Thanks for the video Kelly. I had interview last Sunday and was asked about my experiences and then told to show a demo on the first part of the material (calling mom and dad). I was praised all over the interview for demonstrating good performance and showing good experience. I should mention that I was ready for the second and third parts of the demo (Stand up/Sit down and Cellphone), however, the interviewer didn't ask me to go there which made me think that maybe the first part was enough for him. After again telling me that my performance and answers were good for hiring and I was recognized as passed for him, he asked me to wait so that the recruitment supervisor make the decision and send me email. Since I was very happy, I was waiting impatiently for two days to receive a short message that said I was not chosen. I hope there was any explanation along with that message. I don't know if there was any shortcoming, why I was told otherwise all the time during the interview. I wish they could tell me what were my flaws or tipping points that pushed them to the other side so that I can work on them.
Sorry to hear that. It sounds like your interview was pretty standard. Interviewers often just do 1 slide for the demo, more to do with time than performance. But interviewers have little say in whether you are hired. We give an opinion, but the decision is made by head office. They won't give any feedback though. The volume of applications coming in make it impossible to provide feedback to every applicant. 😔

I am asking this as I totally misled by the interviewer's reactions thinking that I have a high chance of getting hired. 2- How much is the impact of unwritten facts like age or country/race that I come from or being or not being a native English speaker on my success in interview? I am an old nonnative guy. Could that be a negative factor against me? Thanks
@@chek887 No problem. :) 1 - Not sure what you are asking. Head office passes or fails you in the end. It does not really matter how much your interviewer praises you unfortunately. Nothing to do with agreement between the 2 of us, there is no discussion that takes place. 2 - Those details are known prior to your interview, as you provide age and nationality in the application. Neither affect your interview outcome UNLESS you have a heavy accent (as they want neutral and native-like accents), you aren't fluent, or your age affects your energy/enthusiasm.

I should have said that I didn't register on their website but saw their ad in Indeed and applied by sending Canadian format of resume (without picture or age) and then they sent me message for interview without knowing about those. By agreement, I meant be aligned with the company's policy as an interviewer, because interviewee doesn't know about decision-making hierarchy and gives some credibility to the interviewers' words. I'd recommend applying through Kelly or one of the other interviewers here on Utube. I just had an interview arranged through the iTutor website and it was the most depressing interview of my life, after just 20 seconds I knew she'd failed me and felt she was just wasting her time, didn't even bother to say hello. Didn't ask any single question about me or why I want to teach, just only confirm your name and D.O.B. Done. I thought it was the least professional interview I've ever had. If I didn't qualify, then why waste my time and hers with the stupid interview???

Hi! We do accept non-natives. We do not need any English proficiency test results (like TOEFL), but you will need to obtain a TEFL or TESOL teaching certficate once hired.

You can't screenshare during your interview or while teaching. You can try to use your phone, but I would advise being well-versed in doing so (ie, ensure you have things cued up so you aren't fumbling around, ensure it is clearly visible on screen, etc).

Hi! No problem. 😊 The last slide is more aimed at a higher level student. You won't need to use as much TPR (if any). You can still use visuals. But it should be more conversational, with more encouraging of student output. Correct errors as needed. Still be friendly, encouraging. 💜

Hi Kelly, I've been looking into iTutorGroup and would like to apply to work with them. I'm currently teaching with VIP Kid and really like it but not getting as many bookings as I would like. I was looking at the tech requirements for iTutor and see they require a certain type of headset. I use an AfterShokz wireless headset that does not sit on top of my head. Would this be acceptable to iTutor? I can't wear any headset that rests on top of my head because it causes a migraine. I wanted to check before I apply.

The requirement is typically that it covers both ears and has a visible mic. Yours may be acceptable though. No particular ones are required to interview, so my suggestion is to apply and interview. Then, once hired, you are asked to do an IT test at which time they will check. You can view lessons as soon as a class is scheduled. Classes start took usually a day before and can continue to book up to an hour before. I usually find they book well before that hour mark though. So plenty of time to prep!
Honestly, find ones that are comfortable for you! You will potentially be wearing them lots haha. iTutorgroup wants to see ones covering your ears, with a visible (stick out) microphone, that are wired. I use gaming ones (Razer) currently and like them. But Logitech has a good selection too!

It isn't the only option. If you apply via an interviewer, you can do a live interview. But otherwise, if you applied directly, you will usually only have the automated option.

Hi! That is actually exactly what the interview looks like. It is only 10-15 minutes in total, and consists of a couple questions and a short demo. I only do one slide in my interviews as well. That is all completely normal! :) Results usually go out in about 24 hours be sure to check both your email and your application page. The only reason I can think you would be getting emails to complete an application is if you have in fact signed up multiple times, but I wouldn't be concerned.

No verbal instructions? what? TPR in support, but half the benefit of a native speaker to teach is exactly that kind of incidental language, and it helps their ability to both learn in other English classes, and get comfortable with unknowns...of which their will be many for a long time to come......
Totally get your point. But there is a time and place for extra language as well. Teaching a very beginner, who does not yet know simple words like mom/dad for example, may not be the place. More words = confusing at that level. Keep it simple, and build the basics of language, before throwing in tons of unfamiliar words. As a learner's level goes up, so to can the use of incidental language. But of course, you do you! I personally work across a number of companies, and they have varying requirements for incidental language, but by far most frown upon using lots of it for early levels. (And in a demo or interview, companies typically want to see that you have the ability to keep it simple, because it is a challenge for most people. Using minimal language and TPR is far harder than using tons of words to get the point across, so they want to see you have that ability. Actual classes may be different; that is your call!)

@@leahkekana6993 Hiring has slowed (same as most companies), and about 10-20% of people are getting offers right now. (But there is no guarantee this will ever change, as the standards implemented seem to be pretty permanent.) As long as you are well-prepared, you should have no trouble getting onboard. ;)

There is no age limit! I have worked with teachers of all ages. 😊 It is varied. But, in general, kids take classes evenings and all day weekends China time. Adults take classes anytime.

@@Nipoga1401 Usually a photo or copy of the diploma is needed for uploading to your profile. Transcripts may also be acceptable. (Sometimes they may also request additional proof, like a letter or verification from university.)
