@@TakedaTaira unless MK is turned to shieettt after mk1, I'd rather watch Tom play Tekken, SF or GG or any other franchise, the thing that made MK so emotionally connected is the lore and characters, now all NRS did is totally shiett on it and its obvious they don't care after mk1
“Hating MK is cool!” “They’re just hating for the sake of hating.” “They’re just trying to be different” We’re really in this day and age where people are so allergic to criticism that they feel to see the issues with their own game.
Well, hating on MK is cool because the same people wouldn't talk about the negatives of tekken, for example the pluggers that wouldn't get punished for rage quitting on tekken rank. Those people for some reason remain silent but are so good to call out MK. So there is a trend of "it's cool to trash MK" but conveniently ignore the bad of other games. But that is just my opinion.
@@djcrazy941026 I’m not sure where you’ve been but to say people have been quiet about Tekken 8’s plugging problems is either a massive lie or you haven’t seen it at all, because plugging has been one of Tekken 8’s biggest gripes that the community has been vocal about for a long time before the first patch, and it only got worse after that not only with Tekken Shop and Battle Pass, but also how online ranks you by prowess rather than overall Rank. Tekken 8, unlike MK1, actually focuses on its competitive side rather than the casual audience, so it would be crazy if Tekken 8 players were quiet about this dilemma(they weren’t btw)
@@God1st949 right ? We don’t need the wheel reinvented every 5 years or so .Just give us a 1v1 MK game ..this KAMEO system could have been a different mode .I grew up playing this game and being excited for everyone of them ..this one was a let down. Its not even installed
@@DeZHDSocial😂 Still bawling about kameos. This game IS 1v1. The moves are just different from what you're used too. Legacy games have a pretty big change on their new games as well. Sf5 doesn't feel like SF6 tekken 7 does not feel like Tekken 8. If this game isn't for you play something else.
I think Kameos are a great concept. They just didnt balance the game at ALL so the whole point of it opening the game up and offering more creativity, is destroyed by the fact that 70% of the roster and 90% of the kameos are useless
@@21Handguns I know it wasn't balanced, but mk9 was the last time I truly had fun with a nrs game. MKX was not good imo gameplay wise, but I loved(still do) the story, and character intros. MK11 was boring as molasses, and extremely linear with the awful crushing blows mechanic. NRS usually makes good games, but bad fighters, but mk1 is a bad game overall, and a bad fighter as well.
As a lifelong MK fan, I have to believe the asinine Reddit and X takes shilling MK1 are bots paid for by WB and NRS. No one can possibly believe this game is in a good place. I literally know no human beings who play it consistently.
Reddit is an echo chamber filled with shills, toxic positivity, and weirdos who have sexual fantasies over video game characters. But we’re the weird ones who want the female characters to look more sexy 😂
45 years old here and I have been around since MK was born. I can relate to everything Tom has been pointing out in all these videos. It’s sad to see how MK has dissolved into an unidentifiable version of its former self.
@@God1st949 MK2 and MKX are the best of Mortal Kombat, in my opinion. Dark, gritty, full or lore. None of this cartoony stuff we get now with super hero’s mixed in.
@@JasonNortwichAgreed. I don’t even recognize it anymore. Superheroes and Kameos bouncing around everywhere looks ridiculous. I never bought MK1 and I’m glad I didn’t.
@@God1st949 I mean stage fatalities are a CORE feature of MK…yet MK1 doesn’t even have those. The problem is 2 fold, social media came into existence and WB bought the property rights. WB just wants to make money at this point (product quality doesn’t matter) and social media started the process of people shilling the game for views/likes/subs and larger social media personalities had influence over the development direction of MK (often times bad for the casual community).
@@JasonNortwichYeah…honestly I hope that Mortal Kombat gets stripped down to its roots once more. You are right, the dark & gritty tone is missing completely, replaced by a bright, cartoony and bubbly atmosphere. The fatalities are weak, the mechanics are weak and it just doesn’t have that MK flare. Guess it was fun while it lasted. Take care old school.

@@Sol-kv6gj yeah I agree with you but I mean at least in 11 he had some stuff like the enhanced z hat frame trap and lotus fist was decent but used so much meter. But then in mk1 he has like nothing, all he has is some gimmicky stuff with goro. It's disgusting how terrible lao is in mk1
It’s easy to hate on MK/NRS/WB because there’s so much low effort content and battle design blunders in their games. These devs just don’t care from the animations to the monetization to the battle decisions
They care about the animations a lot. That is why they suck. They try to mimic the old real life sprite MKs so it keeps the animation style, the problem it that its garbage with stiff animations and terrible posing. Its better to have a good animation for a FG even if it loses the MK feel it had
@@hands-ongaming7180 I think they said they would dial down the gore/fatalitys after all the controversy it has with MK11 and animators. I prefer it with more simple fatalitys and less gore either way, I just wish they had used that money for something else instead of just having a worse game overall.
@@jaxfan looks like cheap mobile game. has super hero injustice physics with unnatural robotic over powered impact rather than a smooth martial arts flow and bad choppy animations. ugly character models. the brain dead kameo system. and were just getting started
@Rockysbeats so graphics determine if a game is good or bad? When I was a young gamer, new games came out in the arcade before they came to the home systems. You had to wait 6 months to a year to get the game at home. Whem the game finally came out, we had very watered down graphics and watered down sound compared to the arcade. We didn't get short mode, konquest. We got what the arcade gave us with a few minor extras. We took it and we enjoyed it
@@jaxfan besides graphics i mentioned the gameplay, physics, animation etc. you clearly just read the first line. The bar has been raised since the good old days. look at SF6. good graphics, good physics, good animation, good gameplay. an allround polished product. Capcom have set a good standard. NRS are waaaay behind
Mortal Kombat does 10X more to respond to the community than those other games. We’ve already had tons of updates to nerf and buff things that people complain about. The gameplay is amazing. Some of the other game modes are not good, but if you just wanna play online it’s good. A lot of people just don’t like the kameo system. I think Kameos are awesome but to each their own. But nobody can say that Netherrealm hasn’t been responding to feedback.

@@jvramirez1577Ya and the most annoying thing is that they actively try to get other people to stop playing mk1. They are like “we need to show Netherrealm that we mean business so everyone has to stop playing.” It’s like, some of us actually love this game.
@@sandman79 A lot of casuals don’t like Kameos cus it’s too hard for them. That’s fine, but you can’t just say a game is trash because some people don’t like it. A lot of people, including most of the pro players, actually really like MK1 and the kameo system. You have the right to dislike the game, but other people have the right to like it. It’s definitely more of a niche game tho and MKX appeals to a much wider audience cus it is really easy to just mix your opponent with low/overhead unreactables the whole game.
What we can learn from all these stats is that good games attract more people. That's it. It isn't some kind of "conspiracy against NRS" it's simply the fact that Capcom and Namco took the last 7 years listening to player feedback to make Tekken and SF better, while NRS ignored all the complaints and rushed out a garbage game, and the numbers reflect exactly this.
My question is why would Mortal Kombat fans want to hate Mortal Kombat? Any fan that is sour on the game and the state of the franchise DO NOT WANT TO FEEL THAT WAY! Some of us just can’t turn a blind eye to the myriad of issues. Some of us would rather be honest in hopes of a better product than to lie, be delusional, and fall complacent leading to stuff like MK11 and MK12. And being critical doesn’t make someone any less of a fan. IMO it makes them more of a fan for wanting MK to reach the heights it SHOULD be at. The fanboys only have Netherrealm, WB, the shills, and themselves to blame for the state Mortal Kombat is in and how it’s viewed currently.
@@Zagreus_07 what a clown take. I hate MK12, it’s mechanics, and I haven’t played this trash in months and I’ll still run the set with anybody and probably clap em 😂. I dare anyone to challenge someone like Brady. He’s probably clapping them in spite of his disdain for the game.

As an oldhead who was there when you fought Pig at NEC 2011 in the infamous battle of Sub-Zero VS Cyber Sub-Zero, I trust your opinion over 99% of the community.
It's so nice that when Capcom messes up and releases a sub par product like SF5, they acknowledge, apologize, work to improve, and are gracious to their fanbase. When NRS releases a sub par, unfinished product like mk1, they ignore all criticism and look for echo chambers to praise their mediocrity. Criticism leads to better products
Capcom had 6 years to fix their game. Players were complaining about SFV Cammy until Year 3. Throw Loops, R Mika, Throw Loops, Chun Li Air Lightning Legs, Throw Loops, Akuma, Throw Loops, Guile V Trigger, Throw Loops, Urien V Trigger, Throw Loops, Balrog V Trigger, Throw Loops, Menat V Trigger, Throw Loops, Abigail, etc. We couldn't even get past a month. Remember the complaining about Cyrax during ECT. The constitution/resolve of the players from one scene to another varies widely as is often undermined. I can elaborate if you like.
@@jamerson4967 I just replied to someone on another post, but I'm sure it will apply here. At least as an example that we can all agree is anecdotal.. "Except the notion of SFV and T7 finding themselves in a good place is only partially true. How can anyone say that is a fair argument when the whole argument is 'MK1 Is Trash, I'm Done With It" when it's not a even a year old? Yet, Abigail was released in 2018. Three years after the game was released. Hell, the character Luke was a massive area of contention and he arrived towards the end of that game's lifespan. Oh yeah, Tekken 7 turned itself around.. Right? The same 2017 (console release) game that 7 Leroys in EVO Japan 2020. That had a broken Hitbox character Fahkhuram, the same game that made players pay for a frame data tool. That's why there IS legitimate bias within the community and we as MK Kommunity literally pick and choose what is and isn't criticism. So many fallacies"
@@sabrvibes3147 the truth 🤝, a lot of people like to brush over the reception of these games. I’m not familiar with T7 launch but I do know the game was in arcades years before it was released on consoles and sfv did everything mk1 did except the dsync issue. Mk1 does have flaws but it’s a solid game imo just needed to cook more.
To think that people hate on MK just because it’s the “cool” thing to do is ridiculous. We all want MK to be the best it can be, but if you keep acting like nothing is wrong without speaking out, then the same shit is gonna keep on happening
Exactly. It’s not like we want to not like mortal Kombat that’s why we speak out when there’s a problem but nrs doesn’t like criticism so that’s how we ended up with mk1
Many MK fans have experience so much negative comments about MK's violence that they assume that is what the criticism is about. For a long time MK was disregarded by the fighting community as a game that only relies on violence and shock value.
I'm so glad to see more MK from Tom. This man spent $700 to fly out to a 25-man bracket to make nothing back. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone more passionate about MK, and I'm here for it.
This is why nothing will ever change because people are gonna keep spending $100 on a game that dies in a month because the devs themselves don’t even care about the game. They literally run off with peoples money and say see you in five year’s. When are y’all gonna learn? 👀👀
Part of the problem with MK1 is the meta got figured out so fast, and then the mega gets nerfed but the rest of the roster doesn’t get buffed enough. Kameos make the game even more boring cos the kameo imbalance is even worse than the character imbalance.
"not just MK1, more than likely I probably won't cover MK ever again. I'll have to move on to something else" "Hope you guys enjoy my future content FREE OF MORTAL KOMBAT going forward. For those who leave, I totally understand you're here for MK. For those who stay, thank you so much." "and that is how Mortal Kombat leaves my channel and leaves my life" quoted from MK Tom Brady "Mortal Kombat 1 has KILLED Mortal Kombat for me"
Mk1 was rushed out and wb was looking for a win to go with harry potter. Now almost a year later they still havent added things that were promised or still say coming soon.
Bro and Tom doesn't want to acknowledge that WB was in some deep deep sh!t, serious debt in other words..to a point where they rushed everything from movies to games to save them from bankruptcy starting some time in 2019 I think..can't remember the year
it has been cool to hate on Mortal Kombat literally since mk4 bc of the silliness of the transition to 3d and animation nerds shitting on these games since forever bc crouch normals always look dumb in these games
Crouch normals in the 3D era games are so damn funny and jank, only like 2 styles have good crouching attacks, unless it’s deception, then more than half the sweeps turn into free throws lol.
Why people keep calling this THING Mk1 ? This THING is Injustice 3. It was always Injustice 3. A 🗑 Injustice 3 game masked as MK. A masquerade! I can't blame NRS anymore for playing us like dummies we have allowed them.
I remember hearing exactly that, at some point MK1 became MK1 because WB lost so much money from other games they webt to NRS and were like “Hey, we need money, MK prints money better than anything in the FGC regularly, whatever you’re working on just call it MK for us.” Which is very odd but also kinda makes sense why we got what we got.
@@ThePlasticBowlBro you're the second person I've come across saying this and guess WHAT, Tom doesn't want to acknowledge that, WB was in a shit spot, so bad it needed NRS to save them from debt..which is why this game is where it is
Tekken 7 wasn’t on consoles in 2015, and Street Fighter 4 was on Ultra SF4, the fourth iteration of the game. So comparing these numbers is disingenuous. Plus, MKX was only a few months old at this point.
i love how people just refuse to understand this game is awful, they just come up with everything to not accept this game has some horrible game design
Funny you mentioned Tokido, because Justing Wong interviewed him some weeks ago, and Tokido said MK was the worst fighting game he ever played lol. He did not specify which one tho
Listing T7 numbers for 2015 and 2016 is a joke and you know that Tom.....it got released on console in 2017... which u r aware of but seem to have forgotten
Its crazy to think that making up lies and conspiracy theories about a game is easier to do than just saying, "Maybe the game just isnt that good, and we should demand better from NRS". MK players should play the game they think is the most fun.
The crazy thing about MK1 is that it is in the same shoes as SFV in its release, NRS didnt even try to learn from its mistakes. The community is not behind it to fix it and the few that are refuse to accept that there is a huge issue with MK1. Like right now i get depressed looking at MK1 and its hard as a casual to come back to a bare boned game that has a high demand for microtransactions.
Fuck Takeda the only things that are going to save this game is - Tag Team -Online practice mode -Allowing Test your might, sight and strike to return and be playable outside of Invasions -Delete invasions -Buff all of the characters -allow costumes to be selectable during character select -Jukebox mode with music across all games. If they can do those things maybe MK can be saved.
one of the main reasons i got into mk1 was for tag mode, playing tag online with a friend in mk9 was tops, and i was hoping for that, but nope, just a game with a lot of nothing in it
Actually the net code was slack at times. But when both connections were good, the game was FUN. The nerfs and buffs were needed, but tiresome at times. STILL a great game.
The only reason i got mk 11 was because of Mk 9 and mkx where so good. Now i got no hope for them, I'm expecting the next MK to be a 40$ live service full of bugs and microtransactions and let s not forget the toxic positive community kissing Edd s ass. This franchise is done
I think another reason as too why SF and Tekken popped off while MK is in the shitter is because of the dev teams. While it took time Capcom and Namco listened to the criticism and the "hate" and fixed their games as best they could, and improved in their sequels substantially. NRS would rather plug their ears and go "lalalalala I'm not listening" instead of actually taking criticism.
I have to give Tom Brady this he's definitely fighting for nrs community but one man can't do it alone certain influencers with mass followings choose to sugar quote things as much as possible in fear they get blacklisted.
If NRS used MKX as a canvas and took the 2 best variations of each character and combined them for example Scorpion Hellfire + Ninjistu and add a special move from Inferno (demon summons) Kung Lao Tempest + Buzzsaw and a special from hat trick (Hatrap) And what's even more insane is that NRS could keep the characters strings the same since they were universal in each variation they can add also add those unique ones like scorpions ninjustu strings to the list above. Imagine the Characters in this example right now compared to what we got in MK1. THIS I what i expected from MK11 and more so MK1... This is what Mortal Kombat's trajectory should've been. When you find success you don't deviate from it you build upon it. This is called Legacy. Capcom and Namco know this and thats why they're at the top.
Honest question. If you don't enjoy this game and perhaps didn't enjoy the games previously, why on EARTH would you go out and buy another game from the same developers. It's unreal how much FOMO the MK Community has.
@@sabrvibes3147 ive enjoyed both injustice games and even with MK I enjoyed 9, X, 11 was eh and 1 was Eh. So 🤷🏾♂️ imo they hit more than they miss. But surely they hear all the negativity circling the last two mk titles to change something. Who knows. 🤷🏾♂️
Good shit as always, Tom. I can only comment on my local scene during the MK2 - Mk4 arcade days. There was definitely discrimination against mortal Kombat in the San Antonio, Austin Texas area. Street fighter crowd always looked down and shunned MK as a game and the players. Granted, MK here always attracted the goths and metalheads but still, cmon. I played everything but MK was my main I remember witnessing straight up bullying of mk players. Oh well, the rivalries is what made the arcade days so great. Being face to face and shit talking was on another level. I wonder how the new gen online players would fair back then haha
There is NO SUCH THING as hating to be cool. Hate is not cool, it's exhausting. I think people act to love things and be cool aka "trend following" When people hate with solid points and reasons.. that means that person genuinely cares about something. But hating just to hate has never been cool and is exhausting and no one wants to be around negativity. Next day youre a work or school, trying being hateful towards everything and see if people want to be around you or not... If MK is going to double down on their woke timeline reset BULLSHIT, and defend it and attack the real fans. Im down to help in anyway I can
I've followed the FGC since about '07. So when MK9 came out, I can honestly say every pro player gave it a chance. We had the justin wongs, the perfect legends, the filipino champs of the world playing it. Champ even played injustice for awhile. Every top player at the time were signing up for tournaments. It was the perfect breakthrough NRS needed. (man did they drop the ball after MKX. WTF.) Tons of new members of the FGC flooded in thanks to MK9. It was hype AF. MK had shit tons of fans, there just wasn't a game that was being played competitively at the level that capcom games were. I don't know about everyone else but I can guess, everyone would ask themselves the question 'what if MK actually had a highly competitive game? That shit be fire.' next to dragonball, it's what every player wanted. Side note, SF4 was hated by a large faction of people, some people outright refused to play it and went back to a smaller 3S scene. T6 was hated as well, and don't even get me started on SFV. That game was LOATHED.
I think he exaggerating the mk11 era a bit. As they did listen tall remember the broken scorpion demon dash with they even did an emergency last minute patch to stop the sheeva stomp meta that was running rampant at the end. Give ‘em a little more credit, where it’s due.
I've been saying MK has been behind literally every other FG, since the first one. Granted the realistic looking characters and the fatalities where cool, but the entire franchise relies too much on it to the point it's all it offers. You'd think they'd try to improve on what they had in 9 which was decent enough, it almost felt like a good game, hell, the dual fighting styles in Armageddon had potential, but I supposed they were scared to be compared to Soul Calibur because I saw no reason in removing it, it would've made the series stand out more than from just having gore.
Please stop caring about what people say or think about you. Continue to give your opinions and speak for the people as you have been. It’s understandable that comments from nobodies can eventually get annoying but just keep being yourself please because there isn’t anyone in this community brave enough to speak their mind. I gave up on this franchise recently but appreciate you always keeping it real no matter how it comes off to the less passionate.
I knew this guy wouldn’t be able to stay away from making a Mortal Kombat video as it is his bread and butter. Lol. Anyway, I don’t think MK fans were saying that there was a conspiracy or a plot against Mortal Kombat. Nor were they using EVO numbers as a metric. More along the lines of, the FGC community at large often dunks on and vocally rejects Mortal Kombat for shit like having a block button, what is considered janky animation, having a focus on casual focus gameplay modes, and being different from more “traditional” Japanese developer fighting games. Making the thesis for this video come across a bit straw man and disingenuous. But perhaps that is on brand for this guy. Isn’t he the one that took money from fans to participate in a tournament? Only to take that money and give himself a vacation/not return it or am I thinking of somebody else?
The first part of this comment is genuinely quite true, the second part is mostly attacking Tom's character which is unhelpful. I get why you said it, but it's not helpful because it can detract from the issue/topic. The first part is very accurate, though.

At first I assumed that it was because I was trash so I gave it a fair shot and got alright at the game, but I still wasn’t having fun.
