Join us for a STUNNING trek along Taylors Mistake Track! I want to apologize in advance for the sound quality in this video. The wind was very strong and I clearly need to invest in a microphone! It was a beautiful day and we got to enjoy the sun and even see some lambs. I highly recommend this track if you visit Christchurch!

Hello! My name is Katie Eisenmenger (pronounced eyes-en-ming-er) and my husband, Keaton, and I moved from Nebraska, USA to Christchurch, New Zealand! I wanted to make this page as a way to document this wild journey. I would absolutely love to connect with anyone that is also making the move to NZ or any Kiwis that can offer some advice along the way! As the beginning of our last name is pronounced "eyes" I thought "Eis On New Zealand" would be the perfect channel name. I can't wait to document this journey for our memories and to also share it with all of you! 😄 Feel free to follow me on instagram @katiekeis_ 🥰

Katie, always take a sun hat with you when outdoors , especially in our summer. Our sun can be a killer ( melanoma ) even folk with olive or dark skin can be caught out. Please. Love having you here. Enjoy ☺️

In NZ the official dates for the seasons are 1st Sep. for spring, 1st Dec. for summer, 1st Mar. for autumn, 1st Jun. for winter. That's because that's when the weather and temperatures change.

Hi guys! Beautiful weather and an awesome video! Taylors Mistake is a typical fantastic walk around Banks Peninsular and you're right - there are few sights to compare with the sun rising over the Pacific Ocean. I realise you have had a sometimes trying winter, but one of the reasons I love Christchurch is the temperate, 4 season climate. I think you will love Christchurch in summer. By the way, congrats to Katie on getting her job!

The spiky leafed... leaved... leafed?!... the trees with the spiky leaves is the Cabbage tree or tī kōuka. They're pretty much everywhere in New Zealand apart from way down south and in fiordland. They are important in Maori culture, used as food, fibres for textiles, medicine and were used as landmarks for navigation and territorial claims. My favorite New Zealand native is the horoeka or lancewood tree. Very distinctive foliage and just something straight out of jurassic park. Loving the videos and seeing you both getting out and enjoying our country, you'll never get bored if you're outdoorsy in New Zealand.

you will have noticed by now the weather has gotten really cold tonight, Christchurch is well known for promising a nice spring, with a few nice days when the sun warms everything, and then reveting to a final wintery blast, some years it's when we get snow.

Don’t be fooled, whilst it’s now just gone spring, NZ still has winters sting in the tail. Every year people get fooled and get caught out in a sudden bad patch of weather. Even farmers spring lambs get caught in a sudden snowstorm down south. As always, ensure you take layers of clothing in case you need it!😊 Not sure where you’re from in the US, but New Zealand doesn’t get really hot like parts of the northern hemisphere or Australia. We generally are a temperate mild climate mostly, summer whilst nice doesn’t reach the hot 40celcius like weeks here, if it ever does it’s a day or two and only in very isolated areas. Generally high 20’s, low 30s if that in most parts, so its lovely and means you can be outdoors for longer. (You certainly can’t be outside for long in an Australian summer when they get heatwaves in the 40’s for long stretches). Take sunscreen though. Even our mild summer temps can burn you here.😮

Careful of climbing out onto headland rocks. If the surf is up fishermen sometimes get swept off by random waves. The ozone hole has repaired.

Get a good Aussie drovers hat, to protect from sunburn......baseball caps don't cut it! In the NZ schools they teach the children to "Slip, Slop, Slap"... Slip on a t-shirt, Slop on lots of sunscreen, Slap on a hat! FYI. 5/8 of a mile is one kilometre.

The ozone hole according to the latest geophysical, geochemical data is vertually non existent. The sun intensity in NZ is probably more the result of very little polution rather than a practically non existent ozone hole
@runforrestrun1965
@runforrestrun1965 2 года назад
I believe in fact there was/is never an actual “ozone hole” over NZ, just an area with less ozone. It’s a great myth and good headline grabber for newspapers and catchy slogan for sound bites perpetuated by climate activists. Funny how they said it would take multiple decades to be replenished, if ever, yet here we are, almost normal! Yet greenhouse gases still going up.

Thanks for the tour. Always love seeing what you're up to. Respectfully suggest a camera upgrade with a more efficient microphone to save us the lip reading. Yes l realise it was a windy day but it'll prove it's worth in other situations as well. And with your editing, maybe a little less of the fast forward would be cool. An example is of Keaton's 'delicate' climb off the rocks. Please don't take these observations as criticism, just trying to help a little.👍🏻💖

Yes, I noted in the description that the sound wasn’t great due to the wind. Quality equipment does cost a bit and since I’m doing this for fun and not income, I must prioritise other things first when it comes to spending money. I hope you understand.

I find it funny you telling Keaton to walk on the left; I was always taught that the first rule is women an children go to the safest side, e.g., further away from the road/cliff-edge/riverbank etc., then the elderly. Then we tend to reverts to keeping left, simply because that's what we do when driving... but I've never heard of a set etiquette for which side you pass on.
@eisonnewzealand
