Italy which, no doubt, heavily influenced her early development as well. She moved, as an adult(shortly before she turned 20), to North America i.e., Canada, in the hopes of advancing her career.

as was noted, "Caruso" was written to honor Enrico Caruso, the great Italian tenor who died young, shortly after his daughter was born.....this piece imagines Caruso's last words to his wife and his daughter........"Te voglio bene assai' (I love you very much)....originally written for a male tenor, all the great (and near great) male and female operatic performers have sung this piece

@Ar Zinzin Bonjour à toi! Premièrement je ne suis pa Français, deuxièmement je ne parle pas italien et troisièmement: que ça vous "dégoûte" , même si je trouve cela un peu fort, cela vous appartient. Quatrièmement l' Anglais n'est-il pas la langue internationale officielle ? Cinquièmement, moi aussi je trouve que l'académie Française malmène la langue. Des mots comme Brainstorming, parking etc. etc. Merci à toi, je te souhaite une magnifique journée...ou soirée! P.S. Il est plus facile pour quelqu'un dont la langue est d'origine latine de comprendre une autre langue d'origine latine par l' écrit plutôt que par l'oral. Si ces deux "youtubeurs " avaient parlés uniquement en Italien , je n'y aurait rien compris. Bien sûr , j'aurait pu utiliser "Google translate" pour leur répondre par écrit.

I’m Canadian and a Quebecer from Montreal, so I know Celine’s singing it is excellent just like Lara, who lives in Montreal. Lara’s still is full of emotion and passion. Hi, I definitely reccomend listening to "Adagio" by Lara, and actually, it has not only an English version, but also an Italian one. "Je T'ame" from the concert in Paris and "Requiem pour un fou duet" - a duet Lara and Johnny. Amazing performances!)
