The "computer" module for a set of headlights is upwards of $300 depending on the vehicle. Some newer trucks it can be $5-600....it is ridiculous. Of course right to repair being what it is, Tony and people skilled like him are the only saviors in 50% of instances where the pads can be replaced....if not, you are screwed.
@Ullion404
@Ullion404 2 дня назад
Replacement? Oh sry you can't just buy that small thingy, as it is a car part, you can only buy it with the complete headlight. Oh as I see you can't buy a single one, so here's a pair of headlights at only $ 2000 each. So with taxes you owe us $4500... I hate that whole business with cars and carparts.

Looks like a job well done! Love your videos, and I try to watch them all throughout and give a like. I'm sure your videos must help many people out there. I don't do anything like the work you do, but on occasions I like to DIY and fix things, on occasions this involves electronics. Watching your videos has improved my knowledge of soldering. My skill on the other hand is a different story.. lol! I don't have all the kit yet but I have a few soldering irons a few tips, a board holder, a rework air station and a pre-heater and a bunch of components I buy as I need them. I haven't detached and de-soldered a surface mounted IC yet or performed a re-ball, so I'm just a noob really. Love your work, please don't quit anytime soon! I have two old Titan pascal cards (connected) in my tower that have lasted a decade without any maintenance apart from the odd vacuum to remove dust. I probably should replace the paste but I'm a bit worried about my level of skill to do that. Any advice for a noob would be welcomed?

I do auto electrics - we call those light modules and they do a few different things depending on the car The basic ones are just LED drivers with a LIN or CAN interface - BMW routinely throw 3+ of those on EACH HEADLIGHT (for the angel eyes/highlights/indicators etc.) Then there are the ballast units for Xenon/Laser lights - these are more complex and WAY more expensive With these lights the bulbs also have built-in igniters which are a another stack of electronics - a bulb is 3 figures alone... Then there are the modules which control self-levelling motors and other gubbins which are part of the headlight 'box' so when they fail it's the entire housing to change... All of that will - sooner or later - get wet and rot and die - once water is inside the headlight 'it's a matter-of-time before you'll be spending a few thousand PER SIDE The absolute latest lights can control every part of the beam thrown - using cameras to map the world and block-out oncoming cars or highlight the side of the road or a hazard etc. - I don't even know where to start on those but a single headlight is many many thousands of pounds - a front-end hit taking out both would be 5 figures for the lights ALONE It's all a BIT different from the H1/3/5/H7 bulbs we know and love...

Just a bit of info about the UV torch or UV source you use for curing conformal coatings etc. They come in two 'flavors' so to speak, the more common and cheaper 395nm wavelength type, and the 365nm wavelength type. Both will cure the coating, but I've found that the 365nm wavelength is much _MUCH_ faster and handy at curing than the 395nm. I use resins a fair bit and this is true for most of the resins I use, and the conformal coatings.
@attack125
@attack125 10 дней назад
it's almost as if 395nm is a diffrent wavelenght of light than 365 almost as if 395 is only just barely still uv light.... oh wait. IT IS. UV light is 400nm till 100nm. but the meaningfull one. UV-A. is 400-315. so it's kindof self explainatory as to why 365 is better at curing than 395. it's because it's a purer form of UV. it's smack dab in the middle of the range.

4:00 - The gap between the GND plane and the traces is nearly zero? Oh ... there is no GND plane and there is only black solder stop. This is good. I do not use alcohol, because in it is mostly some type of bitter taste substance, which is then the left over at the surface of the PCB. It is like a white powder. So I use only Isopropanol for cleaning the surface.
