IU is one of the Korean stars who really knows how to sing! There are a lot of super talented people in the industry, but IU stands out. Her voice has an ethereal, unique quality, and she has a versatility that encompasses everything from rock to r&b to cutesy pop songs. I think people can have their preferences and so they don't necessarily have to like her, but she has incredible talent-that much must be acknowledged.
She deserves more love! People say she's having this "boost of popularity" but you know what I think? It's not even close to the level of popularity she deserves.She's still so underrated and people who don't know her don't even think she deserves the opportunities she's being given right now. They don't know what originality and talent is.
IU's voice has a unique charm. Her tone is just AMAZING. It's very rare for young idols to be able to convey subtlety. IU's an EXCELLENT singer who knows how to interpret the melody.
I've heard sixpence non the richer sing their song live, and it sounded nothing like the studio version. This IU's live version comes very close to the studio version just like the original. You gotta have a real sweet voice like IU's to pull this off.
Both Jessica and IU are different in their own way, Jessica has a more matured voice while IU has it more sweet and soft, I'm a sone and I love IU! She's super talented!
As a fan of IU, I realized that IU lacked in her pronunciation, but it's okay, she's Korean, she grew up that Korea as her 1st language, and she still have a long way to learn how to sing in English song better than this. And if you noticed, she performed this on Nov 19, 2008, just 2 months from her debut... We can't deny that IU sang it beautifully since she was just a debutant. And if you searched IU performed in English song nowadays, she improved so much. Believe me :)
For me, IU is a singer who really had a good emotion in her voice/singing. Don't care what languages she sings, I can relate to whatever song she sings. Just like I enjoy her Korean songs every day and I don't understand Korean at all, so same case in here, I enjoyed her performance here :)
Her voice was good enough to impress me. It's not about whether you can pronounce it correctly or not. Eventhough I don't understand korean songs I still love them. =)
I don't know if this is just the bad quality audio or not but I think IU's voice suits this song really well. I am a die hard Jessica fan but I really like IU's version.
Oh by the way, IU was 15 when she sang this. Currently she just turned 18! and i'll just add that IU is and has been the most requested female artist for duets by famous male artists. I wonder why!
the most reasons shes not known is because she's really young and a solo singer unlike the groups she is amazing and sings way beautiful but she also has school too
She's got a very sweet voice. Perfect for cheery, soft songs like this : D Surprisingly, she's excellent at strong, explosive songs like Mia(미아) too-- a delightful rarity
i can really tell how unique and husky her voice is when she sings in english. I wish she knew english really well....man imagine all the songs she could sing!!!! her voice is really suited to souful...country songs :P
Let's just enjoy IU's lovely voice and please don't compare her to anyone. I think IU and Jessica are both really good. They have different styles, so please don't compare!!!
why is everyone saying she should have been an snsd member? I think that if that were the case, her talent would be wasted. She's great as a solo artist. It's just a pity that she's not as popular as mainstream kpop. She should go international.
I speak English but I cant sing to save my life so having good pronunciation doesn't really impress me. Ive listened to the original version long before these covers were made and I'll say that IU's voice really captures the feel of the song, so sweet and innocent. Her voice has an undescribable quality that is so special and pleasant to listen to plus she's continuing to improve her English to make her covers sound even better. She makes singing seem so effortless. Wish I could sing like her.
For some reason iu's voice isn't clear but i love it even more for that reason. I don't know why. Everyone says clear voices are best but i like voices with depth. It must be iu's magic!!!
