Lyrics: Italian: In periferia fa molto caldo Mamma stai tranquilla, sto arrivando Te la prenderai per un bugiardo Ti sembrava amore ma era altro Beve champagne sotto Ramadan Alla TV danno Jackie Chan Fuma narghilè, mi chiede come va Mi chiede come va, come va, come va Sai già come va, come va, come va Penso più veloce per capire se domani tu mi fregherai Non ho tempo per chiarire perché solo ora so cosa sei È difficile stare al mondo Quando perdi l'orgoglio Lasci casa in un giorno Tu dimmi se Pensavi solo ai soldi, soldi Come se avessi avuto soldi, soldi Dimmi se ti manco o te ne fotti, fotti Mi chiedevi come va, come va, come va Adesso come va, come va, come va G-U-E, sono così vero se parlo di cash Che penserai che 'sto pezzo davvero è su di te Volando in alto dovevo aspettarmi turbolenza In confidenza, perdita di coscienza, aha Ti ho conosciuta a SoHo Sei andata dritta al sodo, dritta al soldo Adesso piango su una Rolls-Royce Dicevi "Ti accontenti se tieni lo sguardo giù" La strada non mi basta più Ho messo ghiaccio adesso, igloo A me non mi hanno mai cambiato, li ho cambiati io Ma ti confesso che mi manchi tu e mi manca un dio Negli occhi ho luci fluo ma dentro sento frío Ho preferito pagarti che dirti in faccia addio Volevi solo soldi, soldi Come se avessi avuto soldi, soldi Prima mi parlavi fino a tardi, tardi Mi chiedevi come va, come va, come va Adesso come va, come va, come va (wooh) Waladi waladi habibi ta'aleena Mi dicevi giocando, giocando con aria fiera Waladi waladi habibi, sembrava vera La voglia, la voglia di tornare come prima Io da te non ho voluto soldi È difficile stare al mondo Quando perdi l'orgoglio Lasci casa in un giorno Tu dimmi se Volevi solo soldi, soldi Come se avessi avuto soldi, soldi Lasci la città ma nessuno lo sa Ieri eri qua, ora dove sei papà? Mi chiedi come va, come va, come va Sai già come va, come va, come vaIn periferia fa molto caldo Mamma stai tranquilla, sto arrivando Te la prenderai per un bugiardo Ti sembrava amore ma era altro Beve champagne sotto Ramadan Alla TV danno Jackie Chan Fuma narghilè, mi chiede come va Mi chiede come va, come va, come va Sai già come va, come va, come va Penso più veloce per capire se domani tu mi fregherai Non ho tempo per chiarire perché solo ora so cosa sei È difficile stare al mondo Quando perdi l'orgoglio Lasci casa in un giorno Tu dimmi se Pensavi solo ai soldi, soldi Come se avessi avuto soldi, soldi Dimmi se ti manco o te ne fotti, fotti Mi chiedevi come va, come va, come va Adesso come va, come va, come va G-U-E, sono così vero se parlo di cash Che penserai che 'sto pezzo davvero è su di te Volando in alto dovevo aspettarmi turbolenza In confidenza, perdita di coscienza, aha Ti ho conosciuta a SoHo Sei andata dritta al sodo, dritta al soldo Adesso piango su una Rolls-Royce Dicevi "Ti accontenti se tieni lo sguardo giù" La strada non mi basta più Ho messo ghiaccio adesso, igloo A me non mi hanno mai cambiato, li ho cambiati io Ma ti confesso che mi manchi tu e mi manca un dio Negli occhi ho luci fluo ma dentro sento frío Ho preferito pagarti che dirti in faccia addio Volevi solo soldi, soldi Come se avessi avuto soldi, soldi Prima mi parlavi fino a tardi, tardi Mi chiedevi come va, come va, come va Adesso come va, come va, come va (wooh) Waladi waladi habibi ta'aleena Mi dicevi giocando, giocando con aria fiera Waladi waladi habibi, sembrava vera La voglia, la voglia di tornare come prima Io da te non ho voluto soldi È difficile stare al mondo Quando perdi l'orgoglio Lasci casa in un giorno Tu dimmi se Volevi solo soldi, soldi Come se avessi avuto soldi, soldi Lasci la città ma nessuno lo sa Ieri eri qua, ora dove sei papà? You ask me how I’m doing, doing, doing You already know how things are going, going, going
He sings about the egyptian father who abandoned the family when he was kid and came back only for asking for money (there are some verse in Arabic in the song also). But you can easily find english lyrics on internet or RU-vid, they are gold.
Darling, the song it's dedicated to his father which left him when he was baby . Apparently the father tried to catch money by him . "Soldi" does means money .
I would just like to highlight something: THIS SONG GOES beyond the upper layer meaning of the lyrics: he uses Arab and mentions drinking during Ramadan. Italy is going through an extremely socially tense historical period, where racial conflicts and xenophobia are raging. Second generation children and people with mixed Italian origins are going through difficult identity issues because of it. He has mixed origins, but has grown up losing one part of his identity. Growing up in the suburbs with an Italian single mother. Feeling the loss of his father not only as an absence of a paternal figure, but also for a cultural and existential bridge, which he needs in order to grow prideful and strong of an essential part of himself: the Arabic and muslim part. So his father's absence together with the negative memories left behind hurt him in more deep ways.Quote "I never wanted any money from you", meaning he didn't feel the need of economical support as much as that of existential pride. Being Italian but not only has not been easy in the last few years. I hope it helps
"Soldi" is the story of a boy and his trobled relationshiip with a shitty father. Stop. Nothing about cultural bridges (his fathere left him very early). Nothing about racial troubles, because in Italy " Blacks" are an insignificant minority in the whole immigration world. Nothing about second generation; Mahmood has a Italian mother. Nothing about politics.
Hi! Try to react to these songs 😊: Caparezza - Ti fa stare bene Levante - Pezzo di me Nitro - Rotten Eugenio in Via di Gioia- Camera mia Madame - Sciccherie Thy aren't the most famous singers of Italy, but they are original and interesting. I think they show, in a beautiful way, the creative soul of italian art 😊
Mahmood is half-Italian (maternally) and half-Egyptian (paternally). The song is about the absence of his dad in his childhood, whom he accuses of being solely interested in his money (soldi means money in Italian). So, it's an emotional song with a meaning. This is the real translation, the one they sent you unfortunately are 2 texts of 2 songs together, and different singers, practically a mix. Lyrics in english from the official eurovision page. It’s quite hot in the suburbs Mum, don’t worry, I’m on my way home You will be disappointed by a liar It looked like love to you but it was something else He drinks champagne during Ramadan On the telly they are airing Jackie Chan He smokes shisha. He asks me how I’m doing He asks me «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» You already know how things are going, how things are going, how things are going. I think faster trying to figure out whether tomorrow you will fool me I got no time to clear things up Because only now I found out what you are Being alive it’s not easy When you lose your pride You leave home out of the blue You, tell me whether You only thought about money, money As if I have had any money, money Tell me whether you miss me or you don’t give a damn You used to ask me «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» Now how things are going, how things are going, how things are going? You haven’t told yet what you had to tell Betrayal is a bullet in the chest Keep all your mercy to yourself You keep lying at home but you know that she knows (Sittin’) on a chair she’ll be asking me You ask me «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» You already know how things are going, how things are going, how things are going. I I think faster trying to figure out whether tomorrow you will fool me I got no time to clear things up Because only now I found out what you are Being alive it’s not easy When you lose your pride I figured it out in one second That you, from me You only wanted money, money As if I have had any money, money Before, you used to talk to me till late You used to ask me «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» Now how things are going, how things are going, how things are going? «My son, my son, darling, come over here» You used to tell me while playing, looking proud «My son, my son, darling», it looked real your wish, your wish to bring things back to what they were I - from you - didn’t want any money… Being alive it’s not easy When you lose your pride You leave home out of the blue You, tell me if You only wanted money, money As if I had any money, money You leave the city without anybody knowing Yesterday you were here, where are you now, dad? You ask me «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» «How are you doing?» You already know how things are going, how things are going, how things are going.
