As you know, we recently moved to Naples, Italy. After buying a car and getting semi-settled, we finally were able to get out and explore. In this I'll be taking you along with me and my family as we explore our new home Naples, Italy. We'll be walking the streets of Naples as locals, trying some Italian food, seeing some popular tourist attractions, and much more.

Hi Jaleesa! I just accepted a position there, but have been watching your videos since the position opened months ago 😂. Now that I have accepted it, I keep hearing that it is difficult for people of color in Naples specifically. If you have mentioned this, it must have been brief because I don't recall you saying it was so prevalent. What has been your experience? I know you'll be leaving soon 😢 but perhaps a video on this before you depart... Or just tell me, because now I'm a little worried 😂 thank you!

Congratulations on your job offer 👏 A job offer overseas is an amazing and exciting opportunity, so cheers to you 🍾🍾🍾 In regards to my experience living in Naples as a black woman, I have postponed creating a video on this topic since my family has only lived here for a year and a half and to be fair and honest, I did not feel like that was enough time to give a full assessment. I can admit that I have experienced some small minor interactions with the locals that I've walked away from questioning whether I was treated a certain way because I am black. However, those interactions have been extremely minor and have only happened twice. The only instance where a local has blatantly treated my family differently was when my husband was in line at a pharmacy and the clerk motioned the Italian behind him to go next before him. My husband was clearly next in line and thankfully the guy behind him told the clerk my husband was first. Despite this uncomfortable and hurtful experience, my husband and I enjoy living in Italy (specifically Naples) and we have ranked Italy as one of the top countries we are considering calling home once my husband is out of the Navy. We have had more positive experiences living here in Naples than negative. To be a little nervous is normal and understandable but don't worry too much. I'm sure you will have mostly positive experiences and this is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in a different culture and travel 😊✈

@@jaleesa.daniels_ thank you so much for sharing your experience. I am currently overseas in Japan and I think it's pretty much the same experience as you shared. That walk away questioning myself is definitely familiar. I am so glad you haven't had the experiences I keep hearing about, which were more blatant. You never know if it's true or exaggerated or perception. Thank you so much again!

You're welcome 😊 If you're currently living overseas, then the adjustment to Italy won't be too difficult. My husband was stationed in Japan years ago. He has always expressed that he had a more friendly experience in Japan with the locals compared to Italy. Overall, his experience in Italy has been good and thankfully we have not experienced any blatant racist encounters minus the one I shared before.
