Iu is the mother, the actress (Tang wei) is the daughter. The MV is about complicated mother-daughter relationships.

Tang Wei (the actress in the MV) is Chinese and she was in Decision to Leave, an amazing movie by Park Chan Wook (one of the best Korean movie directors - he is famous for Oldboy for example, and a bunch of awesome movies).

Aside from you not noticing Hyein was singing during the 2nd verse and chorus (understandable and a great compliment to our Maknae), this is actually a great review! I love live instruments being used in music, it just has that elusive soul we look for in music! Also, fun fact. most people believe that what lead IU to collaborate with Hyein was when NewJeans were guests to the show IU's Palette and IU did not hide her awe when she heard Hyein sing Get Up. I suggest for you to watch it. :)

This is my fave song on the album as well. It’s so badass vibes and super classy

I was sure you would like this song. I just realized you could listen to her version of Love Me Again. When she had Tae (V) on her show, Palette, she sang Love Me Again and it exists as a separate clip on her channel. She also sang one of her songs along Tae which is awesome, but that is only in the long episode, not as a short clip. I don't think I understood the message more than mother-daughter relationship, but as far as I know the actress in the MV is just and actress and someone else is singing.

Really enjoy your reactions. I’ve never come across anyone like IU. Be prepared to lose yourself a bit if you dive further into IU…

I am in love with this song

I’m with you. My fav song on the album with the fewest views… but she has done this a long time, and put a bunch of songs out that were very good that I think she knew would not be a hit… She did that with her last album”Pieces” of her own favorite songs that were unpublished… but didn’t really promote it. Shes an artist but was lucky enough to win her artistic freedom at 19 or 20. She’s won awards for composing, lyricwriting and acting, and she’s a producer to boot. Frickin amazing person.

Thank you for introducing me to this MV. I probably wouldn't have watched it on my own. Now I have to go study it and find everything I missed. Your interpretation, as far as it went, sounded plausible to me. There may be a consensus meaning that fans settle on, or even an explanation from IU herself, but the great thing about art is that it means whatever you decide it means to you. ❤

And this is why this one is my favorite song from her EP. It is just so smooth and good and their voices blend so so well together. I know I'm biased as I love the lay back groovy songs but this one is awesome. Shh and Love wins all are my top 2 songs from the EP. I am also here to open a petition for you to check IU and Taehyung singing on her show Palette. They sang together one of her songs (Ending scene) and she sang Love me Again (with a different arrangement) and I KNOW you will love them together.

The only thing I can really add here that hasn't been mentioned already, I don't know if you noticed in the beginning and the end, there's an awning that says "Mobius Strip" which is very important to the story line. If you don't know, it's sort of an infinite loop, which the video compares a mother/daughter relationship to. With every generation, it seems like the endless cycle of the pain and love of the relationship. I believe the (F) is for friends and (L) is for love. And the song it's saying it's not either one of those. It's something else much deeper. Also Hyein's part starts at 6:20 (of this video). You can tell cause the music changes and Hyein's voice is much more of a smooth tone than IU's.

Bcs this complex "love" between mother and daughter is a repeated cycle inter - generation :') the actress is Tang Wei, she only acts and not singing in here... She's a very well known movie actress from China IU met her several times in 2022 in movie festivals (Cannes for example) in short, that squad is legendary and actually almost impossible to be assembled

I was laughing the whole time because I don't think you realised when IU stopped singing and Hyein from NewJeans started singing. Then you went on to describe a "second singer" even though that was the third singer. I guess that's an incredible compliment to Hyein if you thought she sang the same as IU. I think she sings so incredibly but I'm super familiar with Hyein's singing from my obsession with NewJeans so I recognise her easily. But we were all there at the start not even being able to tell the 5 NewJeans girls voices apart. Anyway enough about NewJeans lol. Also yeah the main featured actress doesn't have a singing roll in this song, only acting in the MV. I barely understood what happened in the MV tbh so I'm looking forward to seeing the comments explain it. You can already tell the emotional strength from the acting I need to see some movies the main featured actress is in.

This mv has a link to the NewJeans mv 'Cool With You'. That video featured Chinese actor Tony Leung. This actress is Tang Wei who had starred opposite him in the historical erotic thriller 'Lust, Caution'. In this video IU is a streetwalker picked up by a woman because she resembled her mother. That's really dark.

Tang wei wrote Iu the letter after filming the MV, hope this can make you understand the storyline Tang wei ‘s letter [ Ji-eun, do you know? That there were two touching moments I felt while filming, and I wanted to share it with you~ When the director was explaining the script to me and giving directions on the set, she mentioned that there’s line in the lyrics written by IU which says “her eyes are just like her mother’s.” The moment I let that (the lyrics) sink in, somewhere inside me was astonished. Jieun, this was something I’ve never thought about. Like most mothers including myself, we’d always try to see if our child shares the same eyes (features) as us the moment we gave birth to them. But, I’ve never given a thought about whether my eyes are like my mother’s (as a daughter myself). And at that moment, I just wanted to be face-to-face, cheek-to-cheek with my mom, and take a close look at her eyes next to mine, or take a photo so I can look carefully at it. It’s New Year’s Eve today, and I’ll be seeing my mom in a bit, so I’ll definitely do it. Another thing, though I knew early on that you’d be playing as my mother in music video, but it was still hard for me to imagine (how this would eventually play out)! And on the day of filming, I walked into the set and saw you. You were just sitting still on that wooden floor, quietly with the same posture always, and never moved. I thought to myself that, ‘she was probably a cheerful, intelligent and innocent kid with a slender figure and smooth skin (like you) too.’ My mother used to be an opera actress when she was young. But in my mind, the image of my young mom was somehow always incomplete and muddled based on her old photos and description of her from my father occasionally. In the story my father told, my young mother was a Prima Donna who shone on the Chinese opera stage, and a heroine who received a standing ovation. Just like Jieun, who was sitting before my eyes at that time. I felt a lump in my throat the moment this crossed my mind. Jieun, thank you for creating such beautiful memories for me. Today is New Year’s Eve, and although i’m far away in Beijing from Jieun, I wish you happiness and good health.
