"He was there the day the towers fell" in the second verse is Gerard (lead singer) referring to his personal experience with 9/11 when he witnessed the buildings collapse. 9/11 was the reason MCR formed and became a band. He wasn't really happy with what he was doing at the time so it was a wake up call for him to chase the music and change the world through it. It's been 20 years since their debut album released back in 2002. In some ways, this song feels like a nice homage to that, as well as taking notes from their second album, as i previously mentioned. Every MCR album has had a concept of some kind. _The Black Parade_ (2006) had the strongest concept that you could really follow with each song. Their last album, _Danger Days_ (2010), was the most experimental, with elements of electronic music and pop thrown in. Gerard also wrote a comic book to go along with it, that brought the concept to a comic world. So they've always played around with their sound, changing it up each time. This new single seems like it's going back to their roots with the gritty rock sound.
I respect your understsnding of that, Rico & Crys. It's like judging NIN off of just "Closer". Allowing a band a few songs is important to get a real feel what they're about. This is very different from "The Black Parade" but I'm glad you are always open to give music a shot.
The lead singer Gerard did a song with another artist a couple weeks ago and he did black metal screams for him, then they release this, so they’re definitely going for a darker vibe
Yeah to really like this song you’d have to really have heard most of their songs so it’s okay if you don’t vibe too much with it! Check out Famous Last Words.. it’s on the same album as the black parade and if you don’t love it I’d be surprised!
I was contemplating asking for this one just because there's no video and it's a brand new song so it might not make sense without knowing MCR's discography which you brought up during the song. The singer (Gerard) is super artistic so he constantly changes the themes of their albums case in point he went from making an album about vampires and zombies to then going to black parade about a cancer patient and so on. If you do more MCR songs either "I'm not Ok,' Which is teenage highschool angst or "The Ghost of You," which is more production value and story.
As a fan of the band for a long time I'll say i have been waiting for this moment for a long time since their reunion, I'm like "YES!!!! new music!!!!! Finally"
Oh shit AFI! I'd love if they did Love Like Winter. I wonder if they'll be able to hear the little word in the beginning of the song. It took me years to hear it.
I hope you listen to them more :] Each member is so incredibly talented and each album has its own feel and story. Usually I’d recommend listening to the entire Black Parade album in order, but that’s asking for a lot of time from you guys. So it’s a maybe-ish possible suggestion lmao
hm, i feel like for you to really appreciate or at least understand this new single, you'd have to be familiar with their early work. Their first two albums, specifically. _I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love_ (2002) [raw, rough around the edges, hadn't formed their sound yet] _Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge_ (2004) [breakthrough success, their signature sound is realized, it's cleaner and polished than the first album, but still maintains the energy]
Hadnt heard the new stuff.. its ok.. didnt really capture my interest much though. Anything off of black parade is great.. this one was a swing and a miss for me
