The part where you address credentialization made me think about how somehow I'm qualified to teach future high school history teachers but not qualified to teach high school. Another thing that came to mind while listening to the discussion was Nicholas Carr's "Glass Cage." Part of the problem with our current education medium is the loads of wisdom/ways of knowing being lost. I look forward to listening to part II!

I got to know about Ivan Illich through John Holt’s ‘Instead of Education’. Deschooling society is a little difficult text to follow which is why I came here for reference. I held ‘Education’ as a venerable indispensable value until I meditated upon John Holt’s aforesaid essay. Illich corroborates that further by establishing how the institutionalisation of values defeats its very purpose, how the same becomes a resistance to itself. Although I find Holt more appealing in this because he defies ‘Education’ in its entirety. His belief rests on a more holistic ‘learning by doing’. Illich, on the other hand, believes in education. He doesn’t believe in its schooled mode. I enjoyed listening to your exchange of ideas. Could you please elaborate on how childhood is an idea of the bourgeoisie? Just one little suggestion and I am sorry if that hurts but I guess Andrew needed to listen a bit more. I found the speaking a little too much and there are times, when his pitch rises a little too high. That was kind of distracting.

It's more my fault. We released this when my mixing was not done properly and so you get those uneven spikes. Sorry about that :/
