I was just a kid, about 8 or 9 years old, going through my garage and found a box in the corner. Inside was my dad's Original Xbox and a ton of games. I thought it was cool, but there was one game that caught my eye. A game that had the picture of a giant green stormtrooper looking guy, holding a gun in each hand. Behind him, a burning city, and in front of him, in blue bold letters, five characters. "Halo 2." It was the coolest box cover that I had ever seen. From that moment forward, I was a Halo fan.

I remember the first time I saw Halo Reach. I had been very late to the party on Halo 3, my father had both CE and 2 already, and we didn't have a 360, so by the time I got one along with Halo 3, it was already 2010 and Halo Reach was well on its way to being released. I didn't use the internet much, I had been taught that youtube was terrifying and full of illegal stuff, so I didn't notice anything about the games release. Then, one night, I was at a house party my parents had taken me too so they wouldn't have to get a sitter, and the hosts son, who was a good few years older than me, was playing Halo Reach on the TV in the living room. I watched from the door, before advancing to the couch and sitting down next to him. I had literally no idea what it was. It looked like Halo, and I recognised some of the weapons and enemies, but I couldn't for the life of me work out what game he was playing, as it looked nothing like Halo 3. Eventually he kind of noticed me and asked if I wanted to have a go, as he had a different party to go too and was already on his way out the door. He just restarted the mission he was playing, Tip of the Spear, and handed me the controller, and I swear to god it was like I was playing some childhood dream. Everything I had ever imagined seeing in Halo was there, I remember just being stunned at the grenade launcher on startup, followed by the fuel rod turrets (something so bizarre and amazing to me that I couldn't even put it into words later), and then the rocket hog, which was just insane fun. But I think the part that left the biggest impact on me was the approach to the first AA gun, when I rounded a corner and fought the first ghosts it throws at you, followed by the revenant, a vehicle I had never seen before and immediately thought I had to have. I remember reloading the checkpoint at least five times to try and board it without it getting damaged. I will never be able to recreate the joy I felt when I finally got it and was able to understand that it was, in fact, a hybrid between a ghost and a wraith. Nobody at school believed me when I told them about it, they thought I was just making it up, and of course I couldn't just pull out my phone and show them an image because I was a small child and I didn't have one. It was like a weird fairy tale of a game, like it only existed in my head until my neighbour eventually got Reach and we played forge mode together. I'll never forget that, and it makes me so sad that the Revenant hasn't appeared again in a Halo game. That stupid pink vehicle defined a massive portion of my childhood.

It has quite open ended encounters imo. Not the _most_ open in the series, but the level design in general is much more "arena" like (probably because much of it doubled up as multiplayer maps) and that can add a lot of opportunity for you to tackle encounters in slightly different ways each time. Depending on difficulty too, things that work on normal won't necessarily work on heroic or legendary. That's true of all the Halo games to some extent really, but I think Reach capitalized on it more. Maybe not even intentionally.
@justinnyugen7015

There isn't really an auto-skip level for me as there have been with the others (no Library/Two Betrayals, Oracle/Sacred Icon/Quarantine Zone, Cortana). Closest I can get to that is maybe the opening part of The Package, but other than that I think Reach did a good job of learning from past mission mistakes.

This reminds me of my first time playing Halo CE. Something as simple as the army ammo packs on the ground really immersed me. You could see the logic to it, even though I was a kid and had never seen a disposable blister/plastic Ammo pack, it just made sense. Everything about the games had something deep to it, something careful. Each new game was a significant leap ahead. Halo 2 was a bit muddy because it was locked in by the original xbox graphics, but the menu system, the online, the clans, the maps, the physics, it was just awesome. No game got close at that time. I never will forget getting off the bus on an early release day and coming home to Halo:Reach if I remember correctly Reach and Black Ops released around the same time. But let me tell you how much fun was to be had.

I still think that there has not been a game released that looks as good as Reach. The skyboxes are absolutely insane and inspire an enormous desire to explore that world. I wanted a PlayStation 3 so badly and I went to my friends house and played Reach one more time and I hands down decided that it was going to be an Xbox 360 that I was going to get. Because I wanted to play my favorite game. And it’s still one of my very favorite games today. I have no memories in any other game in multiplayer like I do in Reach. I met people and played endless custom games and forge with people. It was an incredible time to be alive. Makes me feel like today sucks.

I was 22 in 2010 when Reach dropped, I rememeber Deliver Hope traumatising me, it was just so haunting. If Halo gets a good movie, especially focused on the UNSC's struggle and not Forerunner space magic, then it has to be in the same soul-scarring fashion as The Thin Red Line, Saving Private Ryan and Black Hawk Down were made in.

And when DLC released, it was actual DLC that added to the content already there - and it was either free or like $20 max for a LOT of stuff. Now, DLC is just a better way of saying "here's a Patch update to get our game closer to actually being finished, plus 1 map and a new skin to make it look like it's not a Patch. Also it's only in our $60 season pass."

I have to be honest, I didn't really like Reach multiplayer very much back in the day. But after Reach came to MCC and MCC came to PC, I realized how freaking good that game was. This is partially because the game had been tweaked over the years (particularly talking about bloom on the DMR). But I feel bad that I didn't appreciate it as much when it first came out. Halo 3 was and is a better game, and always will be, but Reach was very good after a few tweaks.
@yewtewbstew547
@yewtewbstew547 Год назад
Yeah I'm definitely one of the crowd who didn't like the bloom or loadouts either. The armour abilities were _okay,_ basically just an evolution of the utility items in 3. All of that stuff was fine in the campaign. On the bright side, back then, Reach didn't kill Halo 3 or anything. Both games had a healthy player population, so you could just play whatever. Even Halo 2 retained a strong playerbase up until Microsoft killed the original Xbox Live.

Reach’s Firefight was the greatest and is the greatest of all time. I remember pre ordering two of the limited edition “Black Box” editions of Reach. I still keep them in pristine condition. I just need to buy the Reach Edition 360S to complete my Reach collection.

I was barely even alive when the halo games came out. 2001 and 2004 I still wasn’t born yet, 2007 I was only year old, 2010 I was 4, 2012, I was 6, and 2015 I was 9. So yeah, not exactly the age to be picking up FPS titles. My only experience with gaming by that point was MCPE. It wasn’t until 2017 I got into online gaming with my friends because of Fortnite. Then I downloaded Halo Infinite after it released cuz I wanted a new title to play. Fell in love with Halo Infinite and wanted to play the other games. Fell in love with those and I’ve been playing Halo ever since

I had a Wii for a while as a kid, so I was late to the Xbox 360 and finally got one the same Christmas after halo reach came out. It was my first real taste of halo after a decade of playing it over friends houses, and it was awesome. Still is, I will always have a sweet spot for reach.

I'm sad because I've been a halo fan since I was little. I remember halo reach coming out and how hyped my big brother was. You see I was always too young to play vidio games espeshualy halo, I must have been 5 or 6 when reach came out, but I wuld watch my brothers play games and that's were I got alot of my gaming taste from. I do remember my brother replaying halo reaches campane alot and one time he let me play the last mission which was the first time I played halo. I even remeber during one of his play through being my brother to save George. Unfortunately even when I got my own xbox I didn't bother geting a halo game until on one of my birthdays I got halo 5. Which unfortunately was the first game in the franchise I played all the way through. I meen I had played afew minions of halo 2 but cept forgetting how to resume a game. Luckily I wuled eventually get Xbox live in lockdown and that Christmas I was given MCC and now I've been able to fully apreashiat the franchise. But I'm sad that I've not seen a lornsh of a compleat halo game that I was old enough to play.

She let me stay home the next day on Wednesday, but I had already beat the campaign by 4am that morning, so I played nothing but multiplayer all day when I woke up at 12 until about 2 am that night... I was an addicted kid.. now I'm an addicted adult lol

I remember when I first got this game on the day came out, it was very magical, i still remember the first multiplayer match i played, the first time i played the campaign, the first assassination on a another player. But my best memories are playing with my friends, we played multiplayer a lot of the time, most of the fun was playing custom games, we also have fun messing around with Easter eggs and finding ways to glitch out the campaign levels. Me and my friends made a little clan called, Commonwealth Defence Force, in forge we make are own clan bases together. I miss reach i know i can still play it on mcc, but it's just not the same as the original.

The unfatomable pain of being a ps3 player that discovered the Halo Series at age 27 during the Covid Lockdown and loved every Bungie Halo campaign + firefight + pvp in the mcc (343 games sucks bad even if you have not nostalgia, the dip in quality and just straight cool factori is incredible. Feels like going from JRR Tolkien to a reddit fanfiction) . I loved playing Uncharted 2 and The Last of Us on my ps3 but the sheer amount of amazing experiences I missed out just cannot compare. If think about Gears of War I get even more depressed

The good old days. Halo may be in it's dark age right now, but it can return. We can rebuild it. Ironically, I played the original trilogy around 2007 onwards, but didn't truly fall in love with the franchise many of you did, until later. It's still among my favorite sci fi franchises. When Mass Effect was the best thing, Halo was for me. Now I love both at the age of 31. I only played campaigns, they were what I loved, because I've always liked entertaining myself. I know that's contradictory to why most loved Halo with it's social experience. I didn't have close (as in geographically) friends much, and none liked sci fi shooters. So Halo was my thing.

the year was 2010. the day? Christmas. December 25. I was ten years old and my parents had gotten me the gift i’d been begging for: an Xbox 360. Luckily they also gave me a single game… Halo: Reach. holy mother of God, I played the crap out of the game! beat the campaign numerous times, loved firefight, played on and built so many maps in forge world… life was perfect. for some reason I kept replaying Oni Sword Base over and over again. that mission and game will forever hold the first video game love of my life.

Halo Reach is still beautiful. Sure, graphics may have improved, but asthetically and artistically, it's still one of the best-looking games of all time. It's my favorite Halo, and the best part about it is that you don't have to be a massive Halo fan to love Reach. It appeals to both hardcore fans and casual fans alike. It's amazing. A gritty, brutal look at the Halo universe. A universe where Master Chief isn't always there to save the day. A universe where people fight and die, clinging to the distant hope that their sacrifice might make a difference. So good. A masterpiece.

I remember my friend got it for his birthday about a week after launch and me, him, his brother and our other friend played it all day and night on this tiny yellow AV TV (the fat ones that had no hdmi) and we played that on 4 player split screen just in forge world the whole time. We got busted at like 3 AM when the youngest brother screamed “WEEEEEE” after going over this huge ramp he made in a ghost. Their mom stormed in and we were so pissed at him for that. Good times😭

The beefy sounding assault rifle was so satisfying to shoot even in the beta. One time on Juggernaut I said my friend to let's rush him, as he was taking out other players left and right with the hammer, we died but had a good laugh out of it.

And now I'm tearing up from the nostalgia. I honestly haven't touched Halo in a year or so, but Halo Reach will always be the go-to for me (alongside ODST,) with its much more dire take on the series, its more fleshed out art style, and it's story and worldbuilding (no to mention the UNSC Army getting an in-game role.) (Maybe I just prefer darker color tones and visual details in games, but I always felt that Halo 3's graphics were a bit odd, especially when COD 4: Modern Warfare and Gears of War 1 made full use of the 360's upgraded specs. Fun fact: Epic Games was the sole reason Microsoft upgraded the 360's specs, as GoW with the old specs looked really bad and it was meant to be the launch title of the 360, so thank you Epic for doing this.)

Forging with friends, testing maps, customs, co op campaign, grinding cR...Halo honestly helped me out of a dark place in life by connecting me with people who became my family. I will praise this masterpiece to my dying breath.
