Holssi and Shopper are connected. In Holssi IU is addressing the issue of why she is taking a different path which has much greater risk and will not at all be easy. But she is leaving her comfortable, familiar and safe places to spread her wings and to see just how close to the sun she can fly. And she states she will win. In Shopper she is sending the message that dreaming big outrageous dreams is ok. While some may say it greedy to want to grab for the brass ring, in this context it is ok to be greedy. To borrow a US Marine slogan "Be all you can be." And don't let anyone tell you that you can't achieve the next thing. Like she was told by some family members that she would never become a singer, so stop dreaming about it and starting doing the practical, focus on her school work. The rightful owners of the magical gifts are those who dared to dream of them and pursue the dream. The two videos are physically connected in a couple of ways. First Shopper when IU is outside the theater we see Dandylion seeds floating around her. Remember the dancers in Holssi and the 1 dancer dressed in blue. That respsents several things, 1 IU the soloist taking a different road. And this color reappears in Shopper in Ian's suit and color of his car, tying that same message to him and the different path he is taking. And the "gonna win" lyric of Holssi turns into "Victory" in Shopper. Both are shot in the States, where IU is planning on establishing herself, I don't know if everyone appreciates how big a deal this is. No Korean born and raised soloist, who wasn't apart of a group that toured the US has ever successfully accomplished what IU is setting out to do. Shopper easter eggs Snowglobe - at the start of the MV it has at least 2 figures 1 is a girl standing and another appears to be a boy. They are both not present in the ending scene where IU is holding out the globe. Is this another metaphor of her and in this case includes Ian leaving the safety of the known, familiar and comfortable and dreaming big? Dandylion Seeds When IU is standing outside the theater there are Dandylion seeds floating around. After that the Dandylion seeds are replaced by confetti of various shapes and at the roadside stand Butterflies. Do the Butterflies represent the metamorphosis of both IU and Ian? The Jellyfish we first see on the map and the golden bat appears above it telling IU that the Golden bat is needed for the Jellyfish. But why a jellyfish and why is she breaking open the jellyfish piñata? Jellyfish float on the ocean currents like Dandylion seeds floating on the wind currents. Jellyfish glow from within and their beauty is from within and they pack a sting if you mess with them. Certainly metaphors that can apply to IU but doesn't explain why she is breaking it.
