[IU's Palette] A SHINee-ing Palette (With SHINee) Ep.5 - IU REACTION  

Onew and IU have NOT collabed yet, but now that Onew is out of SM as a soloist, who knows...

SHINee’s performance on this show is what officially made me a SHAWOL.

sadly ONEW & IU have not yet done a collab - but I still hope they will! Now that he is not with SM anymore as a solo-ist a lot more things seem possible ☺ But little fun fact: ONEW performed at Tones & Music Festival in Seoul last weekend - with a band. And the bass player in his band was Kyung-Ah. She is also the bass player here on IU's Palette 🙂

Out of SHINee, the one that was a really close friend of IU was actually Jonghyun...

At 8:54 ONEW and IU mentioning both knowing Kim Eana. She's a lyricist who wrote/cowrote some VERY big IU songs including Good Day. ONEW's recent song 'O (circle)' was written by Kim Eana.

Would love for you to react to Onew’s solo work. He is an amazing vocalist. I think you would enjoy them. He has a very comforting voice. They say his voice has a healing effect. His last album won best K-pop album in the billboards.

If you pay attention to the lyrics of "Dear Name" you will see why this song is so meaningful to SHINee -- SHINee's version of the song is dedicated to Jonghyun. So, the "Dear Name" they are talking about is Jonghyun. Fun fact: IU's song "Gloomy Clock" -- one of her older songs -- was written by Jonghyun. Jonghyun and IU were really good friends and when she heard "Gloomy Clock" she asked him to give it to her. Jonghyun always said that after hearing IU sing "Gloomy Clock" he knew the song was meant for her, and in hindsight he thinks he might have subconsciously written the song with her in mind. Because IU and Jonghyun were so close, she knows the deep meaning "Dear Name's" lyrics have for all of them, so she was surprised that out of all of her songs, this was the one SHINee chose to sing -- that is why I think she was so still and quiet during their performance and didn't really look at them, because it was super emotional for all of them and she didn't want to cause herself or any of SHINee members to break down if they made eye contact. And just think, Minho is the main rapper of the group. How often do you see a rapper that can sing as well as him? And notice how Onew doesn't even have his in-ear monitors in, so he is only relying on his voice to make sure he hits the right notes -- he actually says it's easier for him to sing when not wearing them. If you haven't yet, you should also look up the lyrics for "Kind." It's all about the relationship SHINee has with their fans. They are saying thank you for always staying by my side and supporting and loving me for the past 13 years (Now 16 years). "For all those times I felt your support, we members have also tried to give you love and support right back." The relationship SHINee has with Shawols is one of mutual respect and love and the fans are part of their family. As the lyrics of the song say, "You've always been so Kind," which I interpret as a direct message to Shawols. This episode was during February 2021 at the peak of COVID, so that's why they weren't able to eat on the show and it's also why IU and SHINee sat so far apart. They had to adhere to social distancing rules in order to be able to film the show.

I love that version of Sherlock. He gave me goosebumps... And SHINee made me cry with that performance. My favorite SHINee performer is TAEMIN, without a doubt. She doesn't have bad songs. He is only a feeling, a presence, a style... However, Onew has a privileged, angelic voice, he sings with great sweetness and feeling. He just launched his career as a solo artist, independently of SM Entertainment.

It's odd to say, but Onew in recent years has really just begun as a soloist. His 'DICE' album and 'Circle' album are so good and so totally different from each other it's amazing. As a matter of fact billboard named Circle best KPop album of 2023.

Taemin is my bias, not only in SHINee but in the whole of Kpop. He's actually my #1 artist in the world. And SHINee is the one and only group that I completely adore, the best Kpop group, imho. I love their music so much that it's hard to choose a favorite song. So, I'll give you three - Days and Years, Kimi Ga Iru Sekai, Colors of the Season.

At 28:56 she was talking about SHINee's comeback 3 years previous to this, not her own, so it would be referencing The Story Of Light era, which was the last before OnMinKey enlisted, and included the MVs and promotions for Good Evening, I Want You, Our Page and Countless which were all released within 4 months of each other back in 2018! It's so heartwarming to see these 08 debuts thriving and supporting each other all the while

What's interesting is that Onew came back from his health hiatus with significantly powered up vocals (it's been the talk of the town since he's performing on a singing program right now), and the others have improved as well. I'd love to hear their 2024 version of Dear Name - I think it'd be even better.

The one SHINee member she truly was close to was Jonghyun, they showed each other their songs (when he showed her Gloomy Clock she asked him for it, so she actually released it - I think Jjong has bg vocals on it, tho) ^^

The IU comeback was for the studio album of Lilac. With songs like Lilac, Coin, Celebrity, My Sea. It came out a month after this video was released. Still her last full length album to date.

Jonghyun was very close to IU. He wrote a couple of songs for her and she talked about him at her concerts.

The show is aptly named Palette because it paints so many colours & vibes of the guests & IU that you don't find if mc by any other host.

If you haven't watched shinee on mmtg with jae has yet you should give it a go especially their reaction to Taemins OPEN HERE on his pants he wore during a live performance. Their reaction is priceless.

If you've checked out their water and came fights. Check out their times when they rip the pants even during live performances. There was even a time when Minho made fun of the others for it only to rip his own life in stage. It's hilarious as hell.
