It was too much for us to handle like HOW CAN WE MOVE ON??? 😭😭😭 they way they gave us rollercoster of emotions literally want happy ending but OMGGGG their acting they way we literally felt every sec of MV the way they portray thier emotions without dialogues omgggggg crying in ugly😭😭😭😭😭

There are so many layers of story telling and metaphors and the director has explained what the storyline is. It’s a beautiful way for him to convey the message. In addition to this one part of my interpretation is based on the fact that Tae is blind in one eye and has burn scars around that eye. You can see at the beginning he is looking vulnerable, fragile and afraid. IU is leading him and is protective throughout. My interpretation is that he had encountered the cube before and narrowly escaped being captured and so is going through all the emotions from it. At the end, you see IU trying to protective him by picking up the metal bar because (to me) she knows what he went through and wants to protect him. And Tae taking the bar and attacking the cube looks to me like he knows what the cube is capable of and despite his fear of it, he wants to protect her. At the end it didn’t work and you can see the cube glow red with heat and smoke coming off their bodies (burn marks around his eyes). The ending was so poignant. The song was amazing and felt more epic because of the storyline and visuals. They have great chemistry, first with the amazing duet they did on IU’s Palette and now with their acting skills, not to mention their interactions as friends. It’s so good to see Tae being able to express his acting skills even in a 5minute short. I hope he starts doing movies on his return. This movie really makes everyone feel emotional and they did that with their facial expressions, truly stunning. IU is queen for a reason and Tae our idol of idols never disappoints in his unique take on life and the choices he makes, whether to make an album of music he likes or to act in a short film all choices with a sad, emotionally moving ending. He wants his artistry to move us emotionally rather than hit the top spots on charts. Love these two artists. It’s time to stop calling this kpop.

Girl, I'm with you! I have watched this soooooo many times and still cry the whole time. My heart literally feels like it's breaking every time. This mv makes it hard to not believe in lasting love and faith.

A few things you may have missed. This is one of the theory. There are many others too :- 1) IU is deaf/mute and V is blind in one eye. IU uses sign language in the dinner table if you notice. 2) The cube represents the society which discriminates against people having disabilities thus eliminating them. 3) However Love truly wins all. IU and V stayed together because of their true love. 4) The camrecorder shows how the world would have been if the society didn't discriminate against them. 5) They would have get married happily. If you see the scene where IU was singing in the mic and Tae puts a flower on her ear, the people in the back were pointing fingers at them. 6) The whole mv was mainly shown from the pov of IU. You can see how she always put herself in the danger first and tries to protect Tae, how tenderly she loved him, her touches were so gentle as she saw his normal eye through the cam. But Tae loved her too. At the end of their life, he puts himself in front and tried to break the box. Tae was not your alpha male. They both are equally scared but when time comes, they can sacrifice themselves for the other. This is true love. 7) The three taps on Tae's chest at the end of the mv where Jieun was hugging him from behind indicates i love you in sign language. ANOTHER THEORY - The cube represents inevitable death. IU and V remember their memories when they were younger through the cam recorder. How happy they were. They run away from death, wanting to spend more time with each other but at the end, they can't run away from death. It's bound to happen.

The pile of clothes reminds me of BTS "Spring Day". So this is a story about people coping with tragedy. (Whether accidents, illness, death, war, etc.) And when it happens in your life, how they're facing it together. They reminice. Then when they tossed the video tapes - I feel like they were deciding to enjoy their present moment together.... And in the end, that she only covered his non-blind eye at the end 😭. She cared for & was fully thinking of HIM at the end. (Like she didn't do the typical thing to instinctually cover both eyes. Because she was attuned to him. And him her, to grip her hand.)

The Box represents society, it is chasing every individual who doesn't fit the standards of society. Here V is half blind, IU is deaf and mute. So they are running from oppression of society. The world is controled by these standards of perfection to the point that people in South Korea put masks on outside when they don't have make-up on or when they feel unsecure or they wear hats when their hair is just messy. The MV is a dysopian view of our society. While they are trying to hide in this abondonned place filled with the clothes of people who died previously because of this oppression, they find a camera that allows them to have an illusion of what their lives could be if they were "normal" by society's standards, it starts with their looks, they could see how they would have looked like, then what they would eat, then we can see through the lens of the camera they're using after V eats that cake, we see that they are immersed in this illusion to the point the room is filled with people, but as it is an illusion people don't have faces, they would just party and beautifully imagine that IU could sing and V could sing as well and she could listen to his voice, they could marry each other and just have fun and eat whatever they want because they wouldn't have to care about society or any other kind of oppression. However, as soon as they feel a little bit of confort and try to live their life, the Box (society) finds them again and push them to retreat again, they try to survive against it and try to fight it again as hard as they can, but they cannot beat a stronger system, they just give up, but at least they stayed together until the end. Even if they died, they loved each other deeply. It shows that even if society is oppressive, people can love each other and they can find their soulmate even if they are not "normal or perfect" to the eyes of some many others. The pile of clothes is like from BTS's MV Spring Day, these people died because of injustice, but they deserved love, so the pile of clothes can look very gloomy and sad, but as in Spring Day MV if you don't forget them you can seem them happy and free where they are right now...

Your reaction was my reaction. I could not stop crying after seeing this mv. The moment that touched me most was when IU protects Taehyung by covering his good eye just before they are about to die. This whole music video was so breathtaking I don’t think I have ever experienced the emotions I did watching anything else. I loved your interpretation of the white and black, being eachothers peace. The best mv I have seen to date and the song fits it so well. You are right, we did need this to remind us of the happiness we have now. 💜

I love the details of the clothes all over the place. not a lot of people made it as far as they did. it was their love for each other that kept them alive. the message of oppression towards disabled people and humanity in general is made so crystal clear. the cube wiping out imperfections but in turn creating a cold and empty world without love. Tae being blind in one eye with IU covering his good eye at the end so he doesn't have to see death, and IU being mute/deaf but singing at her wedding service to her love. (she also squeezed Tae's chest 3x which means 'I love you'). I love how she is the one leading him through the beginning and at the end he finally had the courage to protect her even if it took his life.
