I always had to re-adjust the length of the straps after unpacking it. This gives me the possibility to just click them in with the right length. I could have had used a pen to mark it, but hey: it's cooler and less fiddlier.
With this I don't have to find and adjust the the position of the pegs everytime when I set up the kayak. Given that the length of your legs is pretty constant, it makes it quicker.
