) When I watched this it was very strange. ) Greeeting from Russia. When yankee made this movie, were a lot of discussions about amateur sport. All said that government and state should not help amateur athletes. And bad soviet (KGB, gulag) cheated good USA. Very funny now )))
@@mariacarvalho4613 yes, I used to have a wood burning stove and loved splitting firewood. But it is no eplacement for a training camp lmfao. Drago was out sparring and everything while Rocky was doing man vs wild. It works great as contrast in the film but in real life it wouldn't have been a particularly effective training camp.
@@jonbradley4044 Yeah, you're right. in this case, It works better for Drago since they're building him like a super human, hence the most advanced tech for training in combat sports.
I laugh at how the screens show nothing: no sys/dys heart rates and the lines aren't even moving! And some of the flashing lights don't show any purpose at all!
@@Myreactionwhen_80085 When Rocky beats Drago he makes a speech declaring everyone can change,as the previously hostile russian crowd cheers for him, including the high chancellor who had a consistently stern, emotionless aura to him beforehand.
the funny part about this scene is that at the time this was pretty realistic. over the top but realistic. the soviet tried applying science to everything much faster than americans. a boxer like Rocky is still common to find today although the majority of professionals now use all kinds of computer technology to give them an edge during training.
but it would be more realistic in early 70s, and more about proper training regime/diet/discipline than actual science... I recall one of the closest real events to this was Canada hockey team of NHL pros first meeting ''amateur'' USSR players and losing the first game badly. It was called Summit Series 72... Canadians were drinking and smoking cigars in their free time and having fun (pretty much treating first game like Apollo fight vs Drago) while Soviets had proper diet and training camp most of the year and proper coaching. At the end Canada won the series with 4 wins vs 3 Soviet ones, but it was very close and they were actually behind the Soviets and pretty much only at the end, like here, outclassed the opposition
Hmm interesting tell me more.. I mean, i was born near Moskau in Witschuga. In the late 70s. I can't remember everything was science back than. So please tell me more
@@skylightikab443 I was saying that professional boxers in Russia back then were using science as much as possible compared to American professional boxers. A lot of this was because the Soviet leaders wanted to dominate sports and so they tried to use any research they could to make them better. They succeeded in a lot of ways and failed in others. All in all they made a lot of contribution to modern day physical training science.
@@MrTAggarwal again stereotypes about Russians, bro this is a common hairstyle, Russians, like everyone else, wear different hairstyles, in the army basically everyone has short haircuts
A swedish chemical engineer who was a brilliant student will forever known for his role as one of the most iconic Hollywood movie character. This is why I admire dolph so much
@@noirekuroraigami2270 Most people have never seen Star Wars or read a superman comic, they’re still a cultural touchstone in most western civilisations & popular culture & recognised around the planet. Like what’s your fucking point. Why don’t you stop hating and do some running you fat sh#t. A person like Dolph has accomplished more in his 5 decades than you would in 10 life times you absolute goober.
Yep everytime I listen to this it gives motivation, I could be on my death bed about to die, then this comes on and somehow I manage to jump up and start running up mountains through the snow...(then I wake up and realise it was all a dream) 😂😂😂
True but I see Clubber Lang as Rocky’s opposite instead of just the villain. He was hungry and eager to prove himself against the best, doing whatever he needed to do to get the fight Rocky’s management was trying to avoid. When Clubber wins, he gives Rocky a rematch right away. Rocky wins after rediscovering himself and proving to himself he was a real champion. This movie was about Rocky dealing with himself more than Rocky dealing with Lang.
According to Dolph he fought his dad....a lot. Probably needed all the brains & brawn to survive on a daily basis but then there are those who say kids today are too soft. smh.
Even though the whole montage scene cuts back and forth between them. I feel like "Training montage" is Drago's training theme while "hearts on fire" is Rocky's
Drago looks like an ideal Aryan athlete in propaganda poster under Hitler regime. His face is very typical for Germanic race, and far from Slavic or Russian typical one.
Holy sht those are some advanced machines Drago was using in the movie, even by todays standards. The director must've done some research. Can't believe he was using a rotator cuff machine at 0:45 lol never seen that
That machine stabilizes the shoulders therefore allowing you to exert more force without possible injury. He did his research indeed. Some rotator cuff work isnt usually shown during these types of montages since it isnt a huge crowd muscle/exercise.
@@cool78666 Even without his steroids his punching power was 1850 PSI which is higher than Mike Tyson's punching power. Even in real life he put the actor who played Rocky in the hospital with one serious punch into his chest.
@@JangoBladerIt was just as hyped in the '80s. Several Nuclear War films were made during the decade, and then you had Reagan and Star Wars program. That's why the early '90s was such a release of tension.
When the Nietzsche talked about the ‘Übermensch’ “The superior man” he meant Drago. Most people will never be educated enough to understand how insanely elite and impressive Dolph’s physique was in this movie, dude is made from granite, excellent X frame, shredded body fat, amazing proportions, 6’5”. Jawline that could crack an anvil, dude won the genetic lottery. Not surprised he was a model in his 20s.
@@phalanx8437 The way Stallone shot & had Lundgren lit gave this movie definite homoerotic undertones. Even Brigitte Nielsen's shots doesn't compare. Paulie balances it out. lol
He accidentally injured Sly Stallone during a scene and neither even knew it until Stallone had to run to the hospital. Stallone said in an interview his insurance almost thought he was bluffing until he shouted at his agent "Look at the man! That's a tank!" They relented and covered him for the injury.
In the final overhead strict press drago does with the barbell he’s lifting between 405-440lbs which for the time frame he was training in the Rocky universe would’ve made that a world record press & he’s competing in that category with men MUCH HEAVIER than himself. No he wasn’t even close to 261 like stated in the movie. That’s a good perspective on how strong Drago is supposed to be, lifting 20-30lbs more than the world record when he’s 100-150lbs lighter, when not even weight training strictly and being sub 9% body fat. So basically superhuman, even for being on gear. Strict pressing 4.5 plates overhead is absolutely elite even for today’s standards.
@@phalanx8437 yup,as you said most strongmen are over 300-400 lbs pressing that kind of weight, him pressing that weight at 265 lbs would be insane even by modern day standards.
@@Sikorsky1111 Certainly. The most impressive part is the strictness of it, most strong men use some leg drive or bending of their backs to leverage the weight. But the way it's shown in the movie is downright superhuman. For someone of his weight, at his bodyfat to hoist up 4.5 plates with pure arm and delt power, well yes, someone THAT strong could probably punch at 2000psi.
Without a doubt, this is the best Rocky movie and Drago is a machine, but, only in Disney a guy carrying sticks and stones up in a mountain (Rocky), beat one who is a beast and who trains with so much technology and taking care of every single detail!!! Definitely ridiculous!
@@22blackabdu35 Rocky was training just as hard, plus he was a bit older and had more boxing experience, which is why I think it mostly comes down to technique in the ring more than anything else.
Ivan was the reason why I started my training as a kid lifting sofas an bed an climbing trees an monkey bars at 10 year old,by 13 had a 6 pack an was doing 500 pushup, ,this was 1988
They are. When this movie was released in theaters this would've all been considered high tech, now you can buy things similar to this less than the price of a used car.
The coolest chemical engineer ever! Actually it's kind of funny and ironic that he played the part of an athlete using steroids while he could possibly help develop them in real life
Si el combate hubiera sido real, drago lo mataría. Es más, Stallone cuenta que cuando se filmaba las escenas de la pelea, el "ruso" le dio tal golpe En el pecho que casi, literalmente lo mata al pobre de Rocky

Ivan Drago is a steroid and other drug induced fake: “Drago is seen receiving intramuscular injections in the movie, implied to be anabolic steroids, though the actual nature of the injected solution is never explicitly stated; instead, Ludmilla, his wife, states as a joke that Drago is like Popeye and eats spinach every day.”
